One night in SF

Would love to get some recommendations from this board! We will be staying near the Embarcadaro but will have a car so willing to go anywhere within the city. I have searched the board but a lot of the popular places seem like they would be higher than the $125. Thanks!

What restaurant would you recommend for a great meal that is California or New American cuisine? We would like to keep it under $125/pp with wine. Something similar to Redd in Yountville, possibly? We are very familiar with Napa Valley restaurants, not so much with SF ones.

Alinea wine pairings

Willyum, thank you so much for the great, detailed information! This is so helpful and I am so appreciative! We have tickets for Nov 22 and can't wait! Glad this visit was a favorite for your birthday! Thanks again!!

Alinea wine pairings

Do you both like lots of different wines? I had heard they have lots of obscure wines that some people didn't really like all that well. We love wine, but tend to like reds and some dry whites, so just didn't know if all the different varietals would be wasted on us. Another person had complained that they had really inexpensive wines in their lower level pairing. Did you do the reserve pairing? Have a great time this Friday, Happy Birthday! We are going for my birthday in 3 weeks!

Alinea wine pairings

We have tickets in a few weeks, so excited! This is a MAJOR splurge for us and wanted to see what the current opinions are about the wine pairings. I have read many negatives about them in the past but haven't seen anything too current. We tend to like red wines rather than whites and thought about just getting a bottle, but don't want to ruin the experience if the wine pairings really make it. Also have heard some couples split one pairing. Thanks for any advice!!

downtown restaurant

Looking for a special occasion restaurant that is within walking distance or short cab ride from the Marriott Marquis if possible. Not familiar at all with Atlanta. Will be there for a convention without a car and will be celebrating my husbands birthday. Loves steak, but not a must. Thanks!

Bluestem in KC

Haha, not trying to get hammered. Some of our friends mentioned they didn't want to pay $50 for 7 tiny sips. Just wanted an idea what it was like, as i mentioned someone had said they were stingy pours, didn't know exactly what that meant.
Thanks for the reply.

Bluestem in KC

We are planning to eat at Bluestem for the first time next week when visiting KC. Was wondering about the wine pairings versus ordering bottles. I have heard they are very stingy with their pours. Any advice? Our group tends to like red wine but are open to trying some whites, do they work around specific preferences or is it a set pairing?

dinner with a view

I'm looking for a suggestion for a Portland downtown restaurant that would have great food, romantic atmosphere and a wonderful view. We will only have one dinner there as our trip will be to the wine country. Thanks.

downtown LA restaurants

Will be in LA for USC parent's weekend, would like recommendations for california fresh food, fun, hopefully not too expensive places to take our son. Coming from the midwest. Love seafood, but Water Grill is probably outside our budget.

Full pitcher of ice water dumped on me, do you think this high end restaurant responded correctly?

Thank you. I was a little suprised at the number of responses. And you're right, it can feel personal.

Yes, I was cold. Most of the water went on my shoulder, over my front and soaked my pants/legs/feet/shoes.The waitress brought me a shawl that I wore. They brought the comp dessert after we were finished eating our entrees. We didn't order it. If we had been in our hometown, I would have left and tried again another night. We had driven 4 hours from home and were staying in a hotel that night so we made the best of it. I was also shocked and a little embarrassed and didn't want to walk out.

The wine and dessert cost was $55. I guess I thought being soaked with ice water was a pretty big deal. The food was great, but it was not a completely enjoyable evening being wet and cold. We had traveled out of town for the weekend and a special meal.

The bill was for both my husband and me. I thought they would comp my portion of the bill.

My husband and I were dining in an expensive steak chain restaurant last night. We were seated in a booth. The woman filling water glasses set the pitcher behind me on top of the wooden booth ledge. She knocked it over and it came full force over my left side. My pants were soaked, hair got a little wet, mascara even ran. The rest of the water ended up soaking my husbands legs and shoes under the table. Everyone was very apologetic and came running with towels, etc. After toweling off we were moved to another booth, where i sat on a towel and we had to have towels under our feet as our shoes were wet. We are not demanding people and really felt badly for the woman and told the manager when he came over to apologize. He said "what a pleasure to deal with gracious, forgiving people such as you. Most people aren't like that". At the end of the evening when our check came we were comped for our wine and a dessert. Our bill was $150. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before, so I'm not aware of the standard procedure, but I really thought at least my meal and wine would be comped. What should they have done?
