Palo Alto area - buying tomatoes in bulk for sauce directly from a farm?
I've got more time on my hands this year than anticipated so I've decided to up the quantity of tomato sauce I make this month. I'm looking for a cost-efficient way to get a large quantity of excellent tomatoes. (Maybe 50 lbs? Or a little less?) Someone suggested I contact a local farm and pick them up directly (or pick them myself?). Has anyone ever done this? I thought about asking the stands at my local farmers' market, but would love to hear from the Chowhound community too. Would appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!
