Anyone been to Chartucerie in Sierra Madre? I'm interested to find out what Chowhounders think. Thanks in advance.

Adam--Do you and your girlfriend prefer any types of food or have any that you don't like? Are you talking about cheap eats?
Tasty Chicken Sandwich at Wildflour Baking (Sierra Madre)
I picked up my second Herb Roasted Chicken Sandwich from Wildflour Baking Company in Sierra Madre. I wanted to make sure it was as delicious the second time...and it was! The first time I picked one up, I was very hungry so I thought that might have influenced my reaction. But that wasn't it.
The sandwich includes herb roasted chicken on country white bread with pesto mayo, basil and tomato. The baked in-house bread is very good with a nice crust. The pesto mayo and the basil give the sandwich a great flavor. It also comes with a cesar salad (romaine lettuce, parmesan cheese, freshly-baked croutons and cesar dressing). I love that they use romaine and not iceberg lettuce. The croutons are wonderful.
Last week, I picked up a roasted garlic loaf. It was a delicious addition to our homemade chicken, artichoke and mushroom dish. Today, I picked up an Herb de provence loaf which includes thyme and rosemary. I can't wait to try that one.
In the past, I've ordered their dessert platter, which includes cookies, lemon bars, nut bars and brownies. My friends and I were very impressed.
You can see their menu here. The prices have gone up slightly. http://www.sangabrielvalleymenus.com/wildflour.htm

Rock 'N Fish Review
I love Rock 'N Fish. I've been there a few times, but I only go for special occasions or if someone else is buying. It's a bit pricey to go on a regular basis. I've tried several of their fish dishes, chowder, salads, etc and have never been disappointed. I especially like their oak-grilled vegetables and creme brulee.
Thanks for posting a review!

What about Bistro 45? She was impressed when she went there for a friend's birthday. So impressed that she decided to have her wedding reception there for 60 in two weekends.

Friendly small-town service in SoCal.
I have had a similar experience at Il Tiramisu. The father and son owners are wonderful. The food is delicious. It is a hidden gem in So Cal.
I love Pie 'N Burger too. There is one waitress there who reminds me of my husband's grandmother. She has a fun, sassy personality.
saturday brunch for group of 8 around pasadena?
How about Red White & Bluezz in Old Pasadena? This past weekend was the first weekend that they offered Saturday and Sunday brunches with Jazz music. The prices are about $12-$17 for gourmet omelets and pancakes to around $28 for lobster and filet dishes. The brunch hours are 9am-2pm.
I'm not sure about parking for brunch, but they do have valet parking at dinnertime at the Stats parking lot across the street. It makes parking in Old Pasadena very easy.
My husband and I went to Red White & Bluezz for dinner and just loved it. The food, atmosphere and jazz were exceptional. I'm very excited about the weekend brunch. You can see my dinner review here:

Dog Friendly Restaurants/Outdoor Seating?
Sierra Madre is a picturesque small-town located at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. It is just east of Pasadena and is extremely dog friendly.
Dogs hang out at the restaurants with outdoor seating. Also, low dog-level drinking fountains are attached to all drinking fountains throughout downtown and at the base of the Mt Wilson hiking trail. (Another great place to take your pooch. "First water" has a nice shaded area to relax before heading back down the trail.) Some restaurants will put out water bowls if a drinking fountain is not nearby.
The two independently-owned coffee shops, Beantown and the recently-opened Steamers have free dog biscuits for your canine friend. Also, a fenced dog park can be found just east of downtown at Sierra Vista Park on Sierra Madre Blvd. The dog area is located behind the public pool near the baseball fields.
I've listed all the restaurants in Sierra Madre with outdoor seating where I have seen dogs:

Nice restaurant for fish in Pasadena
I agree with Wild Swede. Cameron's is a good place for reasonably-priced fish.
Long Beach-where for after dinner dessert?
My friend has flown down from Seattle. She is at the Westin Long Beach on Ocean Blvd at Long Beach Blvd. Anywhere that I can meet her after dinner for some coffee and dessert? I'll drive down so I can pick her up and take her somewhere nearby.
Thanks for any help.

Another recommendation for Malibu Seafood and Duke's. I would add Coogie's in the beautiful Ralph's shopping center. You won't have an ocean view but the food is light, delicious and if you sit outside on their patio, you can people watch.

Balcones del Peru (Hollywood)-Review
SS-- I love the description and pictures on your blog. Thanks so much for the links.
You are right the plating was simple and refined.
Balcones del Peru (Hollywood)-Review
On Friday, we stumbled upon Balcones del Peru after parking at the ArcLight and looking for an inexpensive place to eat. We planned to go to Amoeba Music afterwards, which happened to be a block away.
The place is a hole in the wall. It has a homey, down-to-earth feel that the ArcLight complex lacks.
A basket of bread was dropped at our table with pads of butter and a dish with a very spicy green dipping sauce. We asked the waiter for the best dishes. In the seafood category, he recommended the Arroz Con Mariscos Especial (The Best of the sea prepared in the Peruvian version of the famous Paella.) $17.50. My husband ordered that dish. A large plate came to the table that was chock full of clams, scallops, shrimp, calamari rings over a bed of spicy rice. It was delicious and the price was unbeatable. I ordered the Polio a La Chorrillana (Grilled Chicken Breast topped with sauteed onions, tomatoes and bellpeppers in aji amarillo sauce. Served with steamed rice) $11.75. A good size plate was delivered with a large grilled boneless skinless chicken breast topped with big pieces of onions, bellpeppers and tomatoes. A separate small plate contained the mound of steam rice. The chicken was juicy but was crispy, which made it more delicious. The sauce was very good. I mixed the rice with the sauce. We also ordered the Pilsen Peruvian beer, which is one of the lighter beers--$4.00. It was exactly what we wanted. Based on the presentation of food and the homey atmosphere, we felt like we were eating authentic home cooking.
Next time we are in the area, we plan to stop in at Balcones del Peru.
Los Balcones del Peru, 1360 N. Vine St., Hollywood; (323) 871-9600. Open Sun.–Thurs. 11 a.m.–9 p.m., Fri.–Sat. 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Dinner for two, food only, $18–$28. Beer and wine. AE, MC, V. Validated parking at ArcLight Cinema parking.

Malibu casual Sunday breakfast (not brunch)
If you want to pick up some sandwiches and/or some sides to take to the beach, you can try the Ralph's. They have a full service deli. Also there is a Subway sandwich shop in the Ralph's shopping center. I'm unfamiliar with Malibu Kitchen & Gourmet.
You can also stop at Malibu seafood on the way out to Leo Carrillo, but their menu may not work for you.

Malibu casual Sunday breakfast (not brunch)
The food at Coogie's is good. The ingredients are fresh and meals are healthy. This is not a greasy spoon. You can choose to eat on their small patio. The restaurant is located in the Ralph's shopping center, but this is the nicest Ralph's shopping center I have ever seen.
An added bonus is that you may spot a celebrity. I've seen Pierce Brosnan there.
Malibu casual Sunday breakfast (not brunch)
Servorg--I did notice that it was mentioned, but just wanted to confirm my recent experience with my toddler. I am somewhat familiar with Malibu and as I far as I know there aren't many restaurants near Leo Carrillo State Beach that serve breakfast.
Malibu casual Sunday breakfast (not brunch)
I've taken my toddler to Coogie's with good results. The server knew that the service needed to be speedy to accommodate a toddler's short attention span. We were out of there before my son didn't want to sit any longer. They have an extensive menu.

Suggestions for romantic LA restaurant?
If you don't mind driving down to Malibu, I recommend Beau Rivage. The menu is French-Mediterranean. The setting is beautiful along PCH. To enjoy the ocean, sunset and Malibu light views, you need to reserve a table upstairs. They have a good wine list and their food is light and delicious.
Also you never know who you might see. Last time I was there, Jon Bon Jovi, his mom and sister were at the table next to ours.

Sierra Madre Dinner
Sierra Madre isn't a place for fine, exceptional dining, but it is a good place to find special ingredients for home cooking.
Taylor's Meat Market has exceptional prime meats, including homemade sausages and the best marinated tri-tip I've had. The staff can provide tips on how to cook the meat. As I mentioned before, E. Waldo Ward & Son has great bbq sauces, jams, jellies. I love their seafood cocktail sauce. Savor the Flavor is a great gourmet shop. The owners are extremely nice and they have everything to make home-cooked meals special.

Thanks for the information! I'll have to check those out as well.
I wish they would open one up in the SGV. I know that it would do really well.
Romantic Friday Dinner in Old Pasadena?
The Mount Veeder Cabernet 2004 from Napa was an excellent dry wine. We made sure not to leave one drop in the bottle. It was one of the "Monster Reds" wine sampler that included a red zinfandel and a shiraz.
Cheap and good in Pasadena
The buffet food does seem very similar to Indian food. I'm not sure of the subtle differences. That's why I want to try items off the menu. I've heard that momos are awesome.
