Romantic Restaurant in Sonoma County

I dined at the girl and the fig a few weeks ago and would not reccommend it. The food was not impressive at all, the cheese plate was good. Seems like over-rated regular food.

Birthday Sonoma Itinerary

Just came back from Sonoma a few weeks ago and reccommend the following wineries:

Gary Farrell, in Santa Rosa: nice wine and cheese tasting
Merry Edwards, in Sebastopol: wonderful Pinot Noirs and Savignon Blanc, tasting only
Littorai, betwwen Sebastopol and Freestone: wonderful Pinot Noirs, tasting only

Newlyweds from Toronto in search of SF's best!

I was just in San Francisco, Sonoma, and Napa a few weeks ago...it was an amazing trip. In San Francisco we ate dinner at Gary Danko which was a wonderful dining experience, great food and service. We did the 3-course tasting meal, but if you just want to eat a-la-carte you need to sit at the bar. Call early for a reservation as they have a waiting list.

We also ventured into Sausilito which is a town just after the Golden Gate Bridge going North. Wonderful town! We ate dinner at Sushi Ran after a recommendation from a former local... It was amazing, best sushi I've ever had. Try the smoked hamachi dish...

For breakfast, A MUST is Tartine Bakery (in the Mission). Delicious pastries, food and coffee. Worth the wait if there is one.

In Napa, we ate lunch at Taylor's Automatic Refresher, delicious burgers in my opinion, try the garlic parsely fries too. For dinner, we ate at Bottega. Great food, great ambiance and service. I've never been to any other restaurants there so there might be better ones, but we enjoyed it.

Russian River Valley Pinot Noir Tasting Help

I agree with whiner, Merry Edwards has wonderful pinot noirs. Another small winery to try for a tasting is Littorai, make an appointment.

Sumptuous San Francisco/Sonoma? Part II (1999/2009)

Also ate dinner at Gary Danko a few weeks ago and it was delicious. We did the 3-course tasting menu...the foie gras, scallops with a mushroom dust and pea puree, and the chocolate souffle. My boyfriend got the tuna tartare, filet mignon, and some type of cherry cheescake. Everything was amazing as well as the service. Ask the waiters to give you their list of good restaurants.

Definitely check out the Ferry Building on Saturday for the farmer's market, ACME bread and cowgirl creamery for the cheese.

We also ventured to Sausilito for the day and ate dinner at Sushi Ran. If you love sushi, this place is a MUST. Hands down the best sushi restaurant I've every been too, try the smoked hamachi dish...delicious.

Sumptuous San Francisco/Sonoma? Part II (1999/2009)

Tartine Bakery (in the MIssion, SF) is an ABSOLUTE MUST! There might be a line on the weekends, but it is soo worth it. They have an unbelievably croque moussier and quiche as well as their famous morning buns. The seasonal fruit bread pudding is also delicious, as is their coffee. I think any pastry you try will be wonderful. We loved it so much we went back two days in a row...

Napa Valley - three great dinners?

Regarding Bottega, really nice place, the service was wonderful, and the food was very good...Maybe a little heavy since it is Italian, but very tasty. I ordered the risotto with porcini mushrooms and truffle oil, delicious. My boyfriend ordered the special of the day which was a porchetta stuffed with sausage, very good. The atmosphere is also very lively.

Napa Valley - three great dinners?

I agree with glbtrtr about the girl and the fig...I was there a few weeks ago and was not impressed at all. The cheese plate was good as well as the seafood sausage, but everything else was just alright. There are other places that people have mentioned that are probably a lot better.

East Coaster Looking for Good Private Guide to Help Tour Sonoma Wineries
