after looking on midtownlunch.com i read about "Kiku"...reviews on yelp are pretty negative though and reviews on this website are from 2007...has anyone been there recently who can comment ?

Great Italian in Astoria

Last nite we had a lovely dinner at Carra Bella, on 47th st and 30th avenue.
We tried a salad with beets and mozzarella, crab cakes, and calamri as starts. We tried a pasta dish with mushrooms and a pasta dish with meat sauce. Everything was excellent..pasta is homemade. And we also had gelato for dessert, which they make in house. Total came to 130 for 4 people, which was fair as we also each had one glass of wine. We'll def be back there again...

Gimmicky restaurant for 20th Birthday

a few people mentioned Lips, which is a lot of fun, though most women are there for their bachelorette party...
another place i really like is Trailor Park. the food is casual but the decor is fun, and they have great sweet potato fries :)

French for a Francophile

yes, there was just an article about la grenouille in the nytimes

NEED A RESTAURANT RECO FOR 2 FOODIES NEAR RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL

how about avra estiatorio? its greek--they have great seafood! its on 48th b/w 3rd and lex so a few blocks to walk afterwards, to digest

Manhattan's most expensive cup of coffee?

we had coffee once at the Pierre, i cant remember how much it was but i remember it bering really ridiculous.

Good and not too pricy- Extra Virgin Olive Oil ?

im a little biased but i think the greek olive oil is the best ... its the only oil we ever cook with. specifically Spitiko. if you go the gourmet route it seems the choices are endless with different 'infused' oils, but for cooking i think just plan evoo is the best :)

RW Plan & Attack

im so jealous you got convivo, i was trying to make a reservation there for sunday nite during RW but they were booked. I also made a reservation at the Post House which is supposed to be a good steakhouse with more on the menu than just steak ..

i sympathize with not being able to do lunch--wish i could go to bar/cafe boulud !

anywhere else youre considering ?

Soho Breakfast

i really liked spring street natural, havent been for a while but i remember the food was good and it was pretty reasonable.

Nougatine

i have never made it there for dinner, but i have enjoyed several lunches there. Service has always been great, and they have a very, very reasonable prix fixe lunch menu.

Suggestions for a 16 yr old and her friends in Manhattan - not a chain

i think the modern bar room is a great place...the food is really amazing and its also a cool space (with great cocktails for the adults !)

butter or po ? what about park avenue winter ?

hellooo.
so im reposting this because mis-titled the original post.

anyways, i made reservations for park avenue post for restaurant week dinner...how has everyones experience there been ?

and i also made a reservation for lunch at po and butter -- which of the 2 do you think is worth keeping ? i havent been to either and their RW menus arent online (yet)

any other suggestions for great RW menus ? id love to try lupa but they only have weekday lunch, same with bar/cafe boulud

suggestions ?

hey everyone,
so im torn between these places, has anyone tried their RW menu before?
Butter
Breslin (looks like lunch only)
Firebird
Park Avenue Winter

thanks !

What are YOUR 9th Avenue favorites?

i realy like brunch at eatery..tried vinyl recently and was less than impressed (dinner). also i dont know what the obsession is with uncle nicks..i dont think its a good representation of greek food. theres a turkish place next to poseidon bakery thats pretty good (i think its Turkish Cusine)

Fun dinner for girls nite out -- south american ?

hello everyone,
some friends and I are looking for a fun place for a sat nite dinner--we would like to try something different, maybe chilean ? price isnt a huge issue as long as its not ridiculous. any location is ok. basically we want a fun atmosphere, great drinks, and good food ...not too much to ask, right? :)

Tasty Meals for $5 or Much Less

how about caracas arepas? arepas are abt $6 and they have a lunch special: arepa and soup or salad for $7

pre- or post-Cloisters recommendation

i thought id reply to this since i went to the cloisters yesterday and then went to new leaf for brunch afterwards. i thought for 18.99 there would be more food, or at least more than 1 course. you had a pretty decent choice (i had duck confit with poached eggs and cheese grits) but it only came with coffee and a small gladd of OJ. I guess if I spending almost $20 for brunch I would think it would at least be 2 courses....not even a bread basket ! (muffin / bread basket was extra 8 or 9). Anyways, its a nice restaurant, great atmosphere but food wise I dont think its worth the $$.

Looking for Frozen Tart Red Cherries

hey,
i couldnt find these either..i ended up buying the tart cherries in a jar. i found them at trade fair in the russian/eastern european section. worked great.

awful awful awful dinner at l'absinthe

erica, not the cassoulet wasnt on the menu...

i did call the manager, and he was very nice. he apologized, and invited us to come back again and give them another chance. he said he would speak to this particular server about 'attitude'. Maybe this was a fluke..we had never been before so we cant really compare.

awful awful awful dinner at l'absinthe

ok so i had heard that l'absinthe was extending their RW menu (actually at the bargain price of $30.06) so my three friends and i went last nite...huge mistake.
at first our server was all smiles...until we realized that the special menu was not included with the regular menu. the second we asked for the RW everthing changes. He handed them to us and took our orders with serious attitude.
the food was terrible--(appetizers had three choices: pate, fish soup, salad and something else, main course: pike in lobster broth, hanger steak, pizette, and some other fish, dessert: madelaines, profiteroles, orange creme, and mango tartin)
I had the soup (ok at best) and the hanger steak (not bad but i think the mashed potatos were from a box) and the mago tartin (so awful i couldnt eat it)
But that was fine, i dont hold the server responsible for the menu. But he was so rude with us---basically throwing the dishes on the table, sneering at us when he asked if we wanted more wine.....and if he was that way with all his tables, again, i would excuse it. But we saw him at the other tables, where diners were ordering off the regular menu, and he was a different person. He was joking with them, explaining the dishes, bringing them bread and butter before the meal (we had to ask, and then had to ask again for butter !)
It was just awful, awful, awful (see subject of post). Im so disappointed Im actually thinking about calling and speaking with the manager. Which I have never done.
I get that he was expecting to make more from a bigger bill, but honestly we wanted to check this place out, and if we liked it we would have come again and ordered from the regular menu. We had a great RW experience at the Modern (bar room), and I would happily pay normal prices to eat there again. It was a nite and day difference.
Sorry for the long post, but I just wanted to warn anyone else who wanted to take advantage of their special...dont.

Has any been to 'labsinthe ?

no, i didnt catch that..good to know though ! i searched for reviews on this site but didnt find much..just wanted to make sure it still has great french food :)

Has any been to 'labsinthe ?

My friends and I are going tonight, any recommendations?
I saw that their restaurant week menu was extended through the end of Feb...
Thanks !
