Rib Room

Great to hear. I have high hopes for him at the RIb Room. We were regulars at Rene Bistrot at the Pere Marquette back before the storm and spent every New Year's Eve there for several years as well. Love the Chef and love his cooking. The Poulet Grandmere was one he did at the Bistrot; he also makes some fantastic Merguez sausage that he used to pull out from time to time and does his own pates, etc. His brunches were killer. What a way to spend a Sunday!

We moved to Nashville in '07 but have kept up with him ever since. Can't wait to get back home over the holidays and try out the Rib Room!

Spending $443.48 on Dinner at Whole Foods

It's probably because the Whole Foods CEO opposed Obamacare and Slate has never forgiven him for that.

First timer in New Orleans at Christmas

You might want to look here too for ideas:

Click on "Christmas New Orleans Style". .

French Quarter Festivals Inc keeps a good list of sponsored events for Christmas and is always worth keeping an eye on. Don't miss walking through the (formerly Fairmont) Roosevelt. Don't miss the Reveillon Dinners.

And what's wrong with Gambino's pray tell?

We get a lot of King Cakes from Antoine's and have always been pleased.

top dive bars in new orleans

That's a great story. Those open doors can be a blessing and a curse. One time we were in there about 3 in the afternoon and a young man, obviously high on something and with a grudge, ran in the place, picked up one of those table candles in the glass jars they have or had and whipped it as hard as he could at the bartender, who proceeded to grab a baseball bat from behind the bar and chase the guy down the street. The 8-10 people in there, us included, just kind of looked at one another, did a big "ho-hum" and went back to drinking. I've seen some weird stuff in that place.

Chef Crozier- Visitation

This was posted by Brett Anderson on NOLA.com:

Visitation for chef Gerard Crozier scheduled for Tuesday

Francois Crozier, son of chef Gerard Crozier, emailed over the weekend to say that a visitation for his father will be held tomorrow, October 6, at St. Pius X School.

The visitation runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a memorial mass at 1 p.m. St. Pius is at 6600 Spanish Fort Blvd.

Crozier, who brought authentic cuisine to New Orleans in the 1970s, passed away unexpectedly last week. He was 63.

The best Chateaubriand in all New Orleans?

I am saddened indeed. He was the best French chef in New Orleans in his time, and arguably the best ever. And Madame was delightful.

Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine,

et lux perpetua luceat eis.

Te decet hymnus Deus, in Sion,

et tibi reddetur votum in Ierusalem.

Exaudi orationem meam;

ad te omnis caro veniet.

Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine,

et lux perpetua luceat eis.

The best Chateaubriand in all New Orleans?

All of which makes me think you missed it by about three years. Gerard Crozier's place of the same name up on Carrolton was totally, totally awesome. Apparently he's now running a print and mail place in Chattanooga. Guess 10-12 feet of water will do that to you.It was a super, super steakhouse whose life was much too short.

A pity.

Emeril's NOLA or Emeril's New Orleans- Which is better?

I'm voting for the flagship, although there's nothing wrong with NOLA. I'd have to disagree with the characterization of the Tchoup location as "touristy". it's just a big old loud busy place. I still think if you want to know what he was before he became "Emeril", it's the closest you can get.

Great Oyster Dive in New Orleans?

Then he can eat shrimp. His post is entitled "Great Oyster Dive in New Olreans". Cooter's fits that description as well as any of the others.

Second Cooter's as I'm smacking myself in the forehead. That's probably the archetype for what the poster was requesting. Great recommendation!

Great Oyster Dive in New Orleans?

Bozo's is a classic, probably more so when it was in the original location, but the suburban version works pretty well.

BACCO Restaurant Review

Same here, for what it's worth. We limit our trips there to lunch, which seems to fare a little better from the service end of things. Last couple of special dinners we went for showed staff sort of aimlessly milling about and no appreciable order to the whole thing we could see.

Dinner tonite: how's Cuvee these days?

Cuvee, believe it or not, was one restaurant we always took out of town guests to when they came to visit. I haven;'t been in over a year, but when we lived in NOLA, it as one of our favorites. Get the foie gras three ways for an appetizer.
