Buckhead: Gourmet groceries and stores with great beer selections

What are you looking for at the grocery? All of these are great stores but you don't want to be running around grocery shopping the whole time. If its nothing too specific, the Whole Foods at West Paces should be all you need. There is so much to check out and get inspired to make! Plus you can eat a yummy lunch at the enormous buffet bar.

Atlanta for one day - lunch in Buckhead area

I love the spots suggested, well except OK Cafe, which is good, but not good enough. I'm still a sucker for Buckhead Diner but no where to sit outside. Horseraddish Grill is great and beautiful garden seating with southern food. Eclipse de Luna is more of an evening spot and its hip and crowded, more about the scene although the food is great, but no way is it walkable from the Grand Hyatt. Bistro Nikko is in walking distance and has an outside area. Enjoy your afternoon!

Dining in Buckhead

I have little kids and live in the area so happy to suggest some family friendly spots;
-Buckhead Diner is still a great time for kids, along with Atlanta Fish Market (same group) and now has a huge jelly fish tank that should help keep your little one entertained.
-Flip at Chastain is certainly kid friendly, but my family wasn't "wowed" by the place & while the krispy kream dounuts milkshake tasted just like their dounuts, my kids thought it was too sweet! In that same parking lot, a frozen yoguart spot kids love!
-Just around the corner from Flip is Horseraddish Grill. A terrific southern restaurant that really is reflective of Atlanta, and very children friendly (milk, cookies, kids meal) and fine dining for you. Walk around the organic gardens while you wait on your meal.
-A nice little walk from your hotel is Maggiano's and Corner Bakery. Perfect for you and kids. Corner Bakery is cafeteria style for breakfast or lunch. Maggiano's is a chain, but is close, kid friendly and pretty good. That's your easiest Italian.
-If your little one can sit for a while, Bone's is a fantastic steak restaurant, many, many mentions on this board, but all depends on how good a 5 year old can be at dinner.
-If more casual is needed, Aja is right by your hotel and offers a children's menu, with sushi and asian dishes for you, but food is nothing special. That being said, sometimes just being in a restaurant (not chuck e cheese) and having a bar makes all the difference! Same group has Twist across the street from your hotel, but very loud at night.
-My children's very favorite is Chick-fil-a. All over town and just a fantastic fast food spot that serves only chicken and the kids can't get enough! Most have those dreadful playgrounds too so your little one can burn off some energy.
-Last suggestion, if my kids could choose dinner every night, they would pick Houston's. Does have a kids menu but you have to insist, nobody offers it up. Good consistent food and a bar, Lenox location right by your hotel, although West Paces location is more kids friendly.
Enjoy!

McKendrick's vs. Chops

Bobstripower, yes waiting on your reservation isn't ideal, but the place is so great and the bar is terrific- forces you to have a drink (or more) and just enjoy the evening. It's just a different vibe from any other "steak house", nothing about it is stuffy or formal.

LA next week with kids, where to eat good?

The Beverly Boulevard location~ my husband got txts for American Idol, thus the kids, thus the help from CH! The funny part is that the kids could probably care less where or what they eat, so you're right, driving far for a deli (when they don't even love deli sandwiches- just bagels) isn't worth it, but so appreciate the help everyone.
Have so many great suggestions to eat all our meals because of this board and think they will all be terrific AND family friendly which equals a fun trip for all of us.
Thanks and will let you know how next week works out!

McKendrick's vs. Chops

We just ate at McKendrick's this weekend and its really a solid all around steak experience. Everything exceeds your expectations!
(Chop's usually let's me down so often, I've stopped going~ but recommend you try Lobster Bar sometime.)
Besides Bone's and McKendrick's you must try Hal's on Old Ivy. Place is a bit wilder, steaks are more tender and the wait is forever with a reservation, but worth it!

LA next week with kids, where to eat good?

Paprkutr,
Love your bottom line approach and might just print your thread, take it with me and be done trying when the kids could probably care less! (Oh the problems of being a foodie!)
Must back up, we are from Atlanta, oops for not mentioning earlier.
Think I can start to put down some sure things:
1. Original Farmer's Market (I'm the most excited about this one!)
2. In-N-Out (good news is DH will pull over as we leave LAX so won't be a destination spot)
3. Carney's
4. Parks BBQ
5. Spago's? (will have to wait to hear from iOnLa and others if this is best bet)
6. Pizzeria Mozza

Couple of maybe's~
1. Hirozen (we all love sushi except for my boy, will try to push him)
2. Griddle Cafe or House of Blues? (Haven't been to a gospel brunch with kids, hmmm?)
3. A day in Malibu

We will be at CBS Studio Wednesday & Thursday right before dinner time, any of these yummy suggestions close by? Anything near CBS Studio I should know about?
Thanks for your help already CH in LA, y'all really help!

LA next week with kids, where to eat good?

iOnLa,
So glad you mentioned Spago's. Was a little afraid to ask if its still great after all these years. Gosh, it was such a big deal when it opened and I wish I could tell you I remembered what I had, but I don't, I just know I thought it was THE biggest deal to even get a reservation!
What I do remember is that it was such an LA experience and would love to take the kids there!
Also plan to bike Venice to Santa Monica for a real family afternoon, thanks for suggesting.
As for Malibu, will need a new thread for this day but apprehensive since there aren't restrooms. Not much to do in Malibu as it is, was really hoping for a great food experience. Will look at your suggestions.
Thanks, especially for mentioning Spago's~ is it still dressy?

LA next week with kids, where to eat good?

JudiAU,
Too many fantastic rec's for Original Farmer's Market~ can't wait!
(I told my kids about the farmers market tonight and told them they could choose anything they wanted and my son asked if he could choose legos, ugh!)
Pizzeria Mozza is also a big favorite on CH so we are going there.
Milk over Buttercake Bakery?
Couldn't find a website on La Cienega Kabob House.
Thanks for your help!

Phurstiuv,
You are so right, my children certainly don't need another diner or donut, but if we are passing by those...
I really need to map out where we are sightseeing and plug these fantastic recommendations as we go.

LA next week with kids, where to eat good?

mc michael,
I don't think I can talk my husband into giving up In-N-Out over Fatburger No 115, and I think Carney's is going to be a hit with the family, and that's about all the burgers I can stand in a couple of days, but thanks.
Griddle Cafe sounds great for breakfast. (We have a chicken & waffles here)
101 Coffee Shop, loved Swinger's!

LA next week with kids, where to eat good?

Need some help here wienermobile, checked out Parks BBQ & Pizzeria Mozza and think they are both really cool spots with kids. Doesn't hurt I can order a glass of wine! Adding both to my list.
As for Fogo De Chao, we have one in Atlanta so skipping this spot.
Onto Lawry's, if we are to have at least 1 fine dining experience with the kids, is this THE one or just a finer dining option open to kids? Really need some help here, and its not like we have to go out to eat very fancy, but mom and dad wouldn't mind either.

Monku & wienermobile, I love a farmer's market anyways, and one with lots of neat spots to grab a bite that the kids will enjoy, with something for everyone- sounds perfect for us, thanks!

LA next week with kids, where to eat good?

DH and I are bringing the kids (8&10) to LA next week and need help! Tried to find best restaurants for kids but mostly found kid menu threads.
Need to know what places are the MUST eats in LA, from casual and cheap to fine dining. Include it all; breakfast, lunch, dinner and even best snacks.
We are adventurous, the kids not so much, but just want the whole LA experience. Basically looking for fantastic memories AND meals!
(Staying at Sunset Marquis on Sunset Blvd, but have a car.)
Thanks CH'ers, can't wait!

Long weekend in San Francisco & Napa, any suggestions?

Checked out the website, and think we have a winner for lunch! Thinking we can pick up our sandwiches for our drive to Napa. What a fabulous menu, how will we choose? If there is a favorite, please share!
Must confess that the best sandwich spot we've ever eaten is Mother's in New Orleans back before it became a tourist spot. Looking forward to the competition.

Haven't tried Burmese- sounds like an interesting lunch.
2nd recommendation for Scala's. Nopa sounds great too. Should I choose them over Flour + Water?
Thanks for the suggestions!

Long weekend in San Francisco & Napa, any suggestions?

Arriving in October for a concert in Napa and meeting up with 2 other couples. My husband and I are flying in a night early for a quick stop in San Francisco before heading to Napa. Our hotel is in Union Square and we arrive SFO at 9:30 pm. Most of the restaurants I wanted for dinner aren't serving past 10 pm (Boulevard, Quince, Gary Danko) so I need a recommendation for a great late night bite. Not as concerned with the place as we are with the food, and a close cab ride from our hotel. So far, thinking Flour + Water. Looked at Zuni but its only open until 11 on Thursday, no good for us. Is there a better choice?
Next morning we want to walk and walk, and eat something great, but not fussy, for lunch. Just good food! We typically like anything so whatever your favorite recommendations for lunch. Sushi, street food, seafood, chinese- doesn't matter.
Rest of the weekend we are so lucky to go to an amazing concert 1 day and great wineries the next, with dinners at Bottega and Morimotto & a Sunday brunch at Bouchon's.
Just want our 24 hours in San Francisco to be great!
Thanks!
