Real Fruit Juice Gummie Bears in Calgary?
Hi All,
For Easter my mom always got us real fruit juice gummie bears (light yellow, dark yellow, light red and deep purple/red in colour). She bought them at the bulk food section of the health food store (in Grande Prairie Alberta). You can still get them there. I can't find any in Calgary. Does anyone have leads? I have checked Community Natural Foods and the main grocery stores. Any leads appreciated. Thanks!

Good ready-made lasagne (Calgary)?
Hi - does anyone have advice on where I can pickup a good ready-made lasagne (vegetarian or meat) to bake at home? My family loves lasagne but I find its too time-consuming to make very often.
I have tried Sunterra's and have been underwelmed to say the least.
I have also tried Mercato - too rich and too expensive IMHO.
I've also tried various frozen versions from the grocery store - I would like something fresh that I can pop in the oven (either vegetarian or meat lasagne).
Not sure if any such thing (other than the Mercato and Sunterra options) exist, but please let me know if you've come across a good one.
Thanks!

Caffe Mauro (Calgary) - Please support this fantastic sandwich spot in its new location
Yeah - I remember I tried to go to his old location on a weekend and was disappointed. I agree that longer hours, especially in his new location would be a good move. I didn't check the hours at the new location.
Caffe Mauro (Calgary) - Please support this fantastic sandwich spot in its new location
Hi all,
Just wanted to post a shout-out to one of my favourite lunch spots and a plea for people to support this great place. Caffe Mauro (as noted in an older post) used to be on 1 St and 8th Ave downtown and it has hands down the best sandwich in Calgary (in my opinion). Hot sandwiches including the meatball and veal parmigan. Cold sandwiches have veggie and lotsa meat options, and the toppings are to die for...olive tapenade, tomatoes, jalapeƱo veggie spread, great selection of cheeses, mushrooms, etc... And the sandwiches are huge. Daily soup is good too.
Anyway, I finally made it to its new location across from MEC (120-999 8 St SW) and the food was just as good as in its original locale and space is much better. And owner Sal is still behind the counter. I'm worried because it didn't seem that busy (on a Thursday at lunch time). I hope that it was just a slow day and that loyal customers are still seeking out Caffe Mauro in its new spot. But if not, I thought I would do a post to remind people that it's there and encourage you to check it out if you haven't had the pleasure. Its still close enough for a downtown lunch option and also now easier to access if you're not right in the downtown core. Please support an excellent, locally-owned establishment.
Here's a link to a recent review in FFWD too. http://www.ffwdweekly.com/article/life-style/food/mauro-the-same-thank-god-3810/
Thanks!!
