So I went on Monday night and it was.. DEAD! No one in the place. Our server was very good. I had the Beer battered oysters with chipotle corn salsa which was warm and a bit creamy. The oysters were sightly soggy, may have been sitting a while. And while the corn salsa had good chipotle flavor, I was slightly turned off by the corn. Defiitely looked like it was out of a can, which this time of year is a sin with such great sweet jersey corn. My friend had the Lamb Lolipops which he enjoyed, but I really didnt get. Entrees were good, he had scallops and vanilla poached fennel and I had the short ribs which were good, though I thought the crust on the outside was a little overdone they had a slight burned taste to them. The Mustard potato salad was tasty, though I didnt see how it fit with the dish and the grilled leeks were perfect!. Dessert wasnt so good. The trio of ice creams were very tasty, but came to find out that they were bought. (anyone can open a container and scoop ice cream, I want the homemade variety) and my Peanut Butter mousse was sour tasting. Not sure if it had sour cream, or it was old, but along with the plain chocolate covered cookies for $7, it lacked some finesse. I'd bet money that Red doesnt have a Pastry Chef, and if they do, they need a new one. The desserts are simple, unimpressive and downright boring. Chocolate chip cookies with Ice cold milk for $7. I'm willing to bet that mom makes them better.

Never been there, I'm looking to make it a stop sometime this week. Any Suggestions? Anything to stay away from?
Sunday Brunch in Monmouth County NJ
Yes hot food.. Larry is right. It was Mother's Day Brunch. A little more elaborate and definitely a way for them to stick it to ya just a little more... since you dont really mind spending the money on mom.

I agree on Buffets.. I had a Mother's Day Brunch at McLoone's Pier house for $50 per person and it was attrocious! The desserts were all bought, and if they werent, they had that Cheap Bakery feel and taste. The food was horrible. I ate Shrimp cocktail because the French Toast was rock hard and the waffles were soft. The whipped cream was all curdled and separated from sitting out a while. The view of the Ocean was great, but not worth the 50 bucks. Avenue in Long Branch is my next stop. A french Bistro style restaurant that cost 12million to build there on the water. Look at the website online.. the place is GORGEOUS!! leclubavenue.com
The state of chow in Monmouth County NJ
Midtown??? I have eaten there... 3 times, always trying to give it a chance and it is Horrible! Last time I went I had a Turkey Reuben because I was so sick of being disappointed. How hard is it to make a Reuben Sandwich? Ask the people at Midtown. My turkey was so dry it made my throat hurt to eat it, it came open faced, which wasnt specified on the menu, my toast was burnt and is wasnt even crunchy.. soggy burnt toast. That night my wife had a pasta with roasted garlic cream sauce, chicken and broccoli. The broccoli was perfectly cooked, however inedible with the rest of the dish due to raw garlic.. a ton of it covering everything. Talk about killing your taste buds. I had eaten a seafood pasta there on a different occasion which tasted and smelled really fishy... couldnt eat it. Only good thing I'v had there is the Lobster Bisque which I would say is slightly better than average.
