SD: Your Hidden Gem
Just discovered KnB Wine Cellars in Del Cerro. Surprised to find that San Diego Union Trib wrote about it. Good food and wine. Friendly service.
Phx: Sol y Sambra
Just read that Sol y Sombra is closing. Thoughts and comments appreciated.
Trader Joe's culture
Good point, blue socks. I think of the consumer can try to just focus on the quality of the products, and reasonable prices, life is good. Also, despite the negative (strange) comments about the customer service, I find the employees to be helpful and happy. I'll take Trader Joe's over the miserable Albertson's or even Whole Foods, any day.
Any Other Jack-in-the-Box Lovers Out There?
kjen and Phursluv: you just described my two weaknesses, jalapeno poppers and chicken fajita pita. Their poppers are a decadent cheese bomb that go down way too easily.
I remember in the 80s, after the ecoli burger-death scare, this chain was stigmatized. Then something happened; in the early 2000s, they created kitschy, talked-about commercials, and stepped-up the quality of their food, along with the service. Viva la Jack-in-the-Box.
Scottsdale: Humble Pie!
Went to Humble Pie for lunch the other day and left very satisfied. The Margherita pizza was delicious and we also loved the appetizers. Service was prompt and friendly. Will definitely be back.
Any Other Jack-in-the-Box Lovers Out There?
Can't argue with your points. Admittedly, I patronize JitB approximately 3-4 times a month. I am not, nor have I ever been, overweight. In fact, I consider myself to be in pretty darn good shape and health. I just can't seem to get past my craving for this place.
Any Other Jack-in-the-Box Lovers Out There?
Surely I can't be the only one who loves this place. Granted, I haven't had a burger at JitB in several years, but I find many of their other menu items to be fantastic.
After frequenting god-knows-how-many other chains, I find myself coming back to JitB based on a few constants: excellent (make that pretty damn good) customer service, tasty chicken, a frequent rotation of new desserts, and delicious small bites (i.e., fries, chicken tenders, jalapeno poppers).
My SO thinks I'm crazy for being such a regular customer. Any other chowhounds who find themselves oddly drawn to this joint?
If it has to be a chain, it has to be...
Rubio's has these delicious portobello and serrano chile tacos that are quite addictive. I find that for the price, convenience, and quality, Rubio's is one of the best chain restaurants in Phoenix.
Are there "tourist trap" restaurants in Phoenix?
Macayo's may be a tourist trap, but it's also patronized by long-time Phoenix locals. Ditto for Valle Luna. I don't pretend to claim that either one has particularly good food but I do like Macayo's burritos, cheese crisps, and margaritas.
Riazzi's? Or other recs in Tempe
I second Hohokam's rec for Caffe Boa. I've been going there for almost a decade now, and have never been disappointed. They have a delicious selection of pastas, salads, seafood, and steak.
Also, there's a new pizza place and wine bar on Mill Ave. Forgot the name.
I would skip Riazzi's. It's nothing special.
