East River Cafe in NYC

i had a great meal there when i went a few months back. their black quid gnocchi was to die for...melted in my mouth. out waiter was attentive, very sweet,, but didnt really know how to serve us our bottle of wine.....but the place was pretty empty... atmosphere is nothing special, but its a friendly neighborhood place

Drinks and Dinner near Bryant Park?

couldnt disagree MORE with john's...The pizza at the location is NOT anywhere near quality...soggy, greasy, the place is sorta nasty and dirty too....HB and Kellari, on the other hand, i do agree with.

Pescatore vs. Luna Piena

Well now you are bringing it to another price level....Im assuming OP picked those places for the $$?
If money isnt an issue then i agree, convivio. There is also a little wine bar right there (name escapes me) that would be perfect for a date. 52nd /53rd and 2nd.

Family coming to town..

not sure where you want to go, but here are a bunch:
Il Vagabondo (italian with bocce court inside; which they may find charming)
Spigolo (italian)
l'express- busy, loud, frech bistro; great for people watching
Paul and Jimmy's - Red sauce italian, warm, quiet..
Brasserie 360 - French Bistro
Petite Abeille - Belgian
Marseille - French Bistro
Flex Mussles (only if you love them)
The redhead - cool LES joint. Great food and scene - known for their fried chicken, cocktails...every thing on the menu of fantastic actually...
Motorino for great pizza.
The Smith (regular american)
