"Celestin" - Any 'recent' experiences?

Agreed. It was good back in the day but is now terrible.

New restaurant called Midtown, on Eglinton, soft opening Fri Nov 8th

Oh yes...they will serve lunch and dinner as well as brunch on Saturday and Sunday.

New restaurant called Midtown, on Eglinton, soft opening Fri Nov 8th

As mentioned earlier by 'magic' in the 2013 Changes and Closings thread, Super Sweet Home on Eglinton has closed. A new restaurant called Midtown is opening in its place. The owner, Richard, described Midtown as a neighbourhood bistro that will serve favourites like steak, chicken, lamb, and burgers. The soft opening is this Friday, November 8th - the grand opening will follow 1-2 weeks later. Looking forward to checking it out soon!

Any news on these 3 potential new restaurant locations?

Thanks 'magic'...we keep hoping for some new, tasty, and more uptown-ish restaurants to open. Maybe in the new year.

Any news on these 3 potential new restaurant locations?

Was just wondering if anyone has heard anything about possible new restaurants going into the following locations...

1) previous Lai Toh Heen location on Mt. Pleasant
2) previous Autogrill location on Eglinton West
3) previous Didier location on Yonge at St. Clair

Thanks !

Former Centro/Vita Sociale

We went recently. Decent decor for what they are trying to portray. Service was fine (but pretty amateur). The main issue is that the food is just plain bland. No thanks...

Green Eggplant closed on Eglinton

Driving by it looks like Green Eggplant has closed on Eglinton. A sign with something like "Sweet Home" is up instead. Does anyone have any information on this new cafe or restaurant?

New restaurant @ Avenue Road/Eglinton: Darbar (Persian) - long

Thanks for the review. We have been awaiting their opening as well. Glad to hear it was good as Eglinton is severely lacking in decent resto's. We'll check it out when they have their liquor licence.

Just west on Eglinton there is another new restaurant "opening soon". It is called Doppio Zero. Don't know anything about it though...

Old school Italian

as there is a lot of discussion on Coppi in this thread... we have been going on and off for years (and went recently). since the reno we have been a few times. the food was quite good each time but the noise was a MAJOR problem. until that issue gets addressed i don't think we will be going back.

Celestin - Don't Go

Should have listened... have not been to Celestin for a few years since it changed ownership and went downhill. Tried it again just to see. Still a beautiful room. The food (and service)? Awful. Start to finish....

Celestin - Don't Go

Fat Cat was very good when it first opened but then went downhill. For the most part, Eglinton is a culinary wasteland I'm sad to say.

Celestin - Don't Go

Fat Cat has been closed (thankfully) for a few years. We also went to Celestin a few years ago and were very unimpressed. I keep looking at the menu and wondering whether to give it another go. Doesn't sound like a good idea from the above comments. We really like Simple Bistro on Mt. Pleasant. Also agree with Lai Toh Heen.

Toronto's Best Italian?!?

We were at Coppi recently. The more Italian restaurants we go to the more we appreciate Coppi. We had excellent service, wine recommendation, and food. We both agreed that we will be returning more often. We started with appetizer portions of home made pasta. One with rabbit ragout and the other with porcini mushrooms. The main course of baked red snapper encrusted in layers of sea salt was delicious.

Best restaurant to suggest to visitors in Vancouver for just one night?

Excellent - thank-you for your help ! We had not heard of Cioppinos in particular.

Mmmm three more menus to peruse - thank-you for your great ideas. The tram ride is also a fun idea that we have never tried before. This Vancouver Board is wonderful - thank-you all for your suggestions and help.

Thank-you for the noise factor detail. Guu w/ Garlic sounds tasty - but we would definitely prefer a quieter dinner spot to allow for easy conversation.

Best restaurant to suggest to visitors in Vancouver for just one night?

Thank-you for the ideas. We love Indian food and have read so many rave reviews about Vij's - so it is a strong contender. The Guu in Toronto is very popular, but we have never tried it - so for a Japanese evening, it would be ideal to try the magic of Guu in its hometown. We have bookmarked both restaurants. Thanks again for your help.

What would you recommend - any cuisine and any neighbourhood is fine.

2010 closings

Saw the brown paper in the windows while driving by - but no idea what is in store - will have to wait and see for now.

New and Coming Soon on Eglinton (Avenue Road to Bathurst)

Hotel Gelato - cafe with coffee and homemade sweets and gelato. Tasty chocolate caramel tarts and chocolate truffles. Thoughtful extra touches like two complimentary bite-sized cookies with each cappuccino.

A new restaurant is in the renovation stage at the old Fat Cat location. Fingers crossed for a tasty local bistro.

New LCBO opening soon across the street from the Tea Emporium.

Old Autogrill space is still showing "For Lease". Great space....but no takers yet.

2010 closings

Trillium on Avenue Road just north of Lawrence has closed. Sign in the window says something like "Cuscina Ristorante" is coming soon.

2010 closings

Autogrill on Eglinton and Fat Cat on Eglinton are closed.

What is happening to Fat Cat on Eglinton?

Looks like they are gone. A "For Lease" sign in the window...

What is happening to Fat Cat on Eglinton?

Sign posted in window said was due to re-open after "vacation" on Friday Aug 7. However, did not re-open Friday, Saturday, or Sunday....all is dark. Any confirmed news? It lacked diners for months even when previously open.
