Pepe's is coming to Danbury, CT

OK, I have to chime in. Why has no one mentioned Stanziato, in Danbury, on this thread? It is FABULOUS pizza, and the folks there are so friendly. They are SERIOUS about their ingredients and their pies. We have loved every bite of food we've had there!
Check out Michael Stern's review...

Danbury CT, hipster food lover's paradise?

Hey! What about Stanziato's? In my opinion, amazing, artisanal pizza is pretty up there on the cool meter as well!

Sorry to be ignorant, but can you tell me what Nardelli's is? Never heard of it.

Does anyone know what else is going in next to Whole Foods?

I am just so grateful that we will be able to get real bread and fresh fish within 2 minutes of home. YIPPEE!

Christmas in Vienna

I'll be there as well. Have booked 12/25 meal at the restaurant of the Hotel Stefanie, the Kronprinz Rudolf. I am sure it will be quite festive, with genuine food. Many good places are open between Christmas and new Years. have reserved at the Meierei (related to Steirereck), which has a website. For something more "down home," look at Rudi's Beisl or Beim Czaak. There are loads of great, local meals to be had during this season.

Berlin - good and fairly cheap, and/or interesting eats?

We returned from Berlin 2 days ago. Enjoyed several places described on previous posts, as well as a restaurant called Kuchen Kaiser, filled with neighborhood folks, mainly locals, at Oranienplatz, easy to reach by bus. Prices were very fair, for example 9 Euros for a generous, homestyle Sauerbraten with very good red cabbage/apple and excellent mashed potatoes. The pllace had many sorts of food and a very good vibe. We liked our meal at Schneeweiss, but it's not a cheapie; try it for breakfast, though, for a non-budget buster. Check out their web site. Henne was a one-of-a-kind place, very gemuetlich, but you have to love chicken, as that's the sole entree offering. It was fun, though, and the chicken great. It's about one minute from Kuchen Kaiser, which we discovered en route to dinner at Henne. FYI, you'd need to reserve for Henne or Schneeweiss.

Foodies' Berlin 25.12-01.01

Thanks. I am following up on most of your ideas. Can you enlighten me about the smoking situation these days? The reports I read are very contradictory.

If you DO happen to come up with a Spandau idea, please let me know.

Vielen Dank.

Foodies' Berlin 25.12-01.01

We have been to Berlin several times and would be very comfortable traveling around on the u-Bahn for some interesting/fun foodie experiences. We are not looking for haute cuisine and do not want to try Mexican , Thai, or Indian. We'll be having enormous buffet breakfasts, so we won't be doing lunches, which of course are a great deal financially.

By "interesting" I don't mean eating in the dark or hanging from a ceiling basket. I AM looking for out of the way, smaller, slow food, or unusual places with regional cooking. My parents were from Vienna and Berlin, and I am partial to German, Austrian, Italian, and Alpine food, with a fondness for really good bread and pastries. We both like a well-prepared flammkuchen. We have tried Cafe Aroma (great local atmosphere) and Nola's am Weinberg. After a few days in Berlin, I usually crave a crunchy salad. Recommendations could range from a good pizza to schnitzel or goulasch. Nothing too nouvelle, with a lot of drizzle or architecture involved.

Is goose available anywhere after November is over?

Any ideas for Christmas evening itself? I tried a jolly-sounding/semi-kitsch place with serious food listed online in a Winterzauber promotion, but they are closed for the week of Christmas and New Year.

I have read reviews on tip as well as a few blogs, but am now overwhelmed by recommendations for spare ribs, pad thai etc.

What is the word on Ming Dynastie, across from the Chinese Embassy?

We enjoy indoor and outdoor markets and would be happy to buy bits and pieces from markets and shops and have a few "picnics" in our hotel, which by the way is in Mitte. We have "done" the KaDeWe thing and are ready to move on.

Finally, any good ideas in Spandau? I think we'll venture to the Altstadt and castle there, for something new.

I SO appreciate any help from those in the know!!! Vielen Dank!!!

Thanksgiving restaurant dinner for 24????

I am looking for an interesting yet child-friendly restaurant for a group of 24. There are many food and wine lovers in the group, which includes young folks through world-travelling grandparents. No cuisine is out. Price cannot be sky-high, but this doesn't need to be a bargain basement meal, either. This is, admittedly, a huge group. Help with thinking outside the box would be appreciated.
