Substitute for Nut Tree in Vacaville

We will be in California in May and want to meet some friends midway between San Francisco and Sacramento. In the old days our automatic choice would have been the Nut Tree in Vacaville. Alas, it is no more. What are some good places mid way between these two cities?

San Antonio - Terrill Hills Area

Just returned from our trip and did, in fact, have burgers at Chesters. Turns out it is one of my grandson's favorite places. Well deserving of his and your praise. We also had a very elegant meal at Silo.

San Antonio - Terrill Hills Area

Looking for good Chinese, Mexican burgers, steaks and breakfast places that are in or near the area of Terrill Hills/ New Braunfels Avenue. Nothing ultra fancy or expensive, just good eats.

Ideas?

Nice Lunch in Windsor, CT area on Labor Day

This sounds very special and I'll definitely give it a try. Thanks very much.

Nice Lunch in Windsor, CT area on Labor Day

I'll see if they have websites and will call to see if they're open on Labor Day. Appreciate your response.

Nice Lunch in Windsor, CT area on Labor Day

Trying to find a nice place that'll be open for lunch on Labor Day in the Windsor, CT area. I posted several months ago asking for suggestions for our family reunion-- mostly senior citizens, about 12 of us. The two places recommended: Nutmeg and Mill on the River looked PERFECT, but unfortunately neither will be open on Labor Day. Any other ideas? We'd prefer something quiet sans small kids. American cuisine - steaks and/or pasta, and seafood would probably work best. But also interested in Chinese or Italian if there's someplace that will fill the bill. Thank you in advance Connecticut Chowhounds!

A day and a half in Albuquerque

You've already received lots of useful information, but I'll throw in my two cents too. . .

While La Quiche Parisienne is a great little place to pick up a nice breakfast downtown, they are closed both Saturday and Sunday when you'll be in town.

Our favorite two places for a Mexican Sunday brunch/breakfast are Vic's Daily Cafe, 3600 Osuna, NE 505-3441-9710, or Casa de Benavidez, 8032 4th Street, NW, 505-898-3311. Neither are close to Old Town, but easy enough to get to since Sunday traffic is light.

Our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner is Monroe's. We usually go to the one on Osuna, NE, but if you're staying in Old Town, you'll be far closer to the one at 1520 Lomas Blvd., NW. 505-242-1111.

If you're thinking about a picnic, keep in mind it's still very warm here midday (at least in the high 80s if not mid 90s) so unless you are lucky enough to find a table under a tree providing shade it's kinda' uncomfortable eating outside for lunch, in my opinion.

Hope my input helps, and hope that you have a wonderful trip.

Sorry to say Yen Ching folded in late December of 2011. We are still looking for a good substitute.

Hartford Family Reunion

Thank you for your helpful reply.

I will definitely look at the Mill on the River website.

I think ADA laws require all public places provide a ramp nowadays, so we should be OK. None of us are in a wheelchair (yet!) but sometimes it's nice to make use of a ramp nonetheless.

Hartford Family Reunion

Looked at their website and menu, and it looks very nice indeed. It will definitely be on my "short list"! Thanks again for being so helpful.

Hartford Family Reunion

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll pull up their menu,

To clarify on two things that I didn't make very clear: I meant any of the types of cuisine mentioned would be OK, not that one restaurant had to serve all the items mentioned, And as for attire, I meant a place where the men don't have to wear a jacket and tie. Sorry for any confusion I caused by not being clearer.

Hartford Family Reunion

Would love suggestions for a nice place to have a family reunion dinner. There will be 12 of us - all adults, and mostly senior citizens, so a quiet venue with easy access parking for the handicapped would be preferable. Moderately expensive OK as long as we don't have to dress up. Steaks, prime rib, Italian, seafood our main preference. Would prefer a place near the airport, but willing to drive downtown or to other areas if necessary.

All You Can Eat Shrimp in Charleston, SC

Looking for a place in Charleston that serves all-you-can-eat boiled shrimp with cocktail sauce. Was last there 25 years ago and such places existed then; I hope they still do now.

Also, any suggestions for steak, Italian, southern or Chinese that are quiet, serve good food where casual dress is acceptable. We don't want to bring along a dressy wardrobe for this trip. Thanks so much!

Miami - South of Airport Zip 33126

Thanks for your advice. We'll be near Lake Mahar-- NW 67th Avenue area if that brings any additional places to mind. How far would the places you named be from there?

New Mexico, Thanksgiving week 2009

I senond the nominations for Season's Rotisserie & Grill, 2031 Mountain Road, NW, 505-766-5100 and Antiquity Restaurant, 112 Romero Street, NW, 505-247-3545. You will definitely need reservations for the latter as it's very small, and it wouldn't hurt to call ahead on the former either.

Miami - South of Airport Zip 33126

Will be at a convention in early December in the Miami south airport area--- near SW 7th Street and 836. Will have a rental car but prefer not to drive too far-- certainly not all the way downtown-- for some good eats. Especially like steaks, Italian, barbecue or plain ol' American cooking done right. Any ideas for us?

Macon, GA Suggestions?

Will be in Macon for five days in January. Can you direct us to the best places? We love steaks and Italian in particular, but I'm sure there must be great BBQ and southern cooking places we should try too.

Pecan Pie in New Mexico? Also, wine/alcohol question?

Savory Fare Restaurant on Montgomery Blvd. in Albuquerque makes wonderful pecan pie. They don't carry it every day however. If you wanted to order a whole pie, I'm sure you could call ahead and order one. If you just want a slice, you'd need to take your chances they had one available that day.

Cheese, Chocolate & Wine Stores in ABQ, SF & Taos?

Agree with previous suggestions of Whole Foods, Quarter's and Kelly's for wine. Whole Foods also has an excellent cheese section. I strongly disagree with the Theobroma Chocolate suggestion. Their stuff is like wax. See's has a store in Coronado Mall which is my favorite. Not familiar with Armour or Enchantment. Candy Lady is so-so,

Pittsfield, MA Chinese, steaks, burgers and Italian

Wow! Thanks so much for the tip. Sounds great.

Pittsfield, MA Chinese, steaks, burgers and Italian

I should have mentioned French, it is one of my husband's favorite cuisines. BRIX definitely sounds like one we should try. Thanks!

Extremely helpful. Thank you!

searching for whereabouts of "L&V" little mex. take-out in Albuquerque from early 70's..??

We moved to Albuquerque in 1970 and unfortunately I never heard of this place-- it sounds wonderful!

I can tell you tha two of our current favorite Mexican places here are Padilla's Mexican Kitchen at 1510 Girard, NE, just south of Indian School Road. Unfortunately it's not open on the weekends. The other is Monroe's Restaurant which has two locations. One's near old town/downtown at 1520 Lomas Blvd., NW and the other is in the heights at 6051 Osuna NE, between San Mateo and San Pedro. You might try them and see if they come close.

Pittsfield, MA Chinese, steaks, burgers and Italian

Haven't been to the Berkshires in quite awhile. We are seniors and like more exciting fare than Applebee's and Bennigan's can provide. What can you suggest for us in the way of good steaks, Chinese, Italian and burgers? Don't mind splurging occasionally, but generally prefer moderate prices. (Liquor is not important.) Know there are great places in Lenox, Lee, Stockbridge, etc for the Tanglewood crowd, but would prefer to know of places right in Pittsfield.
