Eating at the Atlantis Paradise Island

if you enjoy wine with your meals i would recommend against. although its been a good 5-6 years since i've been there i do recall pricing on wine as being shockingly high. we would always take a cab out to dinner and use it as an opportunity to escape the resort.

St Barts for a week

headed down there in april as well. it has been a few years but i would say wallhouse for dinner instead of lunch. it is without a doubt my favorite restaurant of anywhere. wishing well is a great lunch and l'esprit saline good for dinner. understand that its pricey in st barth and you may wish to go to rotisserie in st. jean and pick up a baguette some salads, cheese and a bottle of wine and just head back to your domicile for a homey lunch or dinner for a break either for lunch or dinner.
i cannot recommend le gaic. very $$$$ and not worth it. do brasil is very cool.

Rowayton Seafood Restaurant is comfortable shoes

steve i do drink but just not at lunch which represents the only times i've been to rs. i generally have fried clams or oysters and i'm usually happy enough. if clean oil is not used then i'm disappointed but i have not found that to be the case at rs. i would however, love to find a place in fairfield county where the fried clams or oysters are big and fat and lightly fried. just can't seem to find that type of spot and therefore have to keep my cravings in check until i get to pj's in wellfleet.

Shipping a wine collection

duck833's suggestion is realistic enough depending on weather conditions and time of the year. if however there are pieces in you collection of special value then western carriers is the way to go. i think you may also want to keep in mind the age of the wines you're shipping. if you're sitting on wines that are over 50 years old, i would a.) drink them, b.) sell them or c.) drive them myself.

i can't use stew leonard's and wine in the same sentence. stew is trying to get by with purchasing bulk wine and re-labeling it with a made up name. woe to the stew employee who dares not to push this swill as they are shown the door very quickly. the consumer is catching on though and rumor has it stew is beginning to feel the pain.

as scotty points out, the wines mentioned were popular brands. if one were to peruse the imported wines most likely some value could be found. most restaurants count on customers having limited wine knowledge and turning immediately to the calif wine section and looking for a familiar brand, whereupon the knife goes right between the old shoulderblades.

good for you foleyd7 as this is one of my pet peeves as well. while i've only been to rowayton seafood for lunch and hence no vino, i respect your position. luca's in wilton is another prime offender in this category and therefore i won't set foot in the place.

Where to take a 3 year old for dinner??

just pick a place where your niece is going to have fun. sure some kids have personalities better suited for more adult styled restaurants but what you're trying to do is create a fun evening for both of you, not test her behavioral limits. all kids like pasta. find a place with tableclothes and napkins so she can play grown up and order her a bowl of pasta. if she doesn't like tomato sauce be prepared to order it with butter only.

luca and massimo both eminated from maria's in norwalk and each went on to open their own locale. luca's food is better but his prices are too high and what he charges on his wine list is flat out unjust. massimo is a big fellow with a big personality and i like him. i find his prices fair but his food and wine quality not to the standard he kept when he was at maria's.
when restauranteurs simply hand their winelist over to a salesperson to put together all they're going to wind up with is whatever the salesman's supervisor told him to sell. its why there is such competition among the salespeople to convince the restaurant to let them manage the list.

New Korean BBQ in Stamford: Egane

i was at edo a few months ago. food was good and reasonably priced. its one of those places where they go the extra step to make certain everyone is accomodated. they even brought us a few dishes complementary. its a good family place so you can bring the kids if you wish.

nice list although it should be noted that aloi is piedmontese not tuscan. as far as valbella goes, snooty or not it just isn't very good and aren't they closed from a fire anyway?

i second (third actually) the assessment. great place and one could lose their mind trying to decide from among their delicacies. heard a new ice cream place opened around the corner that has been pulling in people too.

stores that cater to high end clientele wouldn't be listing there. too concerned about attracting just the sort of imbiber you described.

Wine Fest

don't bother. nobody really enjoys themselves. the vendors are only there because if they don't show up mohegan throws their stuff off the wine list. so you have people serving you who don't want to be there combined with the fact that most people don't understand wine tastings, getting them monumentally confused with "wine drinkings" so they all wind up tanked then go gamble and lose their money.

question about Italian sandwiches for fairfield county

i am a huge a&s guy. love them to death, especially their sausages. their italian hero is very good but not full sized italian bread, although i'm sure albert would gladly oblige.

Smokey Joe's on Darien/Stamford border closing?

yes louuuuu, wouldn't it be great to be able to enjoy a plate of whole belly fried clams, fried in clean oil so they were golden colored and a cold beer (or iced tea for jfood). why is it that one must wait for a trip to cape cod to find something so simply made.

question about Italian sandwiches for fairfield county

where would one go for an old fashioned italian hero (sub, grinder, wedge, etc.)? i'm talking really fresh coldcuts and freshly baked italian bread. i'm talking the whole magilla, not any 1/2 loaf pretender. not sure that i would be eating one any time soon but there is always the chance i could lose my mind and then have full license to enjoy one.

Where to eat inexpensively for lunch in New Canaan

last time i stopped in chef l. he had a different $10 lunch for each day of the week. not sure if that is still in effect. apparently he was planning a similar themed evening menu though i'm sure for more than $10. :-)

Quattro Pazzi coming to Downtown Stamford

anytime i see anything voted best of anything in an open poll i automatically assume the ballot box has been stuffed. this goes for restaurants, bars, and any other establishment gastronomical or otherwise. qp is decent enough, but best? not by a longshot.
