Costco Food Finds - 4th Quarter 2014

I really liked the mega pumpkin pie as big as a damn hubcap, it was tasty.

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - December 2014

Two items were complete failures this month, for me ...
Coconut pancake mix (TOOOOO SWEET)
Frozen falafels (TOUGH AND FLAVORLESS)

Frozen falafels ... YUK. What an insult to falafels. They're dry, grainy and gross. Avoid.

Re-thinking Berkeley icons at holiday time

Hyperbowler ... hi, hope you're doing well! I am a huge CB fan and I've tasted almost every flavor they make and even I think they all taste sort of the same but in a good way!

And the funny thing is that Ici ice cream isn't really all that good. I will take Scream on Solano over Ici any day of the week.

When it comes to things like the cheddar cheese scone I am more loyal to Arizmendi Lakeshore actually. The staff at Arizmendi is MUCHMUCHMUCH more nice and friendly too.

Yeah I agree with you that they all pretty much taste the same in a way ... but if you like them then you will consistently be pleased. My only fail at Cheeseboard was the peach/bleu cheese one, but to be fair I brought it home and ate it cold.

"Worst of 2014" nominations

I didn't attend but I have a feeling the big ramen festival snafu in Japantown is going to figure prominently on this list.

Ha ha I was going to eat there but I'm glad I checked Chowhound and Yelp first!

Their fresh pizza dough is so cheap and tasty I'd actually prefer making a pizza like this from scratch. I often start a white pizza with creme fraiche instead of tomato sauce.

Are you thinking of the one in the cold case (not frozen) with the fresh spinach? That stuff is awesome.

I see it in El Cerrito. I tried it once though and it was so bland.

As I top-posted in another thread, he coconut pancake mix is a fail.
But almost everything pumpkin has been great, so far, including the Pumpkin O's cereal, the pumpkin butter (good on ice cream), and the pumpkin pancake mix especially.
The pumpkin spice coffee isn't as good as the Winter Spice one, you know the one?

Help finding an article about food in India?

Northern means where? Himachal Pradesh? Chandigarh? Delhi?
Definitely hit Karim's in Old Delhi, I'm sure everyone's told you that -- great tandoori stuff though it's pretty touristy.
I would also check out more recent writings about Northern India since the level of culinary experimentation and sophistication has really grown in the past few years.
Are you on Lonely Planet's board The Thorn Tree? Some helpful stuff there too, but skewed to the hippie demographic by and large.

Pietisserie opens in Lake Merritt [Oakland]

thank you!

Another Whole Foods coming to Berkeley

They have oysters for $1.50 apiece, including local Northern California oysters ... and the fish guy says if you call ahead they can shuck some for you and keep them on ice with some lemon wedges, in a little styrofoam tray with plastic wrap on top.
I would totally take those out onto the patio and enjoy some al fresco oysters one of these days!

Another Whole Foods coming to Berkeley

I have been twice now and I love it.
Wish the barista at Allegro wasn't such a b**** and that a tiny caffe latte didn't cost $3.50 WTF

Trader Joe's coconut pancake mix: no, just no.

I was so excited about it, since the pumpkin spice pancake mix is so tasty.
YUK it tastes like a coconut candy bar -- wayyyy too sweet.
Avoid.

Grandmas, and kids for dinner near Wilshire/Fairfax?

I'm taking my 9-year-old and my mother & aunt to dinner near Park La Brea and I wonder if you can recommend something fun. We usually go to Umami Burger, Pizzeria Mozza, Toi and The Counter. Would like something new! :-)
Thanks Chowhounds
