NYC Foodie First Time (Birthday) Trip to New Orleans April 11-16

I would also reccomend the chicken picata at Clancy's. Its great and Clancy's is one of our favorites.

Just returned from New Orleans

After having sampled a number of restaurants in this great city over the years, I figured I would provide you with an updated list of some of my old faithfuls and new favorites. The first night we arrived my wife and I returned to one of our favorites-Bayona. We started with sweetbreads. Amazing, nothing less. Easily the single best bite of food I have ever had in my life. I said it. We continued with the pork chop and a rabbitt prepared 3 different ways. The rabbitt was great, the pork chop was out of this world. I am always amazed at how Susan and her team can turn an ordinary pork chop into something just short of heaven.

Thursday night we tried something new (to us) known as Clancy's. I had the veal and my wife had a filet. The filet was prepared nicely and the veal was ok. The desert, chocalate brownie with peppermint ice cream-was out of this world. The thing with Clancy's is that its not full of tourist, like me. I like that and it will now be on our list of must eats in NOLA.

Friday night was my favorite restaurant in the world-Galatoire's. We like Galatoire's for what it was, is, and stands for-simple yet very elegant food mixed with a new orleans attitude. We always seem to make new friends and eat and drink for hours. I have eaten in alot of places around the country and to me-nobody does an evening like Galatoire's. If you have never been, please treat yourself to an incredible experience. I reccomend everything. I had softshell crab topped with crab and capers.

Saturday night was the much acclaimed Cochen. I started with Fried Rabbitt livers with pepper jelly and then shaved hogs head. Both were outstanding. The rabbitt livers were NOLA at it's finest. I then had the oyster and bacon sandwhich. It was ok. Cochen's atmosphere reminded me more of New York than NOLA which was a turnoff for me, however if you want to eat at the hip new place in NOLA it has to be Cochen. It was packed from the time we got there until the time we left and was a very upbeat evening.

PoBoy's-This trip we had them all. Parkway, Johnny's and Domilise's. Domilise's stood to me way out front. The oyster poboy was heaven. The potatoe salad at Johhny's is allworld. Parkway was also very good.

BBQ Oysters at RedFish Grill. No where to me is more touristy than RedFish Grill. This I hate. There BBQ oysters are insane. If you like fried oysters, please don't let your inner snob miss out on these treats.

I am always so sad when Sunday arrives.

PS: Go to the World War II museum and watch the movie Tom Hanks made. It is amazing complete with vibrating seats as the Atomic bomb is dropped.

Week in Review 7-31 to 8/7- Fairly long

Murial's is so UNDERRATED. I have to admit I have only been once. The wife and I went on a Sunday night, both had the pork chop and it was incredible. I felt so retarded for ordering a pork chop in NOLA, I was so glad I did. We paired it with a cab of all things and had a great meal.

First trip to Vegas

First of all, you can eat anywhere in Vegas for $250-before wine. I would reccomend Tao and Delmonico. At Tao order all tapas plates. The seabass, chicken and kobe are incredible. i went wild to and ordered sushi for desert.

At Delmonico order the bone in Ribeye. Finish with oreo bannana bread pudding.

Bayona

Ok, this might be my new favorite restaurant in New Orleans-maybe anywhere. Between the 4 people in my party we ordered sweet breads, cold smoked quail salad, pot stickers, and goat cheese salad. for our entrees we ordered the rabbit, hanger steak, lamb, and the duck.

I can safely say that each one of these dishes was incredible, and rivaled anything I have ever eaten. For me the rabbit now overtakes Mario Batali's squab he serves up at NYC's famed Babbo as my death row entree.

The service we recieved from "Harold" was incredible. He treated us like we were members of Susan's family.

My next trip back to New Orleans will include Bayona.
