I've read through the rec's but didn't see any late night dinner (10pm ish start) places.
Casual is fine we would just love a great meal. Anywhere within a short drive would work too.
Thanks in advance for your help.
What the BEST Wood fired pizza in north beach / near nob hill? Other must try (anything) in the area?
Ended up at Tommasos and my friend and I were very impressed. I like the atmosphere and the service was casual but very prompt and friendly. We had a cherry tomato and Burrata cheese pizza. it came out quick was prepared extremely well. The crust... i could just eat that and butter all day!
I wanted to try their house made sauce so they brought me a bowl, free of charge. The lady serving, I assume is one of the owners, brought the cheese out that they used- so rich and delicious- as I hadn't eaten it before. She showed us the name and told us where to find it etc. One large was almost too much for two people.
Hoping for a dim sum lunch today, and mission district burritos tomorrow - where should we go for each?

No worries, snarkiness wasn't assumed. Thanks for the correction. Post edited :)

I'm visiting for 3 nights- tonight I'm after the best pizza in san fran within a short commute, or under 20 minute walk of Nob Hill.
I've read mixed things about Tony's Pizza Napoletana, and am considering it. If nothing else it definitely sounds like they are indeed passionate about pizza and there are some stellar posts about it. Also is Picco Pizzeria closeish and a better choice? I read through the wood over post (http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/679109) but it's a little overwhelming!
I'd love to hear some personal favorites for wood fired around here.
Also for tomorrow & the next day: If you have other must taste places of ANY type of food for breakfast / lunch/dinner and bars to go to I'd appreciate it. We have a couple more nights to go and so far are loving it here.
Hope we'll see you on the town. After pizza we'll probably hit up Tosca for a few bevy's and listen to some soul on the jukebox.
Thanks in advance chowhounders!
Montreal after midnight this Friday, suggestions?
Thanks! I'll probably saunter on down after I settle in.
Montreal after midnight this Friday, suggestions?
Thanks for all the suggestions. Chinese with the drunks might be a good time, as I'll probably do my best to at least join their path.
Don't worry about St Laurent scaring me hahaha. I've been there, and worse before.
Any specific recommendations for places / dishes in chinatown? VIP - 1077 Rue Clark was mentioned?
Montreal after midnight this Friday, suggestions?
I love the fact many good resto's have the 3 course 22:00 menus, but I won't be arriving into town until after midnight. I read through the recent posting of all the amazing food i'll be too late to get.. at least friday.
Does anyone have any suggestions for decent food downtown that are open really late (1:00am). I care about food quality aboe all else. if it's the best poutine in town, or tortiere a hole in the wall, fine ining, all works, if it's open!
Bonus cred: walking distance or short cab from the Hyatt Regency Montreal, 1255 Jeanne Mance Street.
Thanks to all in advance.
Kaji is full, I've been to George- Any other plces of this calibre in Toronto for my birthday?
Awesome suggestions! Thanks everyone. I have made a list of must visit places.
After thinking I'd be going to Kaji I crave sushi so I think I'm just going to hit up Zen and eat a whole mess of it and a good portion of sake to get the night started.
I think the next time I want to celebrate anything I'll have to try Splendido for sure.

I hould mention.. considering Hashimoto of course - any yay or nays for there are appreciated.
Zen perhaps?
Splendido perhaps? Acadia? I've heard very mixed things about Colborne lane.. but perhaps it's worth a try.
The food quality is by far the most important thing to me, service second.. loud quite, rustic or fancy doen't matter much to me :)

Dear Pittsburgh, help a visiting (this weekend) Canuck out? (I've learned some, need more!)
Greetings from Toronto, Canada! My friends and I are road tripping to Pittsburgh this labour day weekend and I am looking for "can't miss" places. I think we'll be staying at the Omni William Penn.
I want to thank Manhong for this post http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/798059. Frankly I'm temped to just go everywhere you went.
I'm hoping someone could expand on that and recommend a few great breakfast spots: I love a good greasy spoon OR a fancy brunch.. as long as it's the best in the neighborhood I'll enjoy.
Also: great pubs around the hotel for lunches, or some other amazing spot for lunch would be wonderful.
Is there any great food on the top of the mountain? Dinner on a patio looking over the city seems like an amazing idea - if such a place exists.
Finally: We are all late 20's / very early 30's and single: After we eat, where are some places to indulge in a few adult bevvy''s and perhaps meet some fair company?
Thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to seeing you all in Pittsburgh, even if I don't know it's you I see ;)
Looking for a fine dining in west area
Envers of Morriston (In Morriston right near the 401 off Hwy 6 south.) In my experience the best food you can find in the tri cities on a consistent basis.

What restaurant -with patio- has the ebst food in Montreal?
Asa always, great suggestions. Lemeac sounds well hailed, I'll definitely be looking more into that.
Thanks a lot!
What restaurant -with patio- has the ebst food in Montreal?
I'll be in Montreal within a couple weekends, and if the weather is good I'd love to dine Al fresco.
I've read a number of posts here and have compiled this list of places that seem highly recommended for their food, ut i can't find information about their out door eating area's anywhere.
I'm always open for suggestions I haven't found that have food that dwarfs the places below, and if there is a "you have to eat here, the food is just outstanding!" place without patio, I'd love to know because fresh air is no match for the best food.
I don't have Au Pied de Cochon simply because the person I'm with has been a couple of times, though I would like to go, so it is an option depending on what you all have to say.

The BEST food within walking distance to The Canon theater?
First, I want to thank those who recommended George. It was incredible. We all had the 7 course, with wine pairings. I haven't experienced service like that at a canadian restaurant... probably ever... it was better than I could expect from anywhere.
My parents raved it was one of the best meals they have ever had, if not THE best.
I honestly can't think of anything they served that I didn't REALLY enjoy.... and the wine, OH the wine. The Sommelier was incredibly knowledgeable and picked amazing pairs for every dish. There were some monsters in the bunch too, like a 25 year old Bordeaux... just amazing.
I honestly can't remember every dish, but I'll try and explain a few -I suppose that is one of the downfalls of a pre-dinner Manhattan, 7 glasses of wine at dinner and a friends birthday afterward.. the memory she be hazy.
The first dish was prepared personally by the Chef, a Kobe sashimi with a number of "relishes" lightly drizzled with sesame oil. It Wow'ed the entire table and the meal just kept goig like that.
Dungeness crab "cakes", fois gras over pork belly or pheasant, amazingly rich blue cheeses.. And on and on.
We mentioned it was a gift to our parents and they really did go out of the way to make it special, the chef greeted us personally and numerous dishes were prepared for them as a pair while my brother and I received similar but not exactly the same.
Motivation to start earning big dollars so I can go more often, because it isn't cheap, but it was worth it.
The BEST food within walking distance to The Canon theater?
Awesome, George it will be :)
The BEST food within walking distance to The Canon theater?
My brother and I are taking the parents on a very special dinner and a show.
They are adventurous eaters and know quality so I'd love tips on what you amazing info sources consider the best restaurant within 10 minutes walk to the Canon Theater.
Price is no object, food is the number one criteria -service is important too.
Thanks in advance for your help. I'll make sure to review whatever place we decide on!
Pairing challenge.. Venison ragu & pulled pork...Help a relative Newb!?
I meant the white Zinfandel might be a good pair if it wasn't incredibly sweet, because of the pulled porks sweetness in the sauce.
Pairing challenge.. Venison ragu & pulled pork...Help a relative Newb!?
Great explanation! I figured the sweetness might be a decent match for the pulled pork as I have a feeling it'll be a fairly sweet sauce.
Im not 100% sure of the ingredients but I'm pretty sure it'll be a tomato based "Country home cooked" sauce. Tomatoes, garlic, deer and a leaf or two of basil, with the tomatoes and venison being to most bullish tastes.
Pairing challenge.. Venison ragu & pulled pork...Help a relative Newb!?
Typed that on the phone, that should read red or white. Thanks for the info, I figured as much on the Zinfandel I just didn't know how to word that question. I've had some awesome Zinfandel's, but limited decent white zin's :)
Pairing challenge.. Venison ragu & pulled pork...Help a relative Newb!?
Thanks! Just to clarify, are you talking a white / rode zinfande?l
Pairing challenge.. Venison ragu & pulled pork...Help a relative Newb!?
I'm new to the world of wine pairing (vs. just enjoying) and I'm loving the challenges it brings.
I'm in charge of bringing wine to a weekend getaway that will include the following two meals and would love some suggestions about a great wine.
#1 Venison ragu over some sort of nondescript pasta without filing (spaghetti from a box probably!) This one I am kinf of leaning towards a Sangiovese somewhere hot (tuscany?) as the italians eat a lot of tomato based sauce and have been known to use game in it, and it seems a fit. Any suggestions you think would be better?
#2) Pulled pork.. I mut admit I don't know where to begin.. It's probably going to be sweet and BBQ'Ey (new word!) so umm.. perhaps a full bodied / hot climate blush? I could use some help on that one.
Thanks in advance!
Help a road trip bound Canadian around the Middlebury area (within a couple hours)??
I'm visiting a friend who secretly I'd like to be more this weekend in Middlebury Vt.
We plan on driving around the mountains and taking pictures and just seeing what your beautiful area has for us.
Help me wine and dine & impress! (though mostly it's for me.. I'm the foodie.)
Anything within an hour or so (longer if the drives beautiful) that is just fantastic. As always food quality is what I look for above all else, though a romantic setting or a view to behold in this case would be a nice secondary consideration. Price isn't important, I just want the best food I can get.
I really look forward to hearing what's around, I've never been to this part of the USA!
Help in a hurry? Awesome food at reasonable prices in yorkville needed.. impossible? I hope not..
Thanks Everyone who responded.
Friday we had hungarian at the Coffee mill. My grandma was hungarian so definitely brought back some nice memories. The spot is exactly what you;d picture if you thought about where your gramma would hang with her friends on a friday afternoon. The food was good, it was super resonably priced. Great comfort grub. The banana cake was nice, but I prefered the homemade strudel with french vanilla ice cream. That dessert was awesome!
We chose Fire on the East side for dinner saturday and I got rave reviews for the find, so thanks! It was actually one of the most memorable meals I've had in a while and at a very decent pricepoint. The service was bang on, I liked the atmosphere and everyones meals were great. I had the sirloin burger with chili fries, my brother has the filet mignon and it was cooked wonderfully. He said it was a great steak, not the best he's ever had but defiitely better than many. The best review came from my friend who had the meatloaf. His claim was it was the best meatloaf he has ever had.. and this guy loves meatloaf. SO, good reviews all around!
We didn't get dessert, but overall it came in around $135 for the three of us for dinner with tax and tip and we had around 5 drinks between us.

Thanks for taking the time to post this. I'm part hungarian so I love the unique reco. I have a full plate of places to check out.

I keep seeing Caren's Wine Bar all over the board, but have wanted to try Guu for a while. I love Izakaya's. Haven't been one since the few weeks I spent in Tokyo.
Nervosa seems like cool digs and I do love italian food.
I am perplexed, so different, yet so appealing all the same! ;)

So I'm heading to toronto this evening and staying at the Marriott Bloor Yorkville.
Located on Bloor between Young and Church.
The challenge:
Resto should be walking distance, within 10 minutes or so.
I'm looking for a spot to eat dinner tonight that holds food above all other considerations and comes in at sub $30.00 mains at the high end.
I don't mind a hole in the wall find that has food to die for, but I'd prefer the service to be at least average. Wine helps bad service nicely-but nothing makes up for bad food!
Yorkville places I've tried on whims have always ended up being style above substance, so I leave my food fate in your hands. I've been lucky enough to get amazing suggestions on the board before, and they always turn out great!
I look forward to hearing from anyone! Thanks in advance!
