Grand Electric
many studies on this topic....search them out if you want a deeper understanding on the psychology of music (liking or disliking a place, turning shoppers from browsers to buyers, turning tables in restaurants, higher consumption in bars....)
the short answer is that faster music speeds up consumption and flips tables. loud music creates loud talk which enhance the vibe of the place being 'happening' or an 'it' spot.
but these might be split off to the 'not about food' board
Grand Electric
the emperor has not clothes ( or maybe just a skimpy pair of undies)...
the 1.5 hour wait at opening is ridiculous, the line up competes with the soup kitchen...the food is okay, but the tuna ceviche gave me stomach cramps. really, i don't get the fuss.
La Societe review - Lovely upscale French Bistro/Brasserie
you can make a reservation through opentable rather than using the phone.
food here is completely meh, even the reviewer didn't like her pasta...steak is steak and hard to screw up...sounds like they might be competition for ravi soups if anything.
i thought the service was aloof, incompetent, uncaring, uninformed, uninspired...
it is a great looking room, filled with beautiful people and a great courtyard patio, but the rest...who cares...
Brunch Suggestions To Impress New York Guests
i agree jxp, not on my go to places in my hood.
Yukon at 1592 Queen West
i know who you speak of, it took a good 4 years for him to warm up to us, but he is ok with us now...
brunch is always solid as is most of the rest of the menu-great specials and all very reasonably priced...just check the kitchen and who is cooking-the man that cooks there is not the best...
amending my previous post i should say the beastie (not beasty) boys...
Braised Short Ribs?
it reminds me one of my best comfort food meals, the horseradish mashed potatoes sealed the deal for me...
Yukon at 1592 Queen West
sadly we won't be back. after mca passed they had a chalkboard out front saying come in and do a shot in memory of mca and on the other side they had that you have fight for your right to party. well long story short, they had no mca shot, they didn't know who the beasty boys were and were definately not playing them. i hate to say that they might be the latest queen west west posers....give me my mezzrows for drinks...
Roncesvalles area
we were there the previous sunday night, we also walked in and offered that last table. we chose to eat at the bar instead. great service and great food. we will be back to the westerly...
Roncesvalles area
de la mer is the fish store and it is a 2nd location, 1st location is on bayview....this has been needed in the hood for a long time and i look forward to it.
Need a good Mothers day dinner in Edmonton
i think that the point is to NOT make multiple threads on the same topic
$10-$15 dinner around Yonge and Bloor
have you found anything you actually like in the area? how about the pilot? spotted dick?
Need help with Yorkville Dinner Recommendation
not for food, but for the patio action...
best breakfast joint in Toronto?
yes to barque-huge portions, great service
no to mildred's temple kitchen-mostly due to poor staff-starting from texting hostesses
O & B Cafe on Front Street - if I choose to eat here, will it be as disappointing as Canteen in Bell Lightbox?
the terrine, pate, rillette, ploughman's lunch and trout are all hits in our books. We also enjoy the fish pie, chicken pot pie, black cod and liver and onions....
i never have a restaurant burger as I just never enjoy them out for some reason....
upscale continental/French/Italian dinner, not too loud, within a 15 minute walk of Massey Hall and open Mondays...
Adega on Elm?
Need help with Yorkville Dinner Recommendation
Always skip One unless for patio drinks....
Pangaea is the best bet in the hood, but out of your price range.
in no particular order:
Wish
L'unita
Jacques Bistro Du Parc
Carens Wine & Cheese Bar
Hemingways (patio is a happening place)
Yamato (I like it but it gets mixed reviews here)
just to name a few....
Yukon at 1592 Queen West
queen west is expanding again...
polish sports dive bar jasmine is gone and yukon seemed to have opened yesterday....
i was going to stop by today but changes in my work demands have sidelined that. i can't seem to find any online info about the place.
does anyone know anything about it?
Analysis Paralysis - Help me choose a restaurant: Nota Bene, Acadia, Campagnolo, Frank's Kitchen? Other?
tell more about chantecler....haven't seen many user reviews...

Back in Toronto -- Help me prioritize the new restos and eateries!
no on P&L and Keriwa...but next to Keriwa is a place I have just fallen in love with....Enoteca Maialino....
Theee best crispy beef in the GTA
as does the patty melt....the pilot is brilliant at 70's and 80's....
Saturday night dinner with the girls (30's) any recommendations in King West area?
call them...they appear to have removed 6pm and later timeslots from the online booking feature (very easy to do). this allows them to manage their table movement much better (in their eyes) for the peak demand periods...it is very common
