The Collapser's Profile
What's the best Po'Boy in the French Quarter?
Family is visiting for Thanksgiving. I usually am partial to Guy's on Magazine, but would like to know where to go in the French Quarter.
I think Johnny's is overrated/average. Never tried Verti Mart. Maybe Stanley's?
Best Sushi in NOLA?
Hands down, the best sushi place in New Orleans is Horinoya. It's on Poydras at Baronne in the CBD.
Real Japanese chefs, amazing skill, and the fullest Japanese menu, including Kobe beef.
The only other place that is remotely worth going to is Sake Cafe on Magazine. Pretty interior, nice ambient music, and they've really tried to go upscale recently, and it has been mostly successful.
Every other place, Hana, Ninja, Kyoto, are on par with day-old grocery store cooler sushi.
New Orleans Trip Report! Big Mistake…………….
I've eaten at Bayona twice recently, and both times the food and service were middling to mediocre.
Sad, as a few years ago Bayona was amazing. Not sure what has happened there.
Bayona
The Garlic Soup at Bayona is the best soup of my life.
It is utterly fantastic.
And the courtyard is wonderful during cooler months.
Dress code for Stella, August, Brigsten's & Commander's Palace?
A sharp suit never does anyone harm, especially at Stella and August.
I'm convinced the best burger in the French Quarter is at Jäger Haus
It's this German place on Conti between Bourbon and Dauphine.
People go on and on about Port of Call or Yo Mamas, and I have tried both. These burgers are like slabs of beef thrown atop a bunny bun, with some plastic mayo packets.
Nothing like this at Jäger Haus. They have this "Black Forest burger" that is on a toasted gourmet bun, topped with apple smoked bacon and cheese of your choice - I always go for the blue cheese.
This is real cheeseburger art, and to me, the best burger in town.
Is Boulevard the best restaurant in SF?
I am not a local, but I travel to beautiful San Francisco frequently. Boulevard has been, thus far, the best restaurant in which I have had the pleasure of dining.
Is there one better? I will be in town next week, and I'm ready to be blown away.
Favorite dish in NOLA? Mine used to be Stella's "Duck Five Ways". . .
but then I ate at Restaurant August. Wow, that place blows Stella out of the water.
Don't get me wrong, I am a longtime fan of Stella and Boswell. But August is so on-point it hurts. I mean the wait staff is perfect. Glasses are always full, wait staff never in the way.
Oh, my new favorite dish? The 5 course tasting menu.
Nola Martini Fans??
I have had martinis all over the city. Restaurant August served the absolute best martini I have ever had. It was perfect - chilled glass, thin ice membrane atop the shadow of vermouth. Excellent. I usually get good ones at Bombay Club, but that place is a little rickety.
