Fresh seafood in Norfolk/Virginia Beach area?

I prefer Bubba's or Chix Beach to Dockside for sitting on the water with fresh seafood (as long as you're prepared for the wait!). One Fish Two Fish is great for a nicer meal. Lastly, the while I wouldn't recommend much at Catch 31, their seafood tower is one of the best meals in Hampton Roads. If you're in Norfolk, try A.W. Shucks for oysters and great fish and chips.

Here's What We've Picked for 1st Trip to Nag's Head

Mama Kwans and Tortugas are not similar. Be aware that it's hard to get into Tortugas because it's small. I've always liked the Brew Station for lunch or dinner. Also try Miller's on the sounds for lunch (haven't been there for dinner). Kelly's is also good. Renditions is also a good new restaurant at MP 4 on the bypass. If you're cooking at your place, make sure to hit Austin's (MP 14 or so) for awesome local seafood.

BBQ Fish--Does it exist?

I had bbq tuna (they call it tuna-que) at Pigman's on the Outer Banks. It may have just been tuna chunks tossed with bbq sauce, but I kind of liked it. Caveat: my wife and father-in-law did not.

Calling All Hampton Roads Chowhounds!

I second La Bella. I believe the four-course is now being offered more than Mon-Thur, but I'm not positive. As for Freemason, I've always thought it was overrated. IMO, since we're in Hampton Roads, enjoy the great oysters, crab, and local fish. Lobster is just going to be overpriced.

Go to Steinhilber's for pasta or the fried shrimp on Saturday. Quiet and older crowd but the food is good. I think the Club Room (right name?) in Founder's Inn is better than Swan Terrace, and would probably be better with kids.

If you liked the Boot, try Green Onion on Colley. Excellent food. The chef also apparently has opened a new restaurant, 37th and Zen on Hampton and 37th (obviously). Our friends went and said it's more like a lounge with good appetizers.

Last 25 days in Richmond, VA

Steak at The Tobacco Company. Pizza at Bottoms Up. If your liver can take it, get a room at the Hospitality House in Williamsburg and try to walk the bar at The Greene Leafe across the street. You have to drink a pint of every bar on draft (around 40?). Take all day and get the Monte Cristo. Go to Paul's the next day for a hot Holly and loaded cheese fries for your hangover, then get bread ends and house dressing at the Cheese Shop in Colonial Williamsburg on the way out.

Virginia Beach - Help needed

Catch 31 in the Hilton on 31st Street is very good, although you'll be looking at a 60-90 minute wait because they don't take reservations during the summer. Get the seafood tower for two if you like seafood. Mahi Mah's down around 5th Street is good for lunch if you can sit outside on the beach, but I think it's overpriced for dinner. Since you'll have a car, I'd recommend getting away from the Oceanfront. My favorite restaurant in the Beach is One Fish Two Fish. Lively atmosphere and nice view. Try the calamari or tuna tataki. Lynnhaven Fish House is a more traditonal restaurant and has a great fish selection (obviously). Cobalt Grille at Hilltop is also very good. Hilltop is also where No Frill is located, and that's good for sandwiches (and you definitely can't walk there!). Last, try Beach Bully on 17th St for really good barbeque. You have to drive, but it's still close.
