D'lish in Matawan

Thank you. Like Matawan really lacks pizza and pasta.

Siam Smiles Matawan NJ

My husband and I finally made it to Siam Smiles for dinner tonight. The food was absolutely delicious.

For appetizers we had the tofu tod and beef satay. We both enjoyed the appetizers especially the satay. I'm impressed the peanut sauce was so good, not sickeningly sweet like some Thai places that I went to in the city years ago. For the mains we had the pad thai and the crispy pork mildly spicy. Both dishes were excellent.

We will definitely be back again and try out the rest of the menu. I'm so glad there's a good Thai restaurant nearby.

Delicious Orchards Favorites?

I love their apple cider donuts, chocolate chip cookies, mushrooms and tomatoes.

RIP Stella d'Oro

That's really sad to hear. When I was a newlywed and lived in Riverdale, I loved the sweet smells while I was waiting for the subway at 231st Street in the mornings. It's a shame that I'll never get to smell that lovely scent again.

Is this method safe to make dulce de leche?

I'm extremely conflicted about trying a recipe for dulce de leche. I've read so many times that boiling a can of sweetened condensed milk for dulce de leche is perfectly safe, just as long as the can stays covered by the boiling water. I saw another recipe that recommended using a slow cooker for this.

I thought the can would explode if you do this. Would it work if I punctured vents into the top of the can and pour water till it reached the 3/4 way up the can and simmer it for the required 2 to 4 hours to reach the proper consistency.

Where to buy mochi

I went to Mitsuwa in Edgewater, NJ to do some shopping and I noticed I could not find any mochi. Is this a seasonal (fall/winter) item or can you get this year round? Any suggestions on where to get the stuff online would be appreciated also.

Wasabi House- Matawan?

That's great to hear. I had take out from the East Brunswick location and I was very impressed with the quality of the fish. I haven't been successful in getting my husband to take me there for dinner. At least the Matawan location is down the road from me (and way closer!).

chinese/chinese-americans: tell us about home cooking?

Oh man, I forgot about those soups made dried bok choy. I remember drinking that stuff on a weekly basis. I guess I must have blocked it out of my memory.

Sriracha Chili Sauce Condiment or Crack?!

I seriously love the stuff and I add Sriracha on pretty much everything I eat. I even converted my hot sauce hating husband into a Sriracha addict.

For the love of Magic Shell

I still love Magic Shell. I actually bought new bottle the other day when I was grocery shopping. I just love that crunchy, chocolaty shell on my ice cream. So it's bad for me but it tastes sooooo goooood.

D'lish in Matawan

Hey RGR,

You can say that again about mundane Italian restos in Matawan. Before D'Lish it used to be Mulberry St Foccacaria and as you guessed it, Italian resto. I was hoping it would be something different but I guess I was hoping too much. By the way, have you've or anyone been to Peter's Fishery that's across the street. I've been wanting to go but been very afraid to. Hubby and I love our seafood but are just worried about the "freshness" of the items. Sometimes packed parking lot doesn't say much about the quality of the food.

My Favorite Asian Things (in the Monmouth Co area)

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this thread! I moved into Aberdeen three years ago from Old Bridge and I had no clue how some of these restaurants are in my area especially West Lake Seafood. I've heard many glowing reviews but have been afraid to try. I've been going to Crown Palace in Marlboro for dim sum and dinner. I think I'll head over to West Lake this weekend for dim sum.
