Los Angeles Restaurants on The Daily Meal's "101 Best Restaurants in America"
What, no mention of Fat Burger? They are DEAD to me!
Oh, Campanile - what happened?
Is this a review of Campanile or Tar Pit? The title says "Campanile" but the body refers only to "Tar Pit". I'm also curious as to whether you contacted the restaurant before posting your comment. I've done so in the past with surprisingly positive results.
CHOW Restaurant Data Export Tool Now Available on Your Profile
Thanks for clearing that up, drewski. I was sorely confused.
CHOW Restaurant Data Export Tool Now Available on Your Profile
What IS going away? Are you saying the Restaurant database ISN'T the community restaurant reviews and restaurant locations? I thought that WAS the restaurant database.
Well then, please forgive me for being strident but re-color me CONFUSED. (Please advise)
CHOW Restaurant Data Export Tool Now Available on Your Profile
For what it matters, once the restaurant reviews are unavailable, I'll be deleting CHOWHOUND from my browser as I'll no longer have a use for it. I'm surprised and disappointed the decision was made because CHOWHOUNDS has been my first "go-to" source.
Hope things work out for you but color me "outtahere."
Umami Burger comes to...Thousand Oaks!?!?
When, oh when will this overpriced, over-hyped, poseur of a chain collapse from the weight of it's own hubris?. Enquiring minds, you know.
Short Order....Any Word???
Some comments here:http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/816793 and of course, kevineats has been there: http://www.kevineats.com/2011/11/short-order-los-angeles-ca.html
Golds 99 essential restaurants 2011 up
Personally, I thought it was out of this world.
Ombra? New in Studio City
They may not "need your business" today but in a few months, when the novelty is gone, they'll be checking receipts to contact "all" their "loyal customers" regarding their all-new Two-For-One-All-You-Can-Eat-Please-Keep-Us-In-Business-Kids-Eat-Free menu. You see it all the time.
Miru 8691 ... best burger in Los Angeles?
I prefer the adage "Opinions are like as*holes. Everyone's got one.". Too deep?
Miru 8691 ... best burger in Los Angeles?
That burger was the "ultimate" burger on "Crave", a new Food Network Show. San Diego food writer, looking for the things in burgers he "craved", ended up at Miru 8691 for reasons only he could describe. http://www.foodnetwork.com/crave/burgers-between-the-buns/index.html
I'm not partisan one way or t'other, The Comme Ca burger floats my boat just fine.
Pig Tails?
Had those and they were seriously fit t'eat. In fact, I could have eaten several servings but demurred because pig ear with chile, lime and fried egg was coming.
Re; the search for tails. Have you tried any of the Latino Markets? Jons? Vallarta? El Super? Bet one of them has 'em. Bueno suerte.
Q: where to get malted milk powder (in cars, or, in bulk) ??
Sorry if I mislead you. Didn't know one way or the other but thought it might be someplace to try.

Have you tried Smart & Final?

So how did you celebrate the 100th anniversary of Taiwan's Independence?
Hostess Cupcake, 100 candles. You know, the usual.
Bouchon Bakery
Went there last Saturday at 11:01 but the person ahead of me, bought the last four they had. Can you imagine!? Pfappp!
Offal
Look into your local 99 Ranch Market as well. Asian markets often have the "naughty bits". That's where I get mine when I'm feeling offal. I feel better later. (Too obvious? Sorry.)

Animal Review
I've been to Animal on five occasions with different guests. We've never had a problem with service. The food has been consistent and memorably flavorful ("too salty" is very subjective) not to mention original. For me and my guests, who have eaten all over the world including New Orleans, Singapore, Paris, Miami and San Francisco, it's always been a terrific experience. Maybe you can get "better" (again, subjective) pig's ear, tail, etc. elsewhere but I've yet to see the menu that compares to theirs.
Restauranting is very much like the parable of the ten blind men and the elephant. It all depends on your own, unique, perspective.
What are the hottest Mexican food dishes in town?
Guisados is a place featured on Food Network's "Heat Seekers". Sweet Mother of Gawd that stuff looks tasteeeee and HOT! (Can't wait to try it!) http://www.foodnetwork.com/local/ca-los-angeles/guisados-restaurant/index.html

Did you know that Benihana has "Endless Sushi" for $29.00?
Isn't that the fourth sign of the Apocalypse?
ISO MOST UNUSUAL restaurant in general LA county / area ... just someplace!
Although this string originated 5 years ago (and I'm guessing that dinner is LOOOOONG past) if you want something unique, I recommend The Gorbals. I mean "Bacon Wrapped Matzoh Balls". Where else can you find something like that?

Restaurant to impress an eighteen year old?
I say take him to Hooters. The impression you make on the kid will so outweigh the impression of the two 40-year olds, it'll balance the whole thing out. (Let me know how it goes.)
The Ivy in W. Hollywood?????
Gee, I don't know how you would think a $32 dollar Soft-Shell Crab sandwich would be insulting. (What are these people thinking? Are they flying the crabs in from Maryland one at a time in first-class airline seats?)
Does anyone also agree with me that Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles is just not that great?
It's been some time but I'd have to vote "underwhelmed".
(For those of you who might have seen this on HBO's "Treme", my taste buds were piqued by the Rice Flour Waffles with Korean Fried Chicken that Kim Dicken's character, "Janette Desautel" prepared for David Chang. Now THAT'S a dish that might rock the world. I wonder if that might have been a Bourdain (he writes the "kitchen" parts of the show) invention. Ah, fiction.)
Smoke City bbq: NOT
Here in the SF Valley, I'm on the same "it's the brisket" band wagon as most of y'all. I think it IS overpriced but damn, for the makings of a smoked brisket sandwich, not much else cuts it. Significant is that (for those of us on THIS side of the hill) Bludso's is a two-hour round trip (on a good day) away whereas Smoke City is 15 minutes. Strikes me as a no-brainer.
BBQ - Where to find the best in LA?
Not that I'm endorsing the establishment but The Woody's Bar-B-Que link is an incorrect URL. The correct URL for the restaurant web page is: http://www.woodysbarbquela.com/

Is It Ollallieberry Season yet?
The berries we grow out back finished coming in about 2 weeks ago. Short, short season but really tasty again this year. (I make preserves and pies with ours.)
