cole slaw
I was just thinking about where I could buy some good coleslaw from in this city. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!
Scaramouche - Lobsterliscious
Oh man I wish I had known about this before ... Scaramouche is def one of my fav TO restaurants.
Side question: I have heard that they sell their Coconut Cream Pies there? How would one go about ordering some? Could I just pop by the restaurant and buy a few or would I need to pre-order them?
Fat Bastard Burrito Co.
Fat Bastard is def much better then Burrito Boyz which imo sucks.
I did not know that they were opening up a location downtown. I know that they are opening up a spot at Dixie + Burnamthorpe as well.
Hopefully the added locations won't take away from the quality of the food.
Amsterdam help for early January ... ?
Thank you for the suggestions everyone it is greatly appreciated : )
A week in Berlin for NYE ...
Thanks again Lingua will def check it out @ least once if not twice.
And yea hopefully the weather isn't too bad, though we are coming from Canada so i'm sure it won't be too bad (by our standards anyways) ; )
A week in Berlin for NYE ...
Thank you again linguafood you rock. I will take a look at your suggestions ...
With regards to the Xmas market @ Gendarmenmarkt is that only open on Xmas? We arrive on the 30th of December and stay until the 5th of January.
I think we might still give Sage a go, given that it is actually one of the few places open on NYD (which I just noticed) and close to a venue we plan to go to at night on the 1st.
Amsterdam help for early January ... ?
Thanks for the suggestions linguafood it is very much appreciated. I will take a look at those spots. Also, I did not know that dutchgrub posts on here, a few of the spots on my list are on there from suggestions from his very helpful website.
Amsterdam help for early January ... ?
I will be in Amsterdam in early January for 4 nights and I was wondering if I could get some help in editing my list of places to eat ...
I have done a bit of research for potential Amsterdam eat-a-bilities ;) and I was wondering if the potential spots that I have picked are worth going to, or if should I avoid them. Also, if there is anything that I am missing from my list that must be added feel free to let me know ;)
We would like to try some Amsterdam / dutch specialties like french fries, pancakes, indonesian, dutch or any kind of quality contemporary / trendy food in a nice setting. From quick and cheap eats to mid range / not too crazily priced restos in a nice setting.
Here is what I have come up with so far:
Pancakes!
Vleminckx French Fries
Toasty! – Grilled Cheese Sandwich
De belhamel
Vinkeles
Hotel De Goudfazant
Lion Noir
Restaurant Blauw (Indonesian)
A week in Berlin for NYE ...
Hi, I will be travelling to Berlin and staying there for a week with my GF for NYE and the first week of January. We will be staying @ The Hilton across from Gendarmenmarkt. Neither of us have ever been to Berlin before so we are both n00bs to Berlin.
We are looking to try diff kinds of foods, from quick and cheap grab and go type spots to more casual places, to more mid ranged priced kinds of places.
We would like to try a bit of everything from some traditional German food, curry-wurst & schnitzels, to Turkish food, to burgers and pizza, Asian inspired food, breakfast spots. Whatever, as long as it's good and quality. Are there any trendy types of food in Berlin or places to go too? Any must have meals or drinks specific to Berlin?
I went through a few threads on here and through some other searching I have found these potential spots for potential eat-a-bilities ;)
Sage
Lutter & Wegner
Renger - Patzsch
Neubau
Noi Quattro
Rutz Weinbar
The Bird
Biers
Mercan
Nu
KaDeWe food hall (any spots in particular that would be good here?)
Hasir
How does my list of options look so far? Is there anything that I should perhaps avoid off of my list? And conversely, is there anything I should add to the list based on where I am located?
One other thing, can we expect that mostly everything will be closed on New Years day? What about the rest of the first week of January?
Hrvatibar
I haven't been to Hrvatibar yet, I have been meaning to check it out though since I heard about it. I do know a few people that have gone though and they have been quite happy with the food.
In terms of cevapi though i'm not the biggest fan of Royal Meats and am more partial to the cevapi @ Mrakovic's in Etobicoke.

I'll see how Hrvatibar stacks up to the both of them in a couple of weeks ; )
Labour Day Weekend Help
I know I should have listened to you ... the only thing is that I am going with a group of half dozen or so people so getting the ok on things and getting everyone co-ordinated can take a while ;)
re: getting to Bayless' spots early, our plane comes into O'hare @ 11:00am so I figure by the time we get our luggage, check into the hotel etc the earliest we could go anywhere would be for 1:00 pm. But I guess it's worth giving frontera a shot. I did not know you could order off the Topo menu there. Interesting and thanks for the info, we might give that a shot.
Bongo Room & Toast both look pretty good ... i'm def interested in those 2 spots. Thanks again : )

Labour Day Weekend Help
Looks like I missed the boat on lunch @ Topolobampo, I called them today and they look to be all filled up for the Friday on which we arrive. I guess we will try Xoco for a quick bite instead I suppose for our Mexican fix.
: (
For now it looks like we are going to try Blackbird on the Saturday & Graham Elliot on Sunday. Maybe Mercat on Monday as it seems like that is one of the few places that will be open on Monday (of the places that I called).
We plan on going to Bucktown for some shopping on either Saturday or Sunday. Is there anything worth going to in that area for a nice lunch or brunch?

Good luck to these guys ... I have lived in the area for close to 30 years and have yet to see a successful long standing operation in the spot. It seems to be cursed :p
Best burrito in the city...
fat bastard burrito on queensway by kipling is quality.
burrito boys which tried to run them out of business (by opening up) directly across the street is shit. same goes for all of the burrito boys locations really. ever since they started to expand the quality has gone down mightily. Ingredients & sauces are no longer fresh and they are pretty much only relying on their old name at this point.
Labour Day Weekend Help
Thank you for the help & suggestions. It is very appreciated ...
Labour Day Weekend Help
I am coming back to the Windy City from Toronto for Labour Day weekend. I have not been to Chicago in about 5-6 years so I am sure that a lot of things have changed. I will be up for the weekend for 4 nights with a bunch of Windy City n00bies and I would like to showcase some of the best that the city has to offer in terms of food. I have already done a fair bit of research and I have narrowed down the trip's best possible "eatabilities" ; ) to a few selections. If there is anything on here that I should avoid, please let me know. Conversely, if there is anything else that I should add feel free to suggest a spot or two or three ; ) We will also be staying at the Thompson so it would be nice to eat around there, but we can definitely travel for something that is worth it.
From quick, cheap and easy grab n go lunches to quality foodie spots starting at the lower end of the spectrum ; )
- First up, we have to do up some Deep Dish pizza and for that I gather that any of the following would suffice ... Uno, Due, Lou Malnati's.
- For Italian Beef Sandwiches / Chicago Hot Dog's ... with the following options of Al's Beef, Hot Doug's and Wieners Circle.
- XOCO for a quick Mexican lunch or how about Topolobampo for lunch?
Now I know about Alinea, but I am guessing that it might even be too late to get a reservation for a large group, especially for the long weekend? How about these other spots ...
- Blackbird looks very intriguing to me as does the Publican for Brunch or dinner.
- Mercat
- Everest (I hear the view is very nice, but I can't figure out the price-point for it by searching through the website)
- Graham Elliot ... myself and the GF are big Masterchef fans so this spot has really piqued our interest as well.
- Longman & Eagle ... for brunch perhaps.
- Nomi
- The Terrace (for a drink or two) + Sixteen @ Trump
Are there any other good breakfast spots that would go down well? Also, are there any other spots similar to the Terrace @ Trump, where we could have a drink and take in the sights of the Chicago skyline? Or somewhere where we could have a lunch / breakfast and take in the skyline? Looking for a place with a spectacular view of the city / skyline.
And in closing, because it is Labour Day weekend, will I have trouble finding things open on Monday? Are most resto's / shopping areas closed or do some places in the touristy areas still stay open on Labour Day Monday?

Must try places in Downtown Detroit for Memorial Day weekend?
I will be in Detroit for 4 days at the end of May staying at the Book Cadillac and I was wondering if there were any places that I should definitely make a point of trying out while I am there that are relatively close to where I will be staying?
It can be any kind of food from fast food (I have been told to try a Coney Island Dog) to gourmet sit down dinners. Just look for any possible suggestions.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!!
woody's burgers bar and grill in etobicoke ...
I have been quite impressed with my last few visits to this place so I thought i'd give them some love on here. It's turning into my fav Burger place in Etobicoke (kind of sick of Apache, i'm done with Magoo's, not overly impressed with GBC).
http://www.woodysburgers.com/index.html
It's at Brownsline + Lakeshore. The burgers are really tasty and they are made over a wood burning grill. Sweet potato fries are good too. Haven't tried a pulled pork sandwich yet.
I still have to try Organig Big Burger which is just up the street, I hear they make a good burger as well.

I'll be driving home to Toronto from London on Saturday late afternoon and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good quality spot for food somewhere along my way back to Toronto.
So far I have Langdon Hall in Cambridge on my list of possible spots to try ... I was wondering if there were any other good quality spots I should have on my list?
thanks.

Boylan's Diet Black Cherry
had one of these over the weekend and loved it. so I see quite a few stores carry it in the GTA. One question though ... can I buy 24's of these at said stores?
southern style bbq
