granulated molasses

thanks, adina! i'm using the recipe found here: http://www.amazon.com/The-Kitchen-House-A-Novel/dp/1439153663 (for my book club). it calls for a whole cup, so i was afraid of losing out on the moisture, but maybe i'll just add extra milk or an egg...

Has anyone seen Bison in the last 3 months or so?

just posted this on another thread, but kosher express just tweeted that they have bison in stock:

Kosher Pop-up Restaurant

I went in April . The menu was spring-Italian (dairy) and it was amazing!!! From the impeccable service to the delicious food, it was nothing I've ever experienced at a kosher restaurant. It's not a cheap meal, but you won't leave hungry, and wine is included. I dream about the he truffled gnudi.

Kosher Bison

saw on twitter yesterday that kosher express has kosher bison back in stock

granulated molasses

i went to buy molasses to make a cake last night, and i came home and saw that it was granulated. can i substitute it for the regularly syrupy kind?

Did you see the episode with Broccoli Soup on Molto Mario?

just saw the episode today!
he basically boiled broccoli for ten minutes.
in a separate pot he sauteed sliced garlic till they just darkened with a hot pepper. he added the broccoli to the pot with day old bread, cubed. then enough of the cooking water yo cover. and. he seasoned it well and that's it!

Best fish entree ever-- eaten at J Cafe in Deal, NJ

as long as we're talking about jcafe, i'll throw in my advice: skip the omelets.
unfortunately, i heard a rumor that they're moving to lakewood.

Homemade Pareve Ice Cream

you can use coconut milk if you're okay with it also flavoring your ice cream!

Kids & Blue Man Group - Need Restaurant in the Village

there's tahini on 3rd ave. and st. marks. it's one of those smaller hashgachas open on shabbat types of places.

green mango (or papaya)?

great, thanks! i suspected i'd have to venture to chinatown, but it helps to know where specifically to go before heading out.

green mango (or papaya)?

i want to make green mango salad, so my first step is finding some green mango! where can i buy that?
i'm on the upper east side, but expect that i might have to venture away from home.
will i have to plant a mango tree?

Breakfast smoothies that keep you full till lunch

i add rolled oats to my morning smoothies before blending - it really adds texture and volume, helps keep you full!

Rashi Malvasia Wine in NYC?

gotham wines also has an extensive kosher selection, you can call them and see if it's available: (212) 932-0990

What are you baking these days? April 2011 (old)

passover desserts! i'm baking smitten kitchen's lighter-than-air chocolate cake, which was a big hit the past two years and a banana bread with almond meal and potato starch instead of flour and 10 eggs!

Favorite Bittman recipes

yes, his mexican chocolate tofu pudding is so good! not even in a "good for having no dairy in it" kind of way, either!

What's for Dinner? Part 79 (Old)

I'm excited about our Build-Your-Own Taco dinner tomorrow - flour and corn tortillas, tuna (spicy) and cod (crispy), with avocado salad, homemade jalapeno pickles, shredded cabbage, cilantro, red and green salsas, hot sauce, black beans and corn.
And maybe a pitcher of margaritas on the side for the grown ups.

Harissa recipe?

i made anne burrell's recipe after seeing her make it on her show. it's the only one i've ever made, so i don't have much to compare it to, but i thought it was pretty simple and really delicious: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/anne-burrell/harissa-marinated-grilled-chicken-recipe/index.html

Non Dairy Caramel Sauce?

i've used soymilk for caramel sauce- many brands are actually dairy, but i found one that wasn't; i think it was zensoy.

Where to have a NOLA May Rehearsal Dinner?

Came in to say that I am invited to a rehearsal dinner next month at Arnaud's.

Where to buy Hamentaschen, Manhattan or Westchester?

don't know if it's too late, but crumbs is selling big hamentaschen. (haven't tasted them.)

Passover side dishes

lots of veggie side dishes are inherently kosher for passover - any sort of roasted vegetable, string beans with garlic, tomato paste and cumin, brussels sprouts browned then steamed with a little bit of vinegar and sugar, french fries or any potato preparation, cole slaw/cabbage salad, spaghetti squash... would be nice additions to your meal.
if you eat rice on passover, wild rice or mushroom rice. if not, quinoa is k for p.

Cinammon and apple ice cream?

that sounds great! i would add an addition caramel swirl. and maybe cook the apples with some cinnamon/nutmeg.

Brownie recipes!

take a look at the suggestions on this board: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/769681

great tilapia recipes?

sprinkle both sides with salt, lemon zest and juice (would have preferred lime, but didn't have any), grated ginger, sliced jalapenos, cilantro and garlic. place on greased baking tray and cover each fillet with about a teaspoon or two of coconut milk, cover with tin foil and bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes.
garnish with fresh cilantro and lemon wedges. serve with rice.

i made this for dinner last night. it was a hit!

What do I do with...?

kousa - scoop it out and stuff it with meat and rice, and cook in a tomato sauce with some tamarind in true middle-eastern style!

Shall we talk about brownies again? Your favorite recipes and why they are favorites?

no, just a regular 1/2" one works!

Shall we talk about brownies again? Your favorite recipes and why they are favorites?

I came in here to say Ina's Outrageous Brownies (but leave out the nuts)!; they really live up to their name!
I'm pretty sure she uses a half-sheet pan in the episode of her show that she makes these. That's what I always use anyway, and they turn out fine.

Can I use frozen chicken to make chicken soup?

Can be frozen. I do it all the time, never had any problems.

Review of 2011 Kosher Food & Wine Experience

the lamb meatballs were my favorite! i obviously didn't love everything i ate, but was very impressed by the food in general, as well as the event as a whole.
i didn't taste the cholent at pomegranate, but i thought the lamb riblet was good! i did taste the cholent at got cholent - i believe it was the texas style, and i wasn't crazy about it.

Kosher Bison

where are you? my dad has bought some from Foodtown in Long Branch, NJ, thought I don't think they carry it all the time.
