Yellow Corn and also seeded watermelon in/around San Jose ?

We recently came from India to Santa Clara in California. Summer was just about getting over there. We went grocery shopping at quite a few stores (Safeway mostly, but also Whole Foods) and we saw a lot of corn and even watermelon. We were initially very happy as we loved eating both back home in India.

However, we were disappointed with the taste. I don't know why but the corn was too sweet for us and it was also of a different colour. We used to eat corn that was heated fresh on coals and then smeared with salt and lemon juice and eaten with relish. The corn here tastes different.

Also, the watermelon doesn't taste as intense as back home. Firstly I was surprised to see that the melon had very little seeds as I was used to big, black seeds in melons that had to be taken out before eating.

Is there any store where we can find those corns or melons ?
