Crazy to buy a 20 yo food processor on ebay?
I just broke part of my 25 yo Hamilton Beach food processor trying to make homeade laundry soap. Dumb. Really dumb. In looking at new processors, nothing grabs me. I can get my good old obviously well made processor for $25-35 on Ebay. Should I? If not, what brand and model do you recommend for under $100 preferably under $75. I use it a lot.
Seafood Dives in Virginia Beach & Wiliamsburg?
A.W. Shucks is in Norfolk but it's our go seafood place. It's divey and rustic. T I grew up in Va. Beach and now teach in Williamsburg, so I'm pretty familiar with the Hampton Roads seafood offerings.

I agree that all the Surfriders offer good seafood (great crabcakes), and Charlie's is certainly rustic, but I haven't eaten there in years. Waterman's in Va. Beach is on the water but is more of a faux Old Florida shack. We go there when we want to take someone to a Va. Beach restaurant, and we know they won't care that much about the food.
Oh! Just remembered a shack but it's in Smithfield--Captain Chuckamucks! Really fun place.

One meyer lemon tree dropping leaves
I have two meyer lemons--the expensive one is dropping ALL of its leaves. Less expensive one has plenty of leaves. Both have many flowers. Expensive one also has thorns.
I have moved them indoors now that it is cold in Virginia (Zone 8). Any ideas? I will not be happy if my $40 tree dies.

Keurig coffee gone bad?
The culprit turned out to be the "fat free" half and half that I had unwittingly been using! They need to color those cartons yellow and black or some other bad color combo, so I don't pick that stuff up.

My Keurig has worked fine for however long I've had it--6 months or more maybe?. Suddenly the coffee started tasting nasty. I descaled it once with some descaler powder and once with vinegar. It still tastes funny. Had never descaled it before, so perhaps I need to descale it several more times? Any other ideas?

Agreed--her recipes are foolproof. I'll go somewhere--Italy or a farmer's mkt in Afton, VA and have something amazing--say an orange cranberry scone or ribolitta. I'll come home and search all over for the recipe, and low and behold, the best version will be Ina's.

I'm thinking of having Oberweis dairy products delivered. Their milk and ice cream is wonderful.

If you can get your hands on some Oberweis ice cream...oh my. We get it at a little country store, but I think we are going to start home delivery of all Oberweis dairy products. We also like Trader Joe's super premium ice cream.
Norfolk Dinner Opinions?
Do we love Razzo or what? The fennel appetizer, the tiramasu, the white lasagne. We are so lucky to have Razzo. Kris-I'm with you on Todd Jurich's. Never been wowed by that place.

I'm betting it can be the principal ingredient in Mac and Cheese--isn't that what Kraft skinny blue box uses?
Why can't I cook seafood?
I sauteed some scallops that I bought at my local grocery store. They had been previously frozen. I go to a restaurant where they do cooking demonstrations, and the chef there said never to buy scallops that soak in that milky white stuff. It's gotten to the point where if I say we are having any kind of seafood everyone rolls his or her eyes. I will have to experiment when I'm cooking for myself.
Why can't I cook seafood?
No matter how hard I try, it tastes "too fishy." I know fish has a distinct flavor, but fish doesn't taste too fishy at say Bonefish. I give up.

Beefeater, what are you going to do about preventing future vole attacts? I think that's what got my lemonlets this year. Should I net my trees next year when I put them out?
3 dinners and 2 lunches left in LA--HELP!
My first two moderate priced picks were good (Taste) and average (Home). I need awesome for the last three as I'm not rushing back here any time soon. I have a reservation at The Foundry on Melrose for their Sunday price fixe dinner. Also have a reservation at Red O. Red O gets terrible service reviews, and Foundry is apparently not a "hot" restaurant anymore?? Should I cancel. I'm really interested in the West something or other Tavern and may try to get a reservation at Osteria Mozzo though we've eaten at many Mario spots in NYC.
I'd really like some great Mexican, ramen, and sushi though picky DH will only eat Mexican for dinner if he thinks it's "haute" Mexican. Why pay less when you can pay more right? We're staying at Renaissance Hollywood and we do have a car. Thought about going to Gardena for that ramen everyone here raves about, but don't think we can fit in that trek, so a rec close to us would be great.

Should I return my sauteuse pan?
It was on sale for 9.99 at Macy's. It doesn't have a lid. I have a dutch oven with a lid and a large stainless skillet, but I can't put the skillet in the oven b/c it has a plastic handle. What will I really use the sauteuse for?
Calling All Hampton Roads Chowhounds!
Not exactly a restaurant, but I just took a paella class at La Tienda in Williamsburg, and I highly recommend it. You learn to cook paella, eat all of it you want, and have a couple of glasses of sangria and tapas. If you haven't been to La Tienda, it is a beautiful store with the nicest people.
So you want to grow figs?
I ordered my LSU purple from Edible Landscaping. They are great. I want to go up there to try all the figs in August or so. Figs grow great down here in Zone 8 .

Comvection timing
It's a Maytag, and the manual is useless in terms of the convection directions. The automatic feature that the GE has sounds great. I need to check my manual and see if there is an 800 number.

when I googled Kosher in HR, I ended up with two ice cream parlors. How does one verify whether a restaurant is kosher? Please list any you know.
