40th Birthday HELP! Have I left it too late!?!
That's really helpful, thank you. I think maybe Sat brunch here will be great, I have a feeling that a hefty bloody Mary prior to a lot of travelling may make the journey pass quicker, as we leave for UK Sunday pm. May have to queue at Mamas. Dammit!

She/we love sushi, sadly we don't get enough of the good stuff where we live. This is a vacation indulgence. I'm slotting it on the list, prob for Thurs . I like to surprise the better half with little treats like this, lined up, but seemingly a random stop. She loves it!

Senor Popusa you are my hero. I think we have a winner in Murray Circle. I love the setting which is Stunning, the bar for per/post meal beverages, and the chef's tasting menu for great seasonal fair fits the bill++ I'm on open table now. Wish me luck!

I like the family feel of this place, and the location is good. We like Castro-'Mrs R' was the first lady in the bathroom in years at a bar there in a previous visit!

Very kind grayelf! Have read that canteen sits in two seatings. I think we'd go for a non table turning resto for "the" night. Can't seem to access canteen web site at present, so will keep trying, but do they do a brunchtime bloody mary or mimosa etc?

Hi Chowhounds! So glad I've found you!
I'm a brit foodie leaving in a week for the trip of a lifetime in your fair country. In all the prep I've neglected the finale. My lady and I are road tripping from Vegas to the coast, then up (briefly) to Napa then finishing with four days in San Francisco. (The excuse is my 40th)
After this adventure I really want to top it off with something memorable. Our last night is a Sat and my birthday. I see chowhounds like specifics, and a challenge, so here goes. We are open to suggestions, and would love to report back after.
I'm the foodie, but I want this to be about her, she means the world to me and is a very special and beautiful person (trust me). She eats most things, not a big red meat fan (though I am), not up for overly spicy food (though I love it! Tayyabs rules!!Its a London thing-on your board so check it out). She loves sushi and shellfish. We may go on after, not sure what will be nearby.
Looking for a non chain, non "name" restaurant with atmosphere accepts (nice) jeans, uses fresh seasonal ingredients. I firmly believe good food is where you find it, so a dive bar with a band may be as perfect as a family owned neighbourhood shack on a backstreet. Have had the treat of Ramsey's in Chelsea (Great Boss!) so not looking for too high end, but "nice" not to rushed, some wine and friendly service.
Have considered Foreign Cinema, but not sure I want to be distracted by the Screen, though I like the ambiance, Slanted door we'll lunch at, we may also Great Eastern on Friday night. Thinking Hayes Street Grill sounds good.
I know Chowhounds HATE repeat posts so I've been trawling for ages, yet can't find IT.
I hope you can help, and I hope I can get reservations this close (for 29th August).
Also need killer brunch to send us off, but can't do queueing for hours, thinking of Canteen. We're staying at the Hotel Rex.
Thanks in advance.
