Favorite Italian in the Triangle?

Hey all, I've been here in the triangle for a little over a year, and I'm still trying to find any Italian restaurants that can equal what I was used to up in NYC. Il Palio has been great, but is a bit pricey for me. 411 West has disappointed me too many times to go back. Anyone have other suggestions? I am not really looking for fusion styles, but more traditional. Thanks!

It is sad to hear that about Sitar, I loved them in the old spot across the street, but haven't visited them in their new location. I'll hope that it was just growing pains of making the move and try them again.

Tonali on Shannon Road in Durham has great upscale Mexican with occasional fusion touches. Owner/chef was chef at University Club in Durham and executive sous chef at Four Square in Durham, but has returned to his Mexican roots for his own place. It is really quite nice!

1/2-price wine in Chapel Hill/Carrboro?

Might be a bit far away for some, but Rockwood Filling Station in Durham does half price wines on either Mondays or Tuesdays, not sure which.

Recommendations for Chapel Hill

Ex-NYC here as well, and agree with most of the previous points, but want to add that you should try Crooks again, especially for brunch on Sunday, which seems to be a rarity around here. I find Elaine's wonderful, but agree with previous comments about the pricing. Penang is AWFUL, just flat out bad food. Panzanella has a great focus on local, organic foods which makes sense because of the tie-in with Weaver Street Market. I would also add Provence in Carrboro as a great place for traditional French country cooking.

New to Chapel Hill, Chinese Please!

If you are delving into pan-asian, don't forget Jujube on Hwy 54 in Glen Lennox Shopping center. I find it equal to Lantern, although Lantern has received more press.
