NYC taco trucks
I’m going to be blogging about NYC tacos and I’d like to include a few taco trucks in the mix. Anyone have any tips?
So far these have been recommended:
-Red hook ball fields
-Tacos Morelos
-Tacos El Bronco
Also..thoughts on these taquerias?
Dos Toros Taqueria
Tacos Mix
Tacos Matormoros
Taqueria Coatzingo
NIxtamal Tortilleria
Los Hermanos
Tacos Santana Tehuitzingo in Hell's Kitchen
Tacos Zaragoza in the East Village
Tacos El Idolo by West 4th
I have about a week in NY so i figure around 5 taquerias and a couple nights of taco trucking.

Lard-free Mexican
the thing to order at TPF is the chorizo and cheese taco. Everything else is pretty average.
Lard-free Mexican
8.50 + tax for a burrito. yikes. Maybe they should change their name to Ocho Cinco
Al & Bea's Report: My quest for a NorCal style burrito...
well define great.
to me great is the Al and Bea's green chile and cheese or Mexicatessen's chile verde pork burrito.
but I like simple burritos - refried beans, some stewed meat, some chopped onion and salsa.

Al & Bea's Report: My quest for a NorCal style burrito...
"i didn't eat the green chili, bean & cheese burrito, which is supposed to be their specialty. it's in the fridge and will likely be consumed late night sometime this weekend"
man that's no way to treat an Al and Bea's bean and cheese
Fathers Office=Pinks=Emperors Clothes
i think owners should be able to run their business's anyway they please(within the law of course). If that means not offering certain beers or not offering ketchup(or even allowing ketchup on the premises), or not allowing substitutions then that's their prerogative. If i had a vision and designed a menu or a burger and thought it would be best eaten a certain way and i only wanted it to be served that way and paired with beers i thought it paired well with and the public didn't accept it then I would be the fool. But Fathers Office has been successful for being who they are. If we don't like it. Don't eat there.
True the Sm location is a nightmare and frustrating. I would never go there again but the Culver City location is much more accommodating.
As far as the taste of the burger. I really like it. I also like the more traditional burgers but who was putting blue cheese on a burger in LA before fathers office?
Taco stand at 2nd and Beaudry
this taco truck is my white whale. I've literally gone to where it is supposed to be at least 5 times and I've never seen it.
it's an unfortunate name- Kike is short for enrique
New Taco Truck at corner of La Brea and Venice
tried this truck the other night. They cut the pork right on to the tortilla and then top if with pineapple. Most places cut it from the spit and then grill it.
i think this is the best al pastor I've had in LA.

You would have a hard time finding _________in Los Angeles...
:)
i knew someone would reply with Spitz. I like Spitz but it's not like the Doner Kebab I grew up with in Scotland and the type of Doner Kebab that is popular in the UK which is a flat bread like a nan bread with the kebab meat, letteuce tomato and a chile sauce.
Spitz is nothing like that.. the bread is like panini and there is no chile sauce.
Trucks That Suck
trucks that charge $2 for a can of regular soda (sprite, coke etc ) . Most of the gourmet trucks sell these cans for $1.50 but I've seen some charge $2.
border grill when they first opened sold jarritos for $2.50 a bottle. Fine. But they put a sign up that read - Jarritos only $2.50!
Trucks That Suck
that pic was taken at the food trucks for haiti event. I think it was around noon.
my friend went for the grilled cheese truck i decided on the philly steak. d'oh
maybe ill give them another chance
Trucks That Suck
my cheese steak at south philly was terrible . I got provolone and it wasn't melted. The sandwich was very dry.
look at this sad thing....and like 8 bucks.

Don Felix: Not Just for Tacos Anymore
the tacos aren't as good as they used to be. They ditched the habanero for a safer milder salsa. It's a bit pricier as well, I was $6 and change for 3 tacos and a mexican coke
Tacos El Gallito, 11:30 eats!
both el gallito and el taquito mexicano are great trucks. I was at both on sat night. The salsa roja at el gallito is a little smokier than el taquito(el taquito spicier). Bonus points for el gallito keeping their truck nice and shiny. There was a good crowd at both trucks on saturday
next time you're at el gallito try the suadero.

oh wow
what have i been missing out on
yeah i tried kogi.. i like it
i acutally thought of you when i went to the counter for a burger...all the choices i thought.....like you say..and i paraphrase ..just give me the burger how you think a burger should be.
Al and Bea's. thanks chow hounds
I don't remember who recommended this place but I know i heard about it on chowhound.
I've lived most of my life in LA and i had never been to Al and Bea's. Crazy considering most of my life i've been looking for that perfect bean and cheese burrito.
the green chile burrito is such a flashback. I can't wait to go back to try the combination burrito.
people complain about LA burritos but give me al and bea's over the steamed chewy tortila mission burritos any day.

trying to get a little taco community blog going :)
Need burrito advice from someone who knows Boston and LA!
i know burritoblog.com came out to LA a couple years ago(They eat at anna's alot) . I don't think they found a burrito similar to Anna's.
LA is a taco town.
Tito's Tacos--what is going on?
nothing changes at Tito's. I think they still have the same pole position arcade game from the 80's.
La Grande Orange in Santa Monica
the cheese on the burger is grated..I guess they are trying to be different but the cheese just overwhelms the flavor of the meat (which is high quality) The cheese stays with you throughout because its not melted...it has a lot of it's stronger flavor. I wouldn't order the burger again because of that.
the braised pork shoulder in apricot glaze is excellent but when i ordered it it didn't come with a starch which is badly needed...some kind of rice or potato would make it awesome.
