Glad you had a good results with my favorite bakery. Ziggy and Pattie treats you like family, not customers. That makes them special. Come back soon Niki-Jimz

Fresh Ham

Go to two of our better grocery stores, Dognac's or Zuppardoe's have them all the time. I do not buy pork at Rouse's. All their pork is injected with a 12% broth solution by weight. Number one I want to season my own food and two, I do not want to pay for water. I have seen them at Winn Dixie but that is rare. They usually have fresh picnics, which comes from the upper front shoulder. That is very good too. You cook like a roast for slicing. How are you going to cook it LL and serve. Hope this helps. I just thought call Emmit's Meat on Jeff Hwy across from Smile's Rest. if you want something cut special. They are a very good butcher shop. Nice man that whats to please his customers the old fashion way.

Lookinng for Challah bread

My number one place would be Maple Street Patisserie when available. My second number one place is Dognacs on Vets. Their grocery store bakery is not a grocery store bakery, but a excellent bakery all on its own. They have a variety of challah all the time.

Recommendations for cheap seafood, cajun, comfort food in New Orleans?

The one place you could try in that price range that has been around a long time, and has NOLA food is The Gumbo Shop. They are right there in the FG.

FQ on a budget...

I would agree with Suzy Wong on Maspero's on Decatur, also another inexpensive place is The Gumbo Shop.

Cheesesteaks in NOLA?

Cafe Nino on Carrollton, is very good. Nino does all his own cooking and takes a lot of pride in it. I thick he makes the best pizza in town. Plus his steam table puts out great Italian dishes. He is from Sicily. The place is not that great looking but the food is. It is next to Lebanon Cafe, set back a little from the street in the Riverbend section. Give it a try and you will be back. As a transplanted yankee of 33yrs, it is just like the Italian Delis I grew up with.

Bakery on Maple Street

Molly, thanks for putting this up, I wrote about the bakery on another forum. Ziggy makes the best breads and pastries. The amount of product he puts out in day with no sacrifice in quality is well above average. If you get a chance to try his seeded semolina bread do not pass it up. you will savor every bite.
