Glogg/Glugg Mix in SD?

Mea culpa. I asked the DH, and he confirmed it was the bottled stuff we saw.

The Belly Up -- When Should I Be There?

Donny Darko would be proud, RB Hound.

Not sure why honkman would think Tears For Fears couldn't be classified as rock-star-status. These guys still pack 'em in. The concert is sold out.

Go early for a good seat, unless you've reserved something in the upper loft. I'd be there by 6pm for an 8pm show.

The food - to keep this "food related" - is okay, but there are better places close by. Enjoy the show - they put on a good one!

Prime Rib in San Diego

Yep - one of several.

The piano guy was good the night we went. Fun venue for a group dinner (we had 12).

Prime Rib in San Diego

I can tell you it gets busy on Saturday nights! Between the piano bar and the diners, it was fairly packed when we were there last month. Very old school, including the racy paintings in the bar. ;)

Prime Rib in San Diego

DD, the last time we ate at Bully's, we swore we wouldn't go back for prime rib. The prime rib bits at the bar, yes, but we were very disappointed with the prime rib itself. Mind you, it's been about 4 years since we were last there, and it could have been a bad night for them.

Love them for happy hour, but probably won't go back for a meal.

Prime Rib in San Diego

Ever since the DH started smoking meat at home, nothing from a restaurant quite measures up to his prime rib roast. However, Red Tracton's does a pretty good job.

Albie's is good. We were just there last month, and it's about $25.00 for the prime rib.

Now we'll have to try Fiddler's!

Stew. Daube. Hearty Soups. Chili con Carne (not ramen or pho)

We get the Manhattan clam chowder to go every now and then. It's kind of a cold weather (thus the 'now and then') tradition in our family. Oyster crackers - oh, yeah.

Vintana Wine + Dine (Escondido) patio "small plates"

I met friends here last Friday - we were there for the band - and I must say the venue is much nicer than I expected. Someone said the view is better than you think, and they're absolutely correct. And again, I can't say enough about the service at Cohn restaurants. Their food is not swoon-worthy, but my experience is that they're consistent. Valet parking is complimentary. A very nice patio for drinks and apps at sunset.

Who's familiar with 'old' San Diego restaurants?

La Bella's has changed, but mostly to accommodate the newer diners. I think the restaurant will always be "family-oriented", but it stands to reason they would do their best to bring in a broader customer base. You don't stick around for nearly 60 years without, for lack of better terms, staying relevant.

That said, I was there was late last year, and the pizza is just as good as it's always been.

Who's familiar with 'old' San Diego restaurants?

Lindy, have you tried Alforon for Lebanese? Almost in La Mesa - very close - and the food is very good.

Also, there are a couple of places in El Cajon: Alibaba and Sahara. I've never been disappointed with either restaurant.

Can $3M food hall rival Pike Place?

True, Cathy, and once Rock Church started up there, it pretty much meant Liberty Station was 'never on Sunday' for me because of traffic. All the events I've worked or gone to have been on Saturdays, and when I go to shop or dine, it's during the week. The good Doctor has a solution, I see, but being 20+ miles out, I'm still going to avoid Sundays.

It will be interesting to see this unfold. Liberty Station already has a fair amount of draw for tourists and locals alike, and the location is great. I'm pretty sure they'd be busy on the weekends, not only because of the church (10K...really?!), but because of all the events that are held near the water.

Can $3M food hall rival Pike Place?

Me neither. Meeting friends for dinner, especially on a Friday night or weekend, it's sometimes the choice because parking isn't an issue! However, it can get tight on the south side if there are several events going on. The key is knowing all your parking options, alternate entrances (crucial during the worst traffic moments on Rosecrans), and what part of LS you're visiting.

Catt runs the PB, North Park, and Fisherman's Market, as well as Little Italy. Yeah, she'll be fine.

Can $3M food hall rival Pike Place?

Exactly. I'll go if I'm in the area - and I'm there about every other week - but I doubt I'd make a special trip just for the food hall.

San Diego Public Market - RIP?

I remember that one. We used to go over there for lunch sometimes. How long has the one on Imperial been there? Maybe that's where they moved to, once all the construction started.

San Diego Public Market

It's official: the project is off. A Kickstarter backer's letter was sent out today, and the gist was they could not come to terms with the property owner. I'm not sure if it's okay to publish the entire contents of the letter here, so I'll leave it at that. They did many wonderful things for the community while they were open, though it never really got off the ground. I wish Catt and Dale well.

Yes, it was. There was one in Mission Valley where Lazy Dog Cafe is now. I remember going there in the late 90's.

Deep dish pizza

Kudos to you if you can finish a deep dish pizza while in the car! The one from Berkeley definitely required a knife and fork.

Deep dish pizza

To confirm an old "I think" statement, yes, Berkeley Pizza does sell take-and-bake pizzas at the Little Italy Farmers' Market. I'm not a huge fan of deep dish, but the DH is. Years ago, when we were dating, Chicago Brothers pizza was a regular stop. Anyway, I picked up a sausage pizza from the market on Saturday, baked it last night, and it was good. Okay, if you ask him, it was great, and he'd definitely love to have it again.

How cool - it's like a ride in the way-back machine! I remember going to Su Casa and thinking, "this isn't Mexican food". And, good lord - Caravaggio's??!
