leonardo's in rhinebeck - opinions?

Wow, gspeed, we don't agree on much. Salvatores serves the absolute worst pizza in the area. All the pizza in Red Hook is lousy. I trek down to Francesca's in Rhinebeck for pie. But, each person has their own taste, as long as you like it, I'm happy...

Rhinebeck: Le Petit Bistro

Heavy?? Boring?? What restaurant are you eating at? If you consider this food heavy, you must not eat out much. Boring? Bistro food is simple, not to be confused with boring. If you want excitement, go to New World Home Cooking over the river. It won't be edible, but it will be EXCITING!

Rhinecliff Hotel near Rhinebeck

Yeah, the food isn't bad, but the service is just horrible. I've been there three times, and all three times the service was consistent. One night, we were the only table in the house, and the service was painfully slow and not at all attentive. On a diffferent trip for brunch, we sat there for (this is no joke) over 20 minutes before someone stopped by to ask if we wanted anything. That was after we flagged down a few people to ask them for service. After the server finally came to check us out, it just got slower from there.

I really wish this place would work out. It would be nice to have another alternative in the area. I'll check it out again sometime to see if they have improved, but right now, its a big thumbs-down....

Sports Bar (or the like) in Rhinebeck ?

Personally, I would avoid Terrapin. Lousy food, inept bartending, unprofessional service. For what you are looking for, 00 Grill is a much better choice. Actually, for any purpose, 00 Grill is better than Terrapin. A box lunch is better than Terrapin. Hunger and thirst are better than Terrapin...

Just sayin...

elephant wine bar - kingston, ny - wow!

This place is a gem. Where else can you enjoy chorizo and chocolate, excellent terrines, and beef heart on crostini? The food is all terrific, the wine list is well selected and fairly priced. A comfy, unpretentious place where a woman in shorts and flipflops or a man in a jacket can feel welcome.

GO!

Hyde Park / Rhinebeck

Yikes, I've heard and read too many bad things about Mohonk food to ever go there. I'm happy you got a good meal there, but several people whose opinion I trust have downright awful things to say about it.

Hyde Park / Rhinebeck

I will echo Clambelly's sentiment and tell you to avoid New World, for the same reasons. I will argue that Gigi is not the best restaurant in Rhinebeck. It is very good, no doubt, but I like Arielle and le Petit Bistro better. AVOID Terrapin. Yes, its a beautiful place, but the service is a joke, and the food is even worse. Inedible at times.

Better than all these suggestions is Mercato Tivolio, in Red Hook. Authentic trattoria fare from local ingredients, EXCELLENT wine list with very good prices. A no-brainer. I'll also second Madalin, which provides a very nice experience...

Bagels in Northern Dutchess...HELP!

Ah, Kingston is well within the range I will drive. Thanks for the rec!

Any others? Please don't say the bagel shoppe in Red Hook...lol

Bagels in Northern Dutchess...HELP!

I moved to northern Dutchess County from NNJ around four years ago. While I don't regret my move one bit, I do miss the bagels. Has anyone up here found a decent bagel shop?? I live in Red Hook, but I'd drive for a good one...

Montgomery Orchards Farm Stand-Red Hook (Dutchess County), NY

This place is one of the reasons I moved to Red Hook. They have apples you just cant find anywhere else. For pies and cider, a nice variety is essential. She also has a bunch of delicious summer fruit, peaches, apricots, pluots, etc. A true gem, much worth the drive for people who don't live 2 miles away like me...hehe

leonardo's in rhinebeck - opinions?

I havent eaten any of their prepared foods, but I do go there all the time for other stuff. To put it simply, its hit or miss. Sometimes they slice the prosciutto just right, sometimes its too thick. I've had their olives that turned out to be dry and starting to shrivel, and other times where they are plump and fantastic. The youngsters that work there seem like they care, but I dont think there is enough training. Also, their "famous" spumoni is absolutely horrible, avoid it. Their sausages are terrific, as is their salume.

Hope you enjoy.

Woodstock / Saugerties / Kingston - tired of my standbys. Any suggestions?

Mercato is definately worth the trip over the bridge...

Restaurant at Rhinecliff Hotel

What exactly are you referring to Sam, it isn't entirely clear from your post. Thanks

Asian other than China Rose and Araing in Rhinebeck/Red Hook area????

You're right, China Rose is very overrated. I've taken home food from Golden Wok, it's surprisingly not bad. For a sit down experience, I remember enjoying that Panda place in Rhinebeck, though it seems highly Americanized....

I would be interested to hear the best Asian in the area also...

Mima Vinoteca - Irvington, NY

I usually stick with fish or pasta for my main course. I've never been disappointed...The only thing I ever ordered that I didnt get excited about was a veal dish. I dont know why i even ordered it, since I dont care for veal...

Mima Vinoteca - Irvington, NY

I've been to Mima numerous times in the past several months. Every meal has been really terrific. There is an excellent wine list, fantastic salumi, and great pasta dishes. In my opinion, what a great enoteca should be...

I think I could live on wine and salumi...

Mercato in Red Hook, NY

I ate there last night. Another fantastic meal. Prosciutto with figs and arugala to start, followed by fantastic risotto with minted lamb ragu. It's really the perfect restaurant, great food, fun atmosphere, excellent wine.

Anniversary Rec in Hudson Valley?

Le Petit Bistro in Rhinebeck does an excellent job with fish, especially when ordered off the specials menu. Mercato in Red Hook has a very nice selection of pasta (mostly all homemade), as well as seafood and local chicken. An excellent choice with a very fun atmosphere.

Mercato in Red Hook, NY

The regular menu changes nearly everyday, with some dishes kept on and others replaced. I also had this gnocchi dish, and it was fantastic. I can't remember the last time I had a lousy meal at Mercato. Good thing I live 2 miles away....

Terrapin in Rhinebeck and Bear Cafe in Bearsville (Woodstock)

Its funny that you mention "sweet" several times in discussing Terrapin, as I think all of their food is too sweet. I used to go, hoping each time it would be better. It never was. I'll stick to better restaurants in the area....
