Soccarat Paella - AWFUL
i didn't have a great experience when i went there either. the food was mediocre. the service was actually pretty decent though. the only real problem i had was their a/c. we were sitting next to the bar and the a/c was blowing in my face and my food the entire night, which made the food cold minutes after it arrived. we asked if they could turn it down but they weren't able to because it would've gotten too stuffy in the small space. i'm not sure why the air has to be so strong and why the vent is pointed downwards directly onto the table. i'm not sure if the food being ice cold did anything to affect the flavor, but it seemed bland. i wouldn't go back.
looking for a great food experience. any recs?
my brother is coming to visit in mid december so i'm trying to think of some restaurants to take him to while he's here. by "experience" i mean exceptional food that's creative with unique flavor profiles (like Jean Georges) or a unique dining experience (like bo ssam at Momofuku). it doesn't have to be trendy. he's a fairly adventurous eater but is a workout fanatic so he avoids carbs. the no-carb thing isn't that big of an issue since he generally doesn't have a problem finding something on the menu to order but we'll probably lean towards a restaurant with a good selection of meats and fish on the menu.
i'd prefer to keep it under $100 per person with tax and tip but i don't really have a cap on my budget.
anywhere in manhattan under 86th st.
last time i took him to JG so i was thinking EMP for the tasting menu. also, was considering yakitori at Tori Shin. any suggestions?
Hi... anyone know where to get the BEST fried chicken in Koreatown??
i think it's called mad for chicken, not mad about wings..
In the mood for Thai...(the best thai that is)
what dishes do you recommend from jaiya? i want to go there for lunch tomorrow.

Saturday/Sunday Lunch Prix Fixe or Tasting Deals
oh yeah, and i also had the lemon ricotta cake which was awesome. i'm pretty sure it was included in the prix fixe.
Saturday/Sunday Lunch Prix Fixe or Tasting Deals
i ordered from the prix fixe menu and ordered the tuna tartare and the tenderloin and and my brother ordered an appetizer with mushrooms (i don't see it on the brunch menu online) and the pork chop from the a la carte menu. this was two weeks ago and it was definitely a sunday because i flew in from chicago that morning. you can call to double check. i had reservations for 1pm if that makes any difference.
Friday fancy lunch? Cost not important.
if you have a few hours to spend, i suggest Masa. you should be able to get a seat at the bar for lunch.
Saturday/Sunday Lunch Prix Fixe or Tasting Deals
2nd JG/Nougatine. just went to Nougatine again last Sunday for brunch and the meal was delicious as always.
Not Healthy Manhattan Tour
it's either 4-8pm or 4-7pm happy hour for $23. i think you can request hot sauce for dipping the chicken in at 3rd Floor Cafe but it's still pretty dry.
Not Healthy Manhattan Tour
i'm going to be doing the exact trip as you except in chicago after the urbanathlon. you should definitely try Redhead's fried chicken but if you haven't tried korean fried chicken, it's a must. i would suggest Momofuku but reservations are hard to get so as other people have mentioned, try Boka for their all you can eat chicken and beer happy hour or just go to Mad for Chicken (used to be called Bonchon and it's the same chicken they serve at Boka).
also, for beer, try Pony Bar. they have a lot of domestic craft beers on tap that are constantly rotated with 100 different microbrews from around the u.s. or Ginger Man, who have a ridiculous amount of draft and bottled beers.
MarieBelle's for hot chocolate or you can get both great chocolate and hot chocolate at Jacque Torres although some people think their hot chocolate is too thick.
Resturant with Nightlife.
as you said, there are millions so can you be a little more specific as far as cuisine, location, scene (trendy, laid back, classy, etc), budget?
Madison Square (Park) Mark't
i walked by the park on friday and don't know how i missed it. i only saw the tents selling the jewelry and knick knacks. i wish i knew about it before because i was starving. thanks for the heads up on this, leah
High/Low Dining - does anyone else do this?
because street dogs are delicious. the dirty water, which has that hudson river-esque flavor, gives it that extra new york city character that you just can't get from oscar meyer weiners
High/Low Dining - does anyone else do this?
a month ago, i had a hotdog from a street vendor after a dinner at JG. is that what you're referring to by high/low dining?
Specific Request - Lunch near Penn Station in Hotel Restaurant
you might want to check out cooper's tavern in the new yorker hotel on 35th st and 8th ave. the food is decent for the area and it fits the criteria that you're looking for. or nile's in the affinia hotel on 7th ave at 32nd st.
K - town korean - need hot bi bim bop for lunch
yeah, not a fan of their mandoo which is why i ordered the dolsot bibimbap and was pleasantly surprised. i just figured out what i'm eating for lunch today.
Park Avenue Autumn -- Review
thanks for the review. i used to live on 63rd st and walk by this restaurant all the time when it first opened. the reason i never went there was because i saw that it was the same restaurant group as S&W so i was wary about the food. it looks like i'll have to add it back on my list of places to try.
Steakhouse for BF's Birthday - Primehouse, Quality Meats, Old Homestead?
out of the 3 you listed, i would say Old Homestead. also, as hcbk mentioned, Minetta Tavern has bone marrow and is probably a better option than Quality Meats. Quality Meats was mediocre and i would put it in the same tier as Smith and Wollensky. The bread was the best part of the meal.
Don Bogam - the best sam gyup sal in ktown (and maybe best bbq?)
i've tried almost every korean restaurant on that block and the surrounding area and there aren't any that i would go back to. i almost feel like giving up because i know i'm setting myself up for disappointment. i've never eaten in queens and would rather gouge out my eyeballs than step foot in jersey (kidding..it's just too far) so i either get my korean fix at home or when i make a yearly trip to l.a. sorry i can't help with any good suggestions. i'll report back shortly after my trip to bogam.
What's your Strip Steak rating?
one of the times i went there, the waiter called it a ny strip. i was confused about that. doesn't make sense but i guess a good steak's a good steak. i still like bone-in better.
What's your Strip Steak rating?
i prefer the strip steak rather than the whole porterhouse as well. the steak at sparks is good but it's not a strip loin, it's a sirloin. strip house has a great bone-in strip steak.
Don Bogam - the best sam gyup sal in ktown (and maybe best bbq?)
i usually only eat korean at 3 in the morning after drinking when my taste buds are less discerning because korean food in manhattan is so poorly executed. i hope this isn't yet another bitter incursion into kblock.
Upper West Side Brunch
i had a good brunch at kefi but it was like a ghost town in there.
K - town korean - need hot bi bim bop for lunch
i've heard that hanbat has good dolsot bibimbap but all their other food that i've eaten is inedible.
K - town korean - need hot bi bim bop for lunch
bibimbap is one of those things that's really hard to mess up so i'm sure you can go to any restaurant on kblock and be satisfied but i had decent dolsot bibimbap at mandoo bar which is weird because it's a dumpling joint. also, you could try kunjip or kum gang san. on the menu, it'll be called either dolsot or gopdol bibimbap.
Keens Review + Photos
i've never actually had their porterhouse because i like the strip and don't care too much for filet. when i want a more tender cut of meat, i'll usually choose ostrich over beef. i will definitely try their ribeye next time i go. thanks for the suggestion.

i'm a luger fan myself and try to go as much as possible but when i can't get to brooklyn, strip house has always been my go-to steak house after trying all the others. i think every steak house has its signature steak (luger's porterhouse, spark's shell, keen's mutton chop, strip house's.. strip) so i'm not saying that it's a better steak house than luger or any other top steak house but, i suggest that you go and try the bone-in strip steak and get the truffle creamed spinach and goose fat potatoes. it's my favorite steak and sides in manhattan.
