Dim Sum/Chinese in Flushing New Years Eve

Hello,

We thought we'd go out to Flushing for some great Dim Sum/Chinese food on New Years Eve.

Would love to get some suggestions!

Thanks for your help and Happy New Year to all!

Holiday gathering- 12 people

Hello,

I'm looking for suggestions for a holiday gathering of about 12 people.

Causual, loungy. Some place where there are seats, couches, benches, tables in the bar area.

We're just looking to order lots of app's or small plates to share.

Wine bars would be OK.

Suggestions other than just wine bars would be great so people can have other cocktail options.

Price point is open, not too expensive.

Thanks for your help!

Best place to eat near the Javitz?

I think Red Cat is good too. I also like Cookshop.

Gimme More Smores!

DTUT has been closed for months.

Dinner for 15

Hello Everyone,

Looking for some suggestions for dinner for 15.

Open to types of cuisine and location. Most are not NY'ers. Good food, not too expensive and able to fit a table of 15 (is that possible?) seem to be the buzz words.

It's a pretty lively group if that helps at all.

Any suggestions are welcome and greatly appreciated!

81 Reasons to LOVE 81

We went for dinner the other night and didn't even stay. Had a drink in the lounge and all agreed the atmosphere felt stiff and the menu...well I'm not sure how to explain it...but not appealing to the group. It was first the atmosphere that put us off and since the menu didn't intrique anyone, we left.

So, I ate at Fiamma last night....

I agree, a few friends and I went recently and we were all underwhelmed.

I wouldn't really care much about the age of the people at a restaurant as long as the food was good...we'll all be 65 one day!

Best Steakhouse for Four 20 year old guys

Stripehouse is good and fun.

Know any Fondue restaurants in NYC?

Another vote for Artisanal.

any good bakeries in hell's kitchen?

While the cupcakes are very pretty at Cupcake Cafe, I'm not a fan. The cake is pretty dry and they use buttercream that is too buttery....if that makes sense!

Upper East Side/Midtown East Wine Bar Suggestion?

Well, it's not a wine bar, but Solera is good. They have a nice selection of wine and really good tapas.

True that Hearth has lost its luster?

I posted recently that I went and we were all very under whelmed.

Looking for Good Sushi Delivery on UES

Amber, 80th and 3rd.

I don't eat sushi, but I know some people say it's their favorite on the UES.

Are there any places to buy discounted Le Creuset in the city?

Bed Bath and Beyond always mails those 20% off coupons. I have a coupon right now and it doesn't list LC as an exclusion.

COMPASS..suggestions?

I ate there recently. Service was very good. If I ate there again, I'd sit in the bar area. I like the atmosphere better.
Had the beet salad and the skate, both good.

Cheese tasting

I took a great one at ICE.

German Restaurant?

Heidelberg
1648 2nd Ave (between 85th and 86th)
212-628-2332

I can't vouch for it, I've only ever walked by it. Here's what Zagat has to say, although I don't know that it counts for anything.

"A “throwback” to the heyday of Yorkville’s Germantown, this “everything-Deutsch” “charmer” produces hard-to-find classics served by a lederhosen-clad staff; some find the “biergarten” setting “cheesy”, but most embrace the “festive” spirit and low prices"

Has something happened to Hearth?

I just had dinner there a few weeks ago and all 3 of us were a bit disappointed. We didn't think any of our dishes especially interesting or delicious. It was only OK. I wouldn't go back or recommend it to anyone.

Recommendations - 175th St and B'way

Hi,

Looking for some suggestions for restaurants. I'm not familiar with this part of the city and will be in the neighborhood one night this week.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Holiday cocktails and apps for 20

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check it out.

We don't need to be near the train, so any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Holiday cocktails and apps for 20

Hi Everyone,

Looking for some suggestions:

-Group of 15-20.
-Cost per person $75.
-Cocktails and appetizers
-Location - we're open
-Space - it would be great if there was a separate area that we could ask the restaurant to set aside for us.

We're open to all suggestions. Thanks so much for your help!

Reqs for Christmas Gift/Restaurant Certificate?

I gave $100 gift certificates as gifts last year from the B.R. Guest retaurants. Lot's of good choices so they can pick from a list of restaurants. Vento is fun, causal and I think $100 could cover 2 people. Here's the link:

Artisan chocolates

1. La Maison du Chocolat
2. Richart
3. Teuschers - for the Champagne truffle

Best Chocolates

-La Masion du Chocolat
-Richart - French chocolate. Worth a visit to the store at 7E 55th st.
-Christopher Norman Chocolate http://www.christophernormanchocolates.com/index.php
-Laderach - not sure where you can find it in NYC these days, it's wonderful Swiss chocolate. One of the best Champagne truffles
-Teuscher's - for the Champagne truffles

I not a fan of Leonidas at all, so not special IMO.

Michel Cluizel was intriguing and I bought a bunch. I was very excited, the flavors sounded great and they are beautiful. I found them disappointing and incredibly over priced. I'd pay a lot for great chocolate, but I didn't think it was up to par.

E 80's or upper 70's not precious place!

I forgot about York Grill. Thanks for the reminder! It is a good neighbor place.

I've also had many good meals at Cafe D'Alsace. They've rearranged the seating so it's a bit less cramped.

Todd English - Olives - Union Square

I've eated at Country twice. In the Cafe, not the fancier place upstairs, we just prefer a less formal atmosphere. Both times the food and service were fantastic. I will definitely return.

I think The Harrison has a private dining room.

Tapas

Another vote for Solera.

Cookshop, The Harrison or Savoy on Saturday Night?

My favorite is Cookshop. Have been several times, great food and service.

I just ate at Savoy a few weeks ago. Ther service was horrible. We were seated for almost 30 minutes before we got water and bread. We finally had to get the Host and ask him to have someone take our drink order. After that, our waitress was annoyed with us all night. That said, food was very good. I would give it one more try based on the food.

Haven't been to the Harrison in a couple of years. I've had good meals there, but have heard it's not as great as it once was. Hopefully others will ring in with their opinion.
