Arby's Gyros

I heard somewhere that a lamb burger at a McDonalds in India is called a Maharajah Burger, (were now getting into Pulp Fiction territory here.)

I want to say Olga's, but that isn't really fast food.

Arby's Gyros

Has anyone out there tried to Arby's Gyros? I did today. Lets just say I'm going to stick to there Roast Beef. Oddly enough the gyro meat tasted kind of like the Roast Beef. Olga's has nothing to fear, (neither does the local souvalki place.)

Moe's Tavern

I really don't like to drink, so unless a dive bar starts serving Nyquil I wont have one to call my own.

Moe's Tavern

The FXX Channel is well into it's 12 day Simpson's Marathon,
(season 18 starts in about 12 minutes.) My question is about Moe's Tavern. Has anyone ever been to a place as dingy and depressing as Moe's? I heard a long time ago it was based a few different places but I can't remember where.

Trip report: Mt. Desert Island and Bar Harbor

When I was in Maine two years ago I transferred from a CYR Bus to a Greyhound Bus at Dysart's. The switch was only 10 minutes so I didn't order anything because I didn't want to miss the connection. Maybe I missed something?

A look back, what restaurant or bar do you wish was still around? [Detroit area]

The Trio was in Southfield on Northwestern Highway north of 12 mile, close to the Farmington hills border. It was actually three restaurant in one building: one was a upscale sort of place, one was kind of a kind of cocktail lounge, I can't remember the 3rd. I was gone by the early 80's when I was around 11 or 12 so my memories of it are kind of fuzzy. It just at that age seemed to cool place you got to eat out with your parents one in a while.

anything north of port Huron?

Last year I posed a similar question about Michigan's Thumb in general. Someone recommended the Farm and it was very worth it. However, the place is just south of Port Austin, which I think is outside your 40 radius.

Driving from Michigan to Moline Quad Cities IL via I-94 and I-80

Usually while driving from Detroit to Chicago it's Big Boy city. However a couple of months ago while driving to my grandmother's funeral, (she made it to 98) I found a place in Lawton called a Breakfast Place. They served great corned beef hash. It is roughly three miles south of Kalamazoo.

I love Tim Hortons because...

I get where you're coming from. on the Roadfood sight a few years ago I mentioned buying Sushi at Wal Mart. Nobody was actually personally insulting, but I got a lot of "what the hell are you doing." I got the same thing when I mentioned ordering a steak at a coney island.

Question About Still

On the Series M*A*S*H the tent where Hawkeye, Trapper, Frank, BJ, and Winchester lived had a still. My question is what kind of alcohol did that still produce? My guess it was some sort of gin, but I can't say for sure. Maybe it was a form of grain alchohol.

Las Night's Hannibal

Hannibal has been renewed for a third season. Has anyone been watching the last few weeks with Mason Verger. Last week he did to himself what was referred to in the Movie Hannibal, ("I'm full of myself.')

There seems to less food scenes this season, but the one with the fish comes to mind.

It's interesting that Kids in The Hall member Scott Thompson is playing a lab tech. About 19 years ago he made a movie called Brain Candy.

My First Durian

After years of curiousityI Finally tried a durian. The was a Chinese grocery next to the Thai Restaurant I went to in Madison Heights MI, and I picked one up more less on a whim. After trying to imagine to smell and taste for years, I now know. The description of a onion like custard was more or less correct. It's smell was strong, but I've smelled worse.

Has anyone tried Water Joe, bottled water with caffeine? It tried it this week. It has kind of a funky, slightly bitter taste.

Thanksgiving Meal Other Than Turkey

Is anyone out there eating something other than Turkey for Thanksgiving? This years for the second years in a row we are having brisket. I'm not sure what else is going to be there besides the usual chopped liver appetizer. I'm bringing a bottle of Mad Housewife wine and Baklava. It should be interesting and intimate, (5 people are going to be there.)

Wendy's (No Coke)

Everything else was fine. The Baconator was good and I still have a little bit of the Sprite I ordered instead.

Wendy's (No Coke)

This afternoon I went to a local Wendy's drive through to pick up lunch.
When I order a combo meal I found out they were out of Coke. To me this was strange and the possible sign of a badly run operation. My mom years ago told me of a Chinese restaurant that ran out of rice. Maybe this is something akin to this.

Surviving Whole Foods

I was there yesterday picking up snacks for the woman who was cleaning my apartment. She only ate raw foods so 7 11 was out of the question, (she did a great job.) It's easy to get through than Trader Joes and has more selection.

Weird 70's PSA

I tried to look for the PSA on Youtube but struck out. It might of been a meatloaf but it's been over 30 years since I've seen it. I'm pretty sure it's what you remember.

Weird 70's PSA

Does anyone remember this odd Public Service Announcement ? It features Sam And Ella, two cartoon microbes representing the Salmonella bacteria. They are running around a kitchen reminding people how dangerous they are. Meanwhile, the words Sam & Ella are chiming to the strains of Wagner's Ride Of The Valkeries, (think Apocalypse Now.) It was a very strange TV memory from my childhood.
