Hoboken Bars

I'm looking for two kinds of bars in Hoboken.

1) a bar in Hoboken that is offbeat and divey. A place that is full with locals and a bartender that perhaps has lived in Hoboken forever.

2) The bar that is best in Hoboken for drinks, socializing, music, and fun.

New to Montclair area: sushi, produce, burritos

Tinga's is decent for tacos and burritos, which is in Upper Montclair. There's a farm stand in Verona right on Bloomfield Ave that also appears at the Saturday market in Montclair.

Nori Sushi is pretty good. The YAM YAM EEL is an awesome appetizer, sushi with sweet potato.

Pick one restaurant...

Dear all NJ Board readers:

If you could only eat at one New Jersey restaurant for the rest of your lives, which restaurant would you pick? Me personally, I would choose Clydz in New Brunswick. Why? First, great cocktail list. Second, the game burger on the bar menu is phenomenal. Third, they have an otherwise good menu with selections that will satisfy your hunger. That's all I could ask for in a restaurant. It would keep me satisfied for life.

New Jersey vs NYC/Philadelphia

With one of the highest average household incomes in the nation, why is that most New Jerseyans will travel to NYC or Philadelphia for a great meal? Why hasn't NJ attracted celebrity chefs? Why aren't there restaurants in the state that rival the likes of Per Se, Vetri, or Le Bernardin? New Jersey should have a steakhouse that rivals Peter Luger. Do these restaurants exist in NJ? Sure, when it comes to hot dogs and diners, NJ hardly has any peers. But I'm talking about the restaurants that dreams are made of. Am I missing something? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Neopolitan pizza

Ah'pizz in Montclair is fantastic for neop. pizza. The Margherita pie is awesome. Great pies, great ambiance. Is this the first authentic neopolitan pizza in NJ? I haven't seen any since I've lived in NJ. I'm just glad Ah'pizz it's right around the corner!

New Jersey Wines

My experience with NJ wines has mainly been at the annual wine festival held in August, where several NJ wineries attend. I've always loved Alba's apple wine, and I use it to make sourdough stuffing. I also enjoy Tomasello's Blueberry Spumante, which is fruity and refreshing. To me, most of the grape wines taste the same from vineyard to vineyard. I did a mini tour of some vineyards during the Valentine's day tour a couple years back, but don't remember the exact wineries visited.

I do love the fact that NJ does have it's own Napa. Which wines/vineyards are you a fan of?

Chez Mein - best cheap meal?

I ran into the hole in the wall Chez Mein this past week in Montreal. It's a late night joint and they serve "chow mein" noodles: Noodles with sesame sauce, and dumplings and a spring roll on the side. It's on the corner of Des Pins and St. Laurient. Amazing noodles. Amazing price. Perfect after eating cheese, butter, and cream all day.

Anyone else agree?

Eno Terra in Princeton - overrated?

I went to Eno Terra for my parents anniversary. I was really excited, as I've read the reviews and drooled over the menu, and appreciate the focus on local foods. However, I must say, the food was a big dissapointment. Though the fried artichokes were amazing, everything else was well below average.

I want to go back to try other menu options, especially the sandwiches. But what has been others' experience here?

New Brunswick Restaurant Week

Went to Catherine Lombardies for the restaurant week. The menu was one app, a pasta dish, and a dessert. So I ordered off the regular menu, which was a better, but more expensive idea. Great food and drinks.

I agree though that the NB rest. week doesn't seem like it was well organized as most resaurants were TBD on the website. Weird.

Ground Lamb in NJ

Does anybody know of a good place to buy ground lamb in central or northern New Jersey? I'm looking to buy about 5 lbs and need some quality meat.

I'm a big fan of Kolsch beer, ever since I visited Koln, Germany. Does anyone know where to get some good Kolsch beer in Philadelphia or NYC area?

Anybody enjoyed the ginja bars in Lisbon? I have to say that was one of my most favorite travel experiences I've ever had.

I am craving some ginja.

BLU, Montclair, NJ

Blu is in my top 5 of NJ restaurants. I remember the scallops and truffle risotto to be one of the best meals i've had all year. Awesome.

NYC Foodie Vacation (anything missing? Chowhound approved?)

Check out Graffiti for fusion Indian on 10th st, between 1st and 2nd ave. Awesome place, very small. You may have to share tables with other diners. But the food is worth it. The chef also helps with service, and he explains how each ingredient in each dish you order helps to enhance the flavors. Not to be missed! Also, the chef was on Iron Chef recently.

Kesté Pizza & Vino -- August 2009 report

The namesake pizza at Keste is incredible. Arugula on pizza just makes it better. I do agree, one of the best crusts on a pizza ever.

There's a place in Bridgewater called Char , that just opened up. I haven't been , but from the outside looks really nice.

There's also Steakhouse 85 in New Brunswick which I've heard good comments about from friends.

Are there any good tapas places in Central/Northern NJ? I have yet to come across any. Seems like I always have to venture to NYC to get great tapas.

Steak Au Poivre

Where would I find the city's best Steak Au Poivre? I've had a craving for it for such a long time. I was thinking of going to Les Halles, but want to know other rec's. Also, not looking for anything too expensive.

Cobra Beer

When I was in London earlier this year, I had tried Cobra Beer, which was awesome. It's an Indian based beer. Does anyone know of any beer stores in NYC that may have this beer for sale? Perhaps in Chinatown? I haven't been able to find it so far...

BEST TAPAS Barcelona

Hey Sockster,

There's an amazing place called Ginger in the Barri Gotic area. Though the name may imply its Asian, its strictly Spanish.

They serve great tapas, and I had perhaps the best pollo arroz at this place. I had to order it two times. They have a good wine selection as well. The place is small, lights are low, waitresses are nice. Try to get a seat upstairs. Amazing.
