Dinner & Drinks for a Group near St John the Divine?

I have a group of friends heading to the Halloween Extravaganza at St John the Divine on Friday and want to meet for food and drinks beforehand. It would be about 12 people around 8pm. Any great suggestions?

Thanks!

Three Meals in Baltimore?

I will be in Baltimore for work the Thursday and Friday of Labor Day weekend. I'll be there for lunch and dinner (and probably drinks afterward) the first day and breakfast the second day. Because of work, I'ld like to stick to the Inner Harbor, but will venture further for something amazing. Where should I eat? Usually I prefer local hole-in-the-walls over the hoity toity types, but I eat just about anything. Would love some local suggestions! Thanks in advance!

How to make cucumber sandwiches?

Two suggestions that I think helps...
First, lay the slices on a paper towel and gently place another on top to dry the slice. They stick to the butter better and don't fall apart if you make the sandwiches small.
Second, soften the butter and added minced fresh mint- the mint and cucumber play off one another nicely. Let it sit for a few hours before spreading it on to let the mint work itself in.

Suggestions for a first trip to Asheville

My friend and I are planning a trip to Asheville for four days in December and neither of us have been there before. Any suggestions on what not to miss in the restaurant/bar category (or anything else, for that matter)?

Many thanks!

Pluot-Amaretti Trifle

When fresh fruit choices are more limited in the winter, I make orange/chocolate trifle with devil's food cake, cointreau, marmalade, orange slices and chocolate custard, and topped with cocoa whipped cream...always a big hit!
