Yucatan Eats - requests and a belated report

From a couple of Playa del Carmen travel forums, tourists and locals-ex-pats alike are singing the praises of Wicky's:

"By the way, Wickys has the best hamburger in town, hands down. "

"be hungry if you go
huge and tasty, if there is a better one, i have not met it
nice fries, too "

Wineman3...

you should post that information about Wicky's on www.intheroo.com.
My new Playa forum hangout.
I used to moderate for years at Playa.info.

John and Libby Bekas run the site.
Also, loads of great information about Playa there for locals, ex-pats and we who love it and visit often. Again, give a shoutout to Michele and Rob Kinnon. cochina 38 has been getting MUCH better reviews (especially about the wines and the pour for the $) and you should check it out.

Someday, I'd love to buy you a drink in Playa. usually we stay at The Luna Blue Hotel and you can find us about town, especially though, at the Luna Blue for music on Tuesday nights. The owners, Tony and Cheri, are great folks from San Francisco and love a good wine.

Rapid City SD (Mt Rushmore) Chowhoundish recommendations?

Yes, In Belle Fourche, SD.
Although I believe a couple of places try to claim that.
;-)

Hey, if you know Michelle Kinnon...she's a friend and instrumental in the recent Taste of Playa. She has a blog about some new happenings. John Gray's and maybe The Uncorked Club. Anyway, here's the lnk:

Well, hey wineman3~!
What a coincidence...
I live in Rapid City and just this moment asked you about a question in the PdC thread (Mayakoba Banyan Dining) in re: to Cocina 38 and the Wicky's venture you mentioned in June.

We LOVE PdC but generally tend to eat very local and cheap, with the occasional dinner out with local PdC Hotel owners we consider family.

Wineman3,

Thanks so much for this great information~!
Any news on the Wicky's venture~?
With the new development right up to the El Faro Lighthouse we saw in April I didn't see and have yet to hear of a BBQ opening in Playa. Playa locals and businesses have been going to Zenzi on Sunday for 100p BBQ and Tropical Casablanca on the occasional Saturday for another All-You-Can-Eat BBQ experience.
LOVE Playa and the diversion (and fusion) of foods (Where else can you go than to go to PdC and Mexico, to go to a Thai Noodle place - Babe's - and eat Swedish Meatballs~! ;-)
...but would LOVE to see a BBQ place.
