Charleston, SC - fine dining for birthday

FIG is wonderful, the chef just one Best Chef Southeast at the James Beards this year. Peninsula Grlll is great as well. McCrady's is a beautiful restaurant, but I thought the food was a little underwhelming. FIG is my current favorite, but if you want more traditional southern food, I would go with Peninsula Grill, SNOB, or Anson (very traditional).

"Artisan" bread in Charleston SC?

I agree. Normandy Farms. They used to be downtown if that counts for anything!

Looking for good eats in Columbia SC

I would go with Motor Supply Co. Good food and the menu changes daily. As you might have guessed, its in an old Motor Supply Co building. Also, Gervais & Vine has good fun wine and tapas. Hope you enjoy!

Best BBQ near Charleston

Melvin's is the fast food of BBQ. Sticky Fingers is a chain. Home Team is delicious but on its way to being a chain. Go to JB's. I lived on Seabrook for while and loved going there. In fact, I would drive out there from downtown when I lived there as well. Crazy nice people and crazy good food. Mmmmm.
