D Bar Desserts
I went to their soft opening on Tuesday. They gave us a very limited menu (it was free/donations only that night). We tried the halibut, mac and cheese with lobster, and their "cake and shake." Savory dishes were ok, but I thought both dishes lacked flavor aside from the tomatoes on the halibut.
The waitress told us the cake and shake is what made them famous in Denver.
The chocolate cake was fine if unremarkable. The raspberry shake was downright gross.
This was the soft opening, and they wouldn't let me order some of the more interesting items on their menu. Maybe they need to work out the kinks or their other dishes are a lot better, but I wasn't too impressed with what I had on my visit.
Good Indian Restaurant in San Diego
Am I ordering the wrong thing at Punjabi Tandoor? I've ordered the lamb vindaloo, chana masala, and the bengan bhartha, and they were all very disappointing. They always seemed under spiced and not enough heat for my liking.
I second the rest of your remarks. Surati Farsan Mart is pretty good, and all the indian places downtown are complete jokes. I'll also add that Delhi Kitchen on Carmel Mountain Rd makes some good north Indian cuisine, especially if you stick to the vegetarian dishes.

Arpeggio Rules
This place is a gem. Arpeggio has fantastic food at great prices (I couldn't believe my eyes when I picked up the giant greek pizza), but I've always found the dine-in service lacking. They've recently cleaned up the decor even beyond the major face-lift from a couple of years ago, but the poor service makes me think of it as a take-out only kind of place.
Neighborhood Chow Part I: French Place
I tried them today. Probably one of the best choices for to-go sushi in the area. I tried their 'box sushi,' which is basically nigiri with some crab salad mixed into the rice. I'm no expert, but it was pretty tasty. They had supermarket prices but significantly higher quality than say Central Market, Zen (ugh!), or Kyoto happy hour, which are all in the same price range. They even had some interesting looking rolls. I think I'm going to try the natto roll next time.
Flavor Tripping in Austin!
If you're looking to flavor trip for less money, you can buy miracle fruit tablets online for something like $15 for 10 tablets. They're freeze dried and ground up, but they work just as well and don't go bad.
The effect lasted maybe an hour and a half when I tried it. Surprisingly, plain yogurt was the biggest hit with the flavor trippers.
