Favorite brown bag lunches that don't require reheating

What about a thermos? You can keep a hot, foil-wrapped burrito in it even if you don't want something like soup or stew.

Umami Burger SOMA-Seriously? (Long Review) [San Francisco]

I had them in LA when they first opened and loved them. But I'm a sucker LOL

Oyster Happy Hour at The Elite Cafe in San Francisco

Thanks for this review. Saved me a trip! :-)

Grandmas, and kids for dinner near Wilshire/Fairfax?

I'm taking my 9-year-old and my mother & aunt to dinner near Park La Brea and I wonder if you can recommend something fun. We usually go to Umami Burger, Pizzeria Mozza, Toi and The Counter. Would like something new! :-)
Thanks Chowhounds

Do You Need a Pricey Culinary Degree to Be a Top Chef?

Step one. Get full sleeve tattoos. Every single bleepin' cook/chef/whatever in this city sports them. It's a uniform. It's a cliche.

One hones one's intuition after much experience though. In any discipline.

I agree, the pic doesn't look very appetizing, looks half-cooked.

Where to live in Oakland for food?

We liked being close to Lakeshore (Arizmendi, TJ's) and Grand Avenue. We lived on Ivy Hill, which is just a (hilly) walk to get there and it was a super location. Ivy Drive at Park Blvd. Very affordable.

Three-Bean Salad

I'll ditch the sugar (substitute honey?) but otherwise looks lovely

Home food delivery a la Munchery/Spoon Rocket?

I'm writing from the SF Bay Area where it seems we have a zillion startups who are NOT restaurant delivery but instead deliver chef-made meals. Companies like Munchery or Sprig ... Evolution Meals ... Spoon Rocket ...
Is there anything like that in LA? Specifically near Wilshire/Fairfax.
Thanks!

I hate chicken too, unless it's butterflied and sauteed with capers.

Pizza Bianca -- with their pizza dough, creme fraiche instead of tomato sauce, topped with mozzarella, blue cheese, sage and walnuts (toast them first). DELISH

Grocery Outlet (May, 2014)

I was looking for Amy's healthy frozen dinners at Richmond recently and didn't see any. There's another brand of healthy-ish frozen dinners but I was afraid to try them, since most of the healthy ones suck.

Town and Country Village - Palo Alto

I have only been to the Indian place that's modeled after Chipotle. Not bad.

Decline in the food truck craze?

I regularly attend the El Cerrito OTG and it's just as robust as ever. The prices and lines are indeed a drag though!

I second Pyramid Brewery. I take my kid there to watch baseball. The food is NOT great but they have a lot of screens scattered throughout.
