PARIS LAS VEGAS breakfust buffet
Can anyone tell me if it's THAT great. We're visiting Las Vegas in two weeks, but staying at the Mandalay. Is it worth the schlep in a cab for the Paris's buffet? We're from Los Angeles, by the way. Thanks in advance!!
OP CAFE on OCEAN PARK is OPEN: as usual
Um, it was me, and it wasn't a rumor. I live a few blocks from there, and they were closed last week, with newspaper on the windows. I posted the question "Did anyone know if it shut down". Thanks for the update.
Why is OP Cafe on Ocean Park boarded up?
Interesting. Thanks for checking. They had been closed all last week, all day. hmmmm...
Why is OP Cafe on Ocean Park boarded up?
Does anyone know? I drove by today and there's newspaper on the windows, and it's all dark. I'm not a fan, but it always seems crowded.
soft serve ice cream truck ala Mr. Softee?
Notmartha..those look DELICIOUS!! Thanks!!
soft serve ice cream truck ala Mr. Softee?
I just find it so odd that I can't find an old fashioned ice cream truck in West LA. Why don't they have one at the beach? At the park? In front of the private schools in Santa Monica? I'm tempted to buy a franchise.
soft serve ice cream truck ala Mr. Softee?
Desperately seeking soft serve ice cream truck driving around the Westside. Missing that darling East Coast Mr. Softee. Any advice?
LORD HAVE MERCY..pastry basket at Anisette
Just had breakfast for the first time there. The pastries in the breakfast basket are UNBELIEVABLE. THE most delicious pain chocolat, raisin brioche, and croisssants. The buttery goodness is beyond description.
In search of self serve fro yo on Westside
Thanks, but I'm really looking for SM/West LA area.

One more thing...they had about 30 different topping choices!!

Hi and please help!! I just visited Yogurt Zone in Woodland Hills where you have a choice of about 10 different flavors of frozen yogurt, from Pinkberry-ish to all kinds of other low fat flavors. You pay by the ounce, and you do the toping bar yourself. You can also get cones. It's amazing and so fun. Have any types of shops like this popped up on the West side yet? FarmBoy does not compare at all to what I'm talking about. Yogurt Zone was more of a yogurt emporium, and now I'm on a mission. Thank you so much!!
Floor Seating Japanese Restaurant
IRORI in MArina Del Rey!! All the seats in the restaurant are like that, and you take your shoes off at the entrance. We go there all the time!!
I am in LOVE...with Pitfire Pizza in Westwood
Also, I find the California Chicken Cafe across the street a tad depressing. It's nice to be able to go somewhere to eat for about 10-12 dollars a person, and actually enjoy the whole scenario. I really do have a crush on this place.
I am in LOVE...with Pitfire Pizza in Westwood
Our bill was 40.00 for 3 pizzas, a mac and cheese and two cupcakes. We had a great experience, and it was nice to have a cute pizzeria ambiance. I'm just happy to have something a little different for casual dining.
I am in LOVE...with Pitfire Pizza in Westwood
We went there tonight for the first time....this place reminds me of a casual Mozza. The pizzas we got were INCREDIBLE...burrata and arugala, "Big Sur", with Garlic shrimp, tomato and lemon, and an incredible broccolii-type concoction. The mac and cheese was divine for my little one. Best of all, they had several flavors of Aunti Em's cupcakes, including red velvet. And watermelon lemonade and sangria. Has anyone else gone and loved it?
Challah on the Westside on Friday Mornings?
My FAVORITE place to get challah is the BELWOOD BAKERY on Sunset and Barrington..omg. They have them only on Fridays. Heavenly.
Katsu-ya, Encino
I went there for the first time last night, and I LOVED it. The best thing by far was the seared albacore with crispy onions..OMG. We also LOVED the rock shrimp tempura..the sauce is to die for. The Kobe beef looked amazing, and all the rolls we had were outstanding. ENJOY!! It's a great place.
Novel Cafe question ...
I didn't ask, but it seemed like she was more than a waitress. I was looking at their muffins that she said they now bake...I'll probably try one next week. I was a tad irritated that the coffee was cold and the turkey soup had very little turkey, but we're desperate to find places to eat in the neighborhood, so I'll give it another try. How funny that we were there at the same time!!
Novel Cafe question ...
SERVORG!! I was THERE when you were!! I heard your wife comment on the dressing. My daughter and I went in for tuna melts. And I agree, it was fine, but nothing to rush back for. They have a lot of kinks to iron out.
Roll House Sushi in Santa Monica--Anyone been?
Are you sure you have the location right? Is it in the mall? I'd be really curious to hear about it.
Dimly lit, quiet restaurants, with half-circle booths
Vito Italian restaurant on Ocean Park and 28th. The waiters even wear tuxedos. Perfect.
Very Fluffy Egg-White Omletes
JINKY'S in Santa Monica!!!! Best ever....2nd street between Broadway and SM Boulevard.
Why I still adore JAR
The lobster bernaise is UNREAL. My perfect "bite" tonight was a piece of steak, that sauce, and a dab of mashed potatoes. Sigh....................
Why I still adore JAR
We went back to Jar tonight, to celebrate my husband's birthday. Our meal was absolutely perfect, and the service continues to be impeccable. Here's what we had:
Appetizers- My daughter had shrimp/crabcakes served with a beautiful homemade tartar sauce. My husband had squash blossoms stuffed with lobster. Both were specials, and utterly divine. I had my tried and true butter lettuce salad in a lemon vinegraitte, served with baby radishes and shaved parmesan.
Main- We all had the filet mignon, cooked to perfection. Sides were pea tendrils, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. We had three side sauces: lobster bernaise, bernaise and horseradish. Every bite was pure ecstacy.
We passed on dessert, as we have an assortment of cupcakes from all over LA waiting for us at home. It was the most splendid meal. While we were there, we reserved a table for Thanksgiving, which I hear is wonderful at Jar.
Vanilla Bake Shop... a small protest for a small cupcake
I went to Vanilla a week ago and shared 6 mini cupcakes with friends. I am still dreaming about their deliciousness, and can't wait to go back. Meyer Lemon was the best. Sigh.
