168 Sushi, Vaughan location

I second Yoshiko!!! It's really, really good.

Bathurst St Deli - recently opened in Richmond Hill

Only went once. Though we had good service, the food left me unimpressed.

Bier Market (king st) vs Beer Bistro vs Other

BTW, it seems I went to Volo on a Sunday when the kitchen wasn't fully operating. Based on my quick search through their blog, there is a regular menu the rest of the week: http://blog.barvolo.com/food

Yoshiko Sushi

I have been to Yoshiko 6 times in the last two months. It has been deliciously consistent.

The staff is so friendly, the service is great, and the food is awesome. Their sushi chef is a rockstar. I have only seen the same one guy making the sushi, but he's young and so fast with sending out orders - and each roll is perfect. I love this place and hope more people check it out.

Bier Market (king st) vs Beer Bistro vs Other

Just wanted to add that I was at Volo recently and they didn't have a food menu! So call ahead to find out if they're even offering food, as they told us they're shifting their focus and they only had a very limited "food" menu while we were there. Think: cheese plates, olives and bread.

Having been to all three, for good beer, all are great, but Volo and BeerBistro are awesome. For food, BeerBistro wins easily. BB has a nice bar/lounge area that can fit a big group on a first come basis - dining area needs a reservation. Volo has a lot of room for a big party but no food. Bier Markt is loud, food is just okay, but can accomodate big groups.

Harbord Room - mixed experience

I had a disappointing dining experience over the weekend.

While I truly enjoyed the atmosphere, the food left something to be desired.

The service started out great. The server was very attentive at first but then as soon as the meals came, he came back only once after someone else had taken away our plates(when we were finished) to drop down the dessert menus on the table.

Had he, or anyone, come to check on the food I would have told him that the ribeye steak I ordered medium rare was overcooked, and the side order of spinach was so terribly lemony I found it inedible. The steak was nothing special, and I was disappointed in how they overcooked it and how the server never returned. At that point, I was also too hungry to have waited for them to make me a new steak! The spinach was really bad. My poor date ate most of it, but it tasted as though it had been drenched in lemon juice and was marinating in it for days. Don't try the spinach if you don't like the most lemony spinach you've ever had. Or the ribeye - ordering the steak frites is probably the better choice. We did order a side order of fries and thank god, it was the only redeeming part of my meal. The ketchup grew on me and I really enjoyed the fries. My date had the venison which was good... but we experienced burger envy. It seems the only decent dish to order there is the burgers, based on reviews and based on the people sitting near us eating them. But it's likely we won't be returning to try them out.

Disappointing.

What did you have there that you liked?

Any restaurant in the GTA serving authentic Russian food?

While these recommendations are all good (I really enjoy Paka Paka), I wouldn't call these Russian restaurants - I'd say that these are more middle eastern style which I wouldn't necessarily label as Russian, while I will admit a huge Russian population in the GTA eat at these restaurants (including my dad) and there is an influence.

If you're looking for some specific Russian-style food, there's Melody Restaurant (http://www.restaurant-melody.com/index.php) which is on Centre St. between Bathurst and Dufferin, in Thornhill.

Also,
I found this list of Russian places in Ontario, enjoy!

Longo's at Bathurst and Rutherford

I passed by the other day. The place looks beautiful, and they look to have a great parking structure. I'll definitely have to go check it out soon.

Yonge/Bloor Tonight?

Right nearby on Hayden St is Focaccia. I went there for Summerlicious and thought the food was great. Great service as well!

Seeking a good restaurant with a big round booth or table for 8 people

I know this is a weird request, but I'm looking for a decent restaurant in the Toronto area (or York Region) that also happens to have a round booth or round half booth or round table that can fit about 8 people. I like it round so that no one is left out!

Anyways, a place with a good veggie option (like pasta) would be nice, as two of the guests are vegetarians, but I am not looking for a vegetarian place.

Also, a bit upscale is also plus. As well, trying to stay away from Chinese.

Any suggestions? Open to anything.

Thanks!

ISO Toronto's Best Tuna Sandwich

What do you say, gang?

I'm a fan of tuna sandwiches. I rather like them from Michel's Baguette when I manage to make it over to Yorkdale, and United Bakers has good tuna too, but I'd like some other recommendations. So, what do you got? Who makes the best tuna?

For reference, I live in Thornhill (Bathurst and Steeles area) but will travel for the best tuna sandwich ever.

Pizza and Wings from one resto or chain?

Honestly, I really enjoy Pizza Pizza's crispy wings. They are quite good imo. Everyone I've told to try them has liked them.

PP has a good deal on right now, for 19.99 a large pizza with three toppings and a dipping sauce, ten wings and a dipping sauce, and 4 cans of pop.

Pam for Baking, anybody seen it lately?

I found a full shelf of Pam at the No Frills at Centerpoint mall (Yonge & Steeles) yesterday.

Holy trinity of AYCE sushi in Thornhill

That sucks! I ate there all of last winter and never encountered anything like this.

I am very particular where I sit in restaurants though and never sit near the door. I usually ask to be away from the door.

I was just there this evening for dinner. I didn't feel a draft.

It's my favourite sushi of all the places I've tried.

Downtown wings that can be delivered

Swiss Chalet actually makes pretty decent wings. I brought them to a party once and everyone liked them a lot. Most importantly, they deliver! I'm not sure about the price. I believe each order has 8 wings, though.

Help - need simple good birthday cake in Toronto

I also wanted to agree that the cakes at the Loblaws/Superstore bakeries are usually really good too. They have some really nice chocolate ones.

And LaRocca is to die for.

ISO decent Indian resto north of 401 (aka Save me from Montana’s)

I pass by that place all the time and have always wondered about it. Has anyone tried Earth Indian?

ISO decent Indian resto north of 401 (aka Save me from Montana’s)

Well, I don't know if this is in the right area... but my favourite Indian place is near Bathurst and 7, right across from the promenade mall.

It's called Nawab and I always really enjoy it.

Help - need simple good birthday cake in Toronto

Yeah, I agree about Sobey's. I personally don't find them anything special, but if you just need a good plain cake, Sobey's good for that. My mom loves Sobey's cake.

Best Ethiopian?

Well, I tried it. I now know that Ethiopian is definitely not for me. We got the veg platter. The bread was so spongey I didn't enjoy it at all. Same for the platter. Ah well, now I know.

DIM SUM on carts - Markham/Richmond Hill - where to go?

Yeah, I third Lao Lee Beef Seafood Restaurant (formerly Furama). Very delish. The food is always good and the staff there are very plesant. Great prices.

Eaton Centre Food Court

Of these, I think the following will have adequate veggie options at a reasonable price...

Richtree Market Restaurant
Cultures
Subway
Edo Japan

Sushi-Q
Freshii

Does AYCE Dim Sum exist?

I have been told by someone that there is a restaurant somewhere on Bloor that has all you can eat Dim Sum on Sundays.

Does anyone know if this is true, or if there is somewhere that has it they would recommend?

Thanks.

Sudden Inexplicable Craving for a Banana Split

Yup, beyond the counter there's a little seating area.

Dutch Dreams is totally delicious. I loved the ice cream there and the banana split was honestly one of the most awesome things I've had. Enjoy.

Uncle Ray's Potato Chips in Toronto?

I've tried the Blair's Death Rain chips in Buffalo Wings (which was hot, but I could still handle it with a glass of milk in hand), and XXX Habanero where my tongue nearly lost all functional ability for a day. I would never try the XXX again out of fear for my life. With that said, my boyfriend really liked them though.

I saw them available at Bulk Barn for about 3 something bucks a full-size bag.

Puk N' Wings - old Cluck Grunt Low location

I frequent the Puck'N Wings in North York right by Finch station and it's a really great place. It's a hockey themed restaurant with a selection of Wayne Gretzky wines to choose from (I've never tried them). The wings are probably some of the best wings I've ever had (great flavours: Butter Chicken, Curry+Madras, Buffalo Wing, Balsamic Fig, Satay, Dragon). The wings are a tad expensive but worth it - oh my are they ever worth it.

Also, try the hamburger. Oh, and the curly fries... I love their curly fries.

Alternatively, they also have a great salad menu. My fave is the Asian Sesame Chicken one. It's never disappointed.

Hope you guys enjoy it! :D
