I know what Cook's declare but I can taste the fake vanilla in a hearbeat and I am not the Princess feeling the pea under the mattresses. Having said that, it does I agree, depend on what is cooked or baked. If the vanilla is hidden under chocolate or other bold flavors quality artificial vanilla is probably OK. In a custard or eggnog or any other strictly vanilla based recipie use the real thing.. cautions Choconutty.

After all these years, still love Ina. Did I miss comments about Ann Burrell and Sunny Anderson? Really like those two and their recipies are easy to follow. Will not watch anyone who uses the term Tablescape. Also love the Saturday line up on our local PBS stations. Lida in America or her kitchen, Chow America, Cook's Kitchen and a PA fav. the chef from Penn State. Many cooking mistakes corrected after listening to their programs. Know these are not Food Network but still very important to those of us who love to cook.
Foods that should be commercially available, but are not?
Not sure where you live LonenM but, the northeast esp. PA has wonderful small Amish owned markets that have so many specialty items and spices. They sell the lucky charms marshmallows by the bag. Hilltop Acres Farm Market near Manheim PA is my stop when in the Lancaster Area.
I Love my Weber grill - Cornell chicken
Not seeing your Cornell chicken piece earlier tonight, I added the recipe to White Barbeque discussion. Get those coals white and add more when needed. I cannot picture cooking boneless. Chicken must sit overnight in the marinade. Cook early and place in foil in a cooler or container. I can hear the kitchen police scream as I write this. Churches, Kiwanis whatever, start cooking very early in the day. By noon, it is cooked and they serve not from the grill, but from the store in the cooler, garbage can whatever. It sits and further develops the flavor. I take NO responsibility for any illness incurred. But then it is not supposed to sit many hours. Maybe four or five while the pic a nic goes on.
Color of dinnerware - turn on / turn off / don't care
Do any of you older Chowhounds remember eating on Fiestaware? Sister in law had a set of mixed colors including a black. Her husband often worked late; they had four children and one car. If he was to be so late she had to feed the children before he came home Bill (not his real name) always knew the quality of her day when the warmed over supper was served on the black pieces. When all four had the chickenpox and he complained about the meal she told him he was lucky she had not served him cold shoulder and hot tongue.
Fish "Juice" on car floor
My vehicle smells like dead meat. Some fish juice leaked out of the bag into the carpet. Does anyone have an idea or two on how to correct this mess? I washed with several products but obviously I need something stronger or, should this be done professionally? and what kind of a business? or, should I call the Car Guys on NPR?
candy apples
Each fall I try to make county fair candy apples. I can do caramel but the red hard candy coating escapes me. help!
Food gifts and sympathy
Whatever you bring from a flower to warm socks, your gift tells the person you care. Call and tell the person you are bringing a gift of food and ask if there are restrictions. Taylor the size of your gift to the household. An appetite damaged by illness might look at a big piece of anything and be put off. A small portion might tempt. You can always take more at a later date. Take the gift in a disposable package. Do not expect a thank you note. Limit your stay even if the conversation seems to be flowing; ten minutes tops. Never mention how busy you are. Do not thrust your ability to be up and about into the face of someone who is confined. Tell them why you came; that you admire them, that their life touched yours in some way. When you are feeling useless, it helps to be reminded that your life has worth.
Baking Powder
Aluminum or not? What is the reason for using baking powder with aluminum? I have some impression that aside from health issues the aluminum adds to some cookies and detracts from others. Perhaps a crispness issue?
Favorite Food Network Chef
Not a chef but for sheer relaxation, I love Ace of Cakes. I always enjoyed and learned from the young man who cooked from his home and had a pantry to die for. Name? From Canada, a chef who owned an organic farm, Manic Organic? Please Food Network, no more of your Next Food Network Star shows. The last one especially was without merit.
