Looking for restaurant recs in Detroit

Guilty. :)

How far is Warren from downtown?

I'll add Slow's to the list..thanks for the rec.

Looking for restaurant recs in Detroit

I'll be in next Friday, the 25th through Tuesday.

Cincinnati Dining Dilemna

I've had a great burger and cocktails at Senate. The place is tiny, but worth a visit if you can get there early to grab a table.

Looking for restaurant recs in Detroit

Sounds very promising...I'll add it back to the list.

Anything worthwhile around the Westin Cadillac? I will have access to a vehicle and can travel upwards of 5 miles for other options.

Looking for restaurant recs in Detroit

I noticed that. My in-laws live in Cleveland, so going to a Symon restaurant is usually on my list when I visit. I would probably skip Roast in favor of something a bit more casual and less expensive.

Sugar House looks great, thanks for the rec.

Hounds,

I’ll be staying near Hart Plaza in a few weeks. I’m looking for cocktails bars and anything else that’s unique to Detroit.

Any recs are welcome.

not to miss in nashville

You'll find lots of threads here that go in great detail, but I'll throw out some of my favorites.

Arnold's
City House
Bolton's
Pepperfire
The Patterson House
Yazoo Brewery Tour
Corsair Spirits Tour
Holland House
Marche
Fido

What part of the city are you staying in?

late night cheap eats

Holeman & Finch is definitely on the itinerary, hopefully on the way back home if we're lucky.

late night cheap eats

We'll probably skip seafood since we're heading to Florida. Thank you for the rec anyways.

late night cheap eats

Thank you.

Menu looks perfect for a quick bite.

late night cheap eats

Thanks, but I'd prefer to skip awful waffle.

late night cheap eats

Driving through from Nashville, so that's 75s I believe.

Looks like Buford will take us around to 285, not sure if that will work or not.

late night cheap eats

11 and later. I'd be willing to go off distance by maybe 5 miles. I'd prefer to stay closer to the interstate if at all possible. Anything worthy open on Buford that late?

late night cheap eats

Hounds,

I’m driving through Atlanta on the way to Florida this Thursday night. I’m interested in any recs for cheap eats that would be open late night.

WILD SALMON

Whole Foods or The Fresh Market in Brentwood.

cheap eats West Palm Beach/Palm Beach Gardens

Hounds,

Can anyone offer up some recs for not to be missed cheap eats in the Palm Beach Gardens and or West Palm Beach area. I'll be staying on PGA Blvd if that helps at all.

Nice place to buy spirits in Nashville or Memphis

Midtown Wine & Spirits on Church in Nashville has the best selection in the area. There's also Frugal McDougal on the corner of 8th & Divison, their prices are probably the best in town. They also have a very large selection, but not quite the same as Midtown.

Nashville Sunday BUFFET brunches please.

The Sunday brunch buffet at Copper Kettle (downtown) imho can't be beat, one of the best deals in town. Although it's not a buffet, the brunch at Margot, and sister restaurant Marche are both fantastic. You could do much worse.

Nashville in June

Puckett's on 5th & church just a few blocks away sounds like it'll fit your needs. If you're cabbing it, try City House just a few miles north of downtown in the Germantown neighborhood. The food and cocktails can't be beat, but you won't find music there.

This Weekend in Nashville...

Again all great suggestions. I'd also recommend Merchants Restaurant downtown on the corner of 4th & Broadway. It's owned by the same guys that run The Patterson House. The cocktail menu is nowhere as extensive as PH, but there's still some interesting options there.

Looking for Nashville BBQ and down home Southern cooking-local flavor

The general recommendation on this board for southern cooking would be Arnold’s and Monells. I personally wouldn’t miss the opportunity to go to Arnold’s.
Martin’s bbq in Nolensville does a fantastic whole hug, but that’s usually reserved for the weekends. I’m a fan of Jack’s on West Trinity for pulled pork and brisket. They have ribs, but they’re more of the fall off the bone style.

Closer to Belmont in the 12th South area is Edley’s, they’re the latest addition to the bbq scene. They serve ribs for dinner only. We also have Stone House Q on the west side of town, along with Jim ‘N Nicks in that general area.

If you’re coming to Nashville, our local specialty is hot chicken. I would recommend trying Bolton’s on Main St or their new location on Murfreesboro & Thompson.

Authentic Mexican in Nashville

Usually on the weekends, they cook the al pastor on a spinning rotisserie like it's cooked traditionally in Mexico. I love their tortas which they serve with pickled veggies.

Authentic Mexican in Nashville

serious eats did a round of up of some of the Nashville taco trucks.

My favorite Mexican place would have to be El Tapatio on Nolensville close to the zoo. This is the place where the Mexicans go eat. They have a menu in English and Spanish and most of the servers speak enough English to help you out.

I've heard great things about the taco truck parked in the K&S lot on Nolensville...I've yet to try it myself.

La Hacienda serves barbacoa, goat, and menudo on the weekends if you're searching for that. Otherwise, the food is pretty standard generic Mexican.

San Luis on the corner of Harding & Linbar is another good choice. They're opening a second location on Nolensville right across the street from La Hacienda.

Last Minute Business Trip to Nashville - 1 day only!

You’re between 1st and 8th ave, you’ll have quite a bit of distance to cover should you choose to walk. Some notable stops along the way are the Country Music Hall of Fame on 5th & Demonbruen. That area has a lot of construction going on, so it might be tricky getting around by foot. You can also walk up 1st or 2nd avenue to Broadway and stop into Hatch Show Print or anyone of the honkey tonks depending on what time you go. Walk up to 4th avenue north and take a tour of The Ryman Auditorium, truly one of Nashville’s finest treasures.

Last Minute Business Trip to Nashville - 1 day only!

Ask the cab to take you to the Crema for a cappuccino and a danish, they're located on 1st ave just a click away from downtown. I would definitely do Arnold's for lunch. In fact, it's my number 1 recommendation for a downtown area lunch. In my opinion they’re the finest example of what a meat & three should be.

"A man's drink of choice , tells volumes of one's character"-- need help..

How about an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan.

Do you Yelp? (Moved from Kentucky & Tennessee board)

I Yelp on occasion, but I agree with some of GH1618's statement. I find that a lot of people’s food related reviews are the complete opposite of the same experiences I've had. There's a few opinions I trust, and that's not saying much.

Flanken Style Short ribs

I use this recipe when I'm in the mood for Korean bbq.

Ingredients
5 pounds Korean style beef short ribs*
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup mirin (rice wine)
1 small onion, peeled and finely grated
1 small Asian pear, peeled and finely grated
4 tablespoons minced garlic
2 tablespoons dark sesame oil
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 green onions, thinly sliced (optional)

Preparation:
Directions
Sprinkle brown sugar over beef and mix well to evenly coat. Let sit at room temperature for 10 minutes while preparing marinade. In a bowl, whisk together remaining ingredients. Transfer beef into a large sealable freezer bag (you may need 2). Add marinade, press out excess air from bags, and seal. Turn bag over several times to ensure beef is evenly coated. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours but preferably overnight.

Heat gas or charcoal grill to medium-hot. Drain excess marinade off beef. Grill short ribs, turning once, to desired doneness, about 3 to 4 minutes per side. Garnish with thinly sliced green onions, if desired. Serve whole pieces as a main course or cut into smaller pieces, using kitchen shears, for a starter or party nibble.

From Grill it with Bobby Flay.

Aguardiente Cristal for infusion

I use it to substitute for Herbsaint or Absinthe if I’m ever out of the two. I also enjoy it with a bit of orange juice for brunch.
