Papaya King is coming to Hollywood...

The Papaya King website (encompassing the NYC location) does have the curly fries on the menu - maybe it's a new addition?

Papaya King is coming to Hollywood...

For anyone asking about the price - it's the same as in NYC. The original franks are $2 with one free topping. Addl. toppings are $.50. Specialty franks run from $2.25 - $3.50. Combo with fries/drink are $5-6 range.

Not sure about the larger sausages as I only have had the food from their temporary truck ATM, but so far it looks like they're keeping it consistent with the original.

Oh and for the record, as far as taste, it's what you'd expect from the simple NYC style dogs. Go in knowing that and you'll like it just fine.

Where Does Trader Joe's Food Come From?

I don't think the article was trying to "out" Trader Joes more than they were just trying to pinpoint who the original manufacturers of the items were.

One to add to the list: TJ's Seaweed Snacks = SeaSnax Brand

Review of FIG Restaurant

I had my birthday dinner at FIG this year and must say that the entire table of 14 left beyond satisfied both with the service and the food. FIG helped me have one of my most memorable birthdays to date.

On the food note - the Braised Tongue with Tomatillo sauce is simply impeccable every time. They serve it in every way from tacos to tapas depending on when you go. It's a Ray Garcia staple. Their cheese and charcuterie selection is top notch as well.

Glad you loved it, vinosnob!

Afternoon tea? The London, Montage, Rose Tree Cottage - or???

Just for the record, I had a really lovely, albeit casual afternoon tea at Jin Patisserie.
The Peninsula Hotel also has a pretty infamous tea service. Both might be options for future tea outings.

Great Food Truck Race

Ironically, the first time I ever had Nom Nom (last year sometime), I waited a good 10 minutes, if not more, for my sandwich... it was still pretty worth it though.

Banh Mi - first time

Nom Nom is great - but I must admit Mandoline Grill truck's banh mi put everyone else to shame. Still, for Westsiders, if you can find either of them it's worth a shot. Nom Nom is almost always on Sawtelle (off Olympic) on weeknights.

As for OC, I had my first Banh Mi at BMCC and tried Lee's at a later date... I will never go back to Lee's for a banh mi after that. They do have killer Taro slushes though!

"post-gym" high protein/low carb restaurant?

Tender Greens is good, Greenleaf Chop Shop (Bev Hills, Century City) also caters all of the to-go options at my gym and is delicious to boot. I think the difference is we don't have specific eateries catering to gym rats and muscle men. But pretty much any somewhat healthy eatery you walk into will have a protein + veggies option.

You might like The Veggie Grill for the more fast food type option - it's all vegetarian but the food would fool any meat lover.

Good Cheap Food around LAX

Whoops! That was totally a typo on my part - I did mean to say Ayara, actually. Thanks for the correction!

Good Cheap Food around LAX

Thai Talay has decent thai food for the Westside

Truxton's American Bistro has good beer and burgers

Bar Melody isn't a restaurant, per se, but they do have a food menu and some tasty options

Get the chicken and waffles or the biscuits at Pann's

Best Lobster Roll in Los Angeles area?

LAist did a pretty good round up not too long ago

http://laist.com/2010/07/22/lobster_r...

Although I will disagree with what they said about Delphine - I had great customer service there, and if you go during their Monday night Raw Bar, the lobster roll is only $8.

Xino Has The Best Dim Sum In Santa Monica

I got to try Xino's 'dim sum' at a little preview party and agree - not impressed. I kindof likened the whole place to a fancier PF Chang's. Good for whatever that means, but if you're looking for authentic, look elsewhere.

New Chef at Whist

Apparently Taite Pearson is out at Whist, and Tony DiSalvo is in.

Not that it's a bad thing, but I for one was a big fan of Taite Pearson's fresh menu and killer charcuterie skills. Anyone know where he might be headed?

Great Indian Food in Los Angeles?

I can walk to Taj Mahal and keep hearing amazing things. I'm kicking myself for not having gone there yet.

On another note, I love Gate of India on Sunset and Pointsettia (near Cali Vegan) and my Indian roommate swears by Bollywood Cafe in Studio City.

Mo-Chica is indeed pretty amazing. Great service for such a casual spot, too. Nice writeup.

Has Trader Joes gone downhill over the years?

Nothing beats the ready-made food section at Whole Foods, but for quick weeknight meals or heat-up choices, TJ's is still cheaper and better tasting than anything I'll get at say, Albertson's. I do tend to get my produce elsewhere (go ethnic stores!) and the meat is fairly astronomical, but for everything else, I don't see a huge problem with them.

Plus, I easily spend half as much there as I would at any chain store. I'm still a fan...

Anyone tried the food at Cafe Muse in Hollywood?

I used to work right down the street from Muse and LOVE it. It's a great balance of veggie food that would satisfy your average non-vegetarian as well. The sweet potato fries there are to die for! The chili is great too. Just about everything was worth it. Prices aren't too shabby either.

Best build-your-own burger combo? [moved from LA board]

I have commitment issues. So when it comes to a build your own burger bar I either end up with 8 million toppings (and a mess, and a $20 burger) or I get overwhelmed and just stick with the simple stuff.

So what's a good recommendation for a burger at a place like 25 Degrees, 8oz, The Counter, etc?
