Cocktails near La Canada
Hello,
Has anyone had real, proper, old-fashioned cocktails in any bar or restaurant near La Canada? ( That would mean including Glendale and Pasadena). I mean the kind of truly great; fresh ingredients; Maker's Mark in the well; more than one brand of Bitters; if it has juice, it's fresh-squeezed; serious cocktails that a bon-vivant from the 40's would enjoy. This kind of "mixology" resurgence seems to be popping up in all the trendy areas. What about the La Canada backwater?
thanks

Mike & Anne's So. Pasadena
Went Sat. night. Had a nice double/triple-retail Tempranillo from the small but excellent list.
Food ranged from good to superb. Tapenade was on the sweet side, very nicely done. Ricotta squash blossoms were fine, a bit plain, but still a pleasure to consume. Heirloom tomatos were excellent home-garden quality and had a very tasty but overpowering dressing, too much for such delicate flavors. Flatiron steak with a teriaki-type sauce was tender and rare as ordered. Very good mashed spuds and shitake strips. All delicious, hit it's mark. Arcorn squash ravioli was a revelation; the only spine-tingler of the night, but worth the visit. Pasta seemed more like very thin Asian eggroll dough than Italian, all to the good. Sauce was citrus-Asian, slaps upside the the head with it's drama and pleasure. Long beans rolled into a cup with frisse inside was plain, but right eaten with the dramatic ravioli. Wasn't going to order it at first (thought it was going to be "squash ravioli"), but the waitress saved me from myself. Best moderate-priced food in Pas. since Bistro K., from what I've found.
Who's not closed the 4th Pasadena
Hello,
Looking for the best possible cooking within 20 minutes of Pasadena on the 4th, and everyone's closed. Any ideas. My idea of perfect was Bistro K--smart cooking and byob. At this point I'll take even decent cooking.
thanks
