Recommendations near Ogunquit, ME

We just had a lovely dinner at Bandaloop in Kennebunkport -- really creative, farm to table food. Definitely options for the non-seafood types. Upscale without being formal. A little more expensive than I think is necessary, though.

Kosher Caterer near Meredith, NH (Lake Winnipesaukee area)

That could be a tall order -- there aren't a lot of kosher options generally in the northern New England states (speaking from Maine, here). I'd try calling the synagogues in the large towns/cities (like Concord, Nashua, and Manchester) and see if they have any suggestions.

Moving to Portland - family friendly and take-out/delivery recommendations needed

Hi! You might want to look for a recent thread on kids in Portland restaurants, it has some good suggestions and was in reply to someone with a three year old. Our daughter is almost three -- we've had good luck at Paciarino, which will happily make up plainer pasta (only has one high chair, though), and Yosaku (sushi) almost always has kids there for dinner, both good are restaurants in their own right. Bonobo has yummy pizza and toys and is kid friendly, although it doesn't take reservations. Silly's is supposed to be very kid friendly, but I've never been. Miss Portland is a good diner, also kid friendly.

have you discovered portlandfoodmap.com? it's a great local resource.

Welcome to Portland -- we love living here!

I shop primarily at Hannaford's, but supplement with Whole Foods; there's also the trader joe's, and the shaws aren't bad, although the produce is nothing to speak about.

sushi in Portland/Freeport area?

Yosaku in Portland is always a great bet -- good quality sushi, friendly restaurant.

Looking for best restaurant in Portland where we can bring along our toddler

The folks at Paciarino are always very friendly towards kids, and will happily make up basic pasta with cheese or butter, even though it's not on the menu. They only have one high chair, though. We've never brought our little girl to Street & Co but the staff there are pretty relaxed and the volume level is high enough that if your daughter gets a little loud it won't be disruptive. (Both are also conveniently close to Gorgeous Gelato, which I highly recommend).

Three dinners in Portland

Will add to the chorus recommending Emilitsa, fabulous food, relaxed atmosphere, great Greek wines (which the servers are very knowledgeable about). I like Street and Company a lot (the sole francais is amazing); it can get a little loud, be sure to request the back room. Bar Lola is very good but the service is slooooooow -- be prepared to have a very relaxed meal. Caiola's is another good choice too, as is Green Elephant.

Portland in April with kids--critique/advise away!

Paciarino is great for kids -- they're very family friendly, and will happily make up some plainer pasta if the kids require it. And the stop at Gorgeous Gelato down the street is a must.

Bonobo is another great pizza place, aso very family friendly. Caiola's is excellent. Yosaku makes excellent (if not distinctive) sushi, and there are always kids there. I have never seen kids at Emilitsa (which is an excellent choice overall). I find the staff at Green Elephant to be a little kid-unfriendly, at least at dinner.

I love the children's museum!

searching for Maine grown polenta, durum and semolina flours

If you're in the Portland area, Borealis (a bakery on Ocean Avenue) sells Maine whole wheat flour by the 5 lb bag; there's also at least one vendor at the Wednesday farmer's market who sells locally grown grains, at least during the summer.

Definitely, if you're looking for pasta. Wonderful food, friendly relaxed atmosphere, and just down the street from Gorgeous Gelato :-)

A few questions for Portland / Scarborough

I love both Emilitsa and Bar Lola, and would definitely pick Emilitsa if I was only going to one. Bar Lola is probably less expensive overall, but the service can be spotty. I've never ever had a bad meal at Emilitsa. Get the saganaki!

Street & Company. Order suggestions?

I adore the Sole Francaise at Street and Co -- yummy! Be sure to request a table in the back room, which is quieter and not as warm as the room with the open kitchen.

I second the rec for Bar Lola, a consistently good restaurant. The service can often be a little slow, though.

How's my list ? Critique my Portland dining choices please!!

Personally, I'd pick a different place for sushi, I've been underwhelmed by Benkay. I really like Yosaku, for consistently very good sushi; Miyake is, by reputation, the place to go if you want interesting/special/fancy sushi.

Bar Lola's food is wonderful, you might want to consider a meal there, but service can be slow. I tend to enjoy Street and Company, but it can be a little hit or miss. Emilitsa, on Congress, serves wonderful Greek food, including very fresh fish, and is my favorite place (and I would pick it over Street and Company or the Front Room).

Portland - Dining with a vegetarian

Paciarino has a large number of vegetarian pastas, all of which are yummy, and most of the appetizers are vegetarian too. And then you can head to Gorgeous Gelato for dessert.

Emilitsa is a good choice -- there's always one vegetarian entree, plus the trio of dips/spreads that's listed as an appetizer can make a nice main course too (my husband has done that before). It's a great restaurant overall.

Kid-Friendly in Bar Harbor?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for recommendations for kid friendly places to eat in Bar Harbor -- I'll be there later this week with my 14 month old in tow. Places with decent vegetarian options are preferred. Many thanks!

Great food but kid friendly restaurants (Portland, ME)?

We've had a good experience at Yosaku with a toddler; my sister also took said toddler to Green Elephant and said it should be okay for lunch or early in the evening. I've also had a good luck at Paciarino with a baby and am not too worried about bringing her back as she gets older, again earlier in the evening.

My favorite restaurant in Portland. The food is wonderful, and the staff friendly and knowledgeable (especially about all the Greek wines that they know no one is familiar with).

Last Minute Trip to Portland... Help!

I really like Emilitsa, really good Greek food; Paciarino makes excellent homemade pastas; Bar Lola in Munjoy Hill is always stellar. Otto Pizza, on Congress, is a relative newcomer, but makes excellent creative pizzas and sells by the slice.

Moving to Portland, ME

Portland is a wonderful food town (says this ex-New Yorker). The food here may not be as innovative or exciting as you're used to, but one can eat very very well. I'd check out the Portland Food Map: http://www.portlandfoodmap.com/ -- it's a great resource both for food news in town and for an extensive listing of all the restaurants in Portland, including links to reviews, websites, maps, etc.

Run a search for "Portland" on this board, and you'll see a lot of the most commonly named excellent restaurants (Fore Street, Hugo's, Street and Company) -- I'm personally a big fan of Emilitsa (Greek), Bar Lola (small plates), and Paciarino (Italian).

Looking for Vegetarian Friendly in Quebec City

Hi! My husband and I will be spending a few days in Quebec City this month, and are looking for vegetarian-friendly restaurants, especially in Old Quebec, either upper or lower town. We do some fish, just not seafood.

Thanks!

Dinner in Burlington or Montpelier

Mr. Mir and I are looking to spend a night in either Montpelier or Burlington, and are looking for a dinner suggestion, something with nice ambiance and great food, and a focus on fish or vegetarian-friendly (can be Italian or other ethnic).

Thanks for your help!

Dogfish Bar and Grille on Free Street serves food all afternoon. I believe Yosaku closes down between lunch and dinner.

Vegetarian/Vegan in Portland, ME?

Paciarino on Fore Street has lots of vegetarian pasta options, and they aren't really heavy on the butter or cheese. And it's a wonderful restaurant besides.

You can put together a really nice meal of appetizers and meze at Emilitsa that are vegetarian, and they usually have one vegetarian main course.

Bar Lola, in Munjoy Hill, is an excellent choice -- just had a lovely dinner there this evening. Emilitsa, on Congress in the downtown, is also great.
