Where to go for what my 70 y/o Mom thinks is a "fun" meal? But foodies need to be appeased, too.

That may be too tame for her, lol. I'll peruse the posts and see what I find about their music. Thank you for the suggestion!

Where to go for what my 70 y/o Mom thinks is a "fun" meal? But foodies need to be appeased, too.

My Mom and I share the same birthday and this year will be my 40th. I had to miss her 70th last year b/c I was preggers and due 2 days later (she lives in FL). When I asked her if she had any preferences for where she'd like to eat while she's here for our b-day in Feb 2011 she said she wanted to go someplace "fun".

Pressing her on what constitutes "fun", she said she'd like a place where they have music and diners can just get up and dance in the aisles. I think she's picturing everyone doing the Italian napkin dance or boogying to German oom-pah-pah accordian music. The atmosphere and event is more important to her than having good food. I'm was wincing as I wrote that, because...

The rest of us LOVE food. The food is the most important thing. We post our food porn after meals.

Is there someplace we can go to make everyone happy? And if not, where can we go to make *her* happy?

Ideas for mail order hostess gift, please

My 11 year old daughter is flying to GA to spend a week with her best friend's family next month. I'd like to mail a hostess gift of NY food, but am not sure what to order or from where and would love some suggestions. We've only lived here a couple of years and live in Pelham, so aren't familiar with who does mail order and what they do well. Things to know:

1. When we hosted the friend last year, they sent a box (I forgot where from) with babka and rugelach. We're Jewish, they're not (so they had no idea what they sent when they sent it, lol).

2. The father of the family of 6 is vegan AND doesn't drink (mom does drink and everyone eats meat)

3. I'd like to order from just one place

I think those are the pertinent details. Thanks so much for your help!

Looking for "cantina" delivery near Pelham

Hi! I grew up in Miami and there and in Puerto Rico there is a Hispanic (Cuban or Puerto Rican) food delivery called "cantina". It's comida por libra/ food by the pound and you usually get the menu and order for the week. So maybe you want it delivered M, W and F, for example.

Anyone know of anything like this around here? It may be called something different. I tried googling with no success...

Any help is appreciated :-)

East Harlem food/walking tour?

Big O -

You are a man among men. Or a woman among women, possibly, but I can't imagine most women would use the word Big in their name. But I digress....

That is JUST what I was looking for - thank you so much! You said you might've plotted it out differently. You've explained it well, I think, so I'll try plotting them all on a grid and see if there's another order that makes sense. I'll let you all know what I come up with. Again, I can't thank you enough.

East Harlem food/walking tour?

Hi all,

We've done the LES food/walking tour (and might I say, it's met with rave reviews by guests! Thanks, OP!!) and were wondering if it's possible to do the same kind of thing for East Harlem (or any other area, for that matter).

We're still fairly new to the area and live N of The bronx in Pelham, so if it's a ridiculous idea, keep in mind that we don't know what we're talking about. I have no idea what other (if any) parts of the city are laid out close enough like the LES.

We'll be making our first pilgrimage to Patsy's - our first foray into the Great Pizza Debate - b/c gepgraphically it's most convenient. During the convo about going my hubby wondered if it was possible to do an East Harlem tour. I searched like crazy through the boards, but couldn't find anything.

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed,
