Food (not drinks) that help ease a headache?

Remember Streisand and Redford in The Way We Were?

Hubbell: You have any aspirin?
Katie: Oh, I don't. Push in on your temples.
Hubbell: How can you not have aspirin?
Katie: I always eat for a headache.

Is there ANY authentic Mexican/Tex-Mex in Bethesda or Rockville?

I know, but the yelpers give their wings high marks. I didn't try them. Yet. I guess don't knock 'em 'til you've tried 'em.

When I discovered that they don't serve Horchata, even canned, I realized it isn't like the Mexican / Salvadoran places here. The lunch crowd... and they got a pretty good crowd going by 12:20... is mostly hispanic guys.

Is there ANY authentic Mexican/Tex-Mex in Bethesda or Rockville?

The other day we tried Jazmin Cuisine (out by the Gaithersburg airport) in search of Tex-Mex and they do a great job with fresh ingredients. You can get anything Chipotle serves but the meat is grilled fresh as you order. And I prefer to give my money to family businesses.

They also serve a nice breakfast menu.

costco stores sell liquor in maryland?

Some counties just don't want you to buy liquor. I stock up on booze when I go to NJ rather than pay the MoCo taxes.

Salt Lake City has armed police officers in the Alcohol Beverage Control stores, which are open from 10am to 5pm. Talk about a sobering experience.

Cute Food-related Merchandise -- HUMOR

I got my newborn niece a onesie with the "Dingo Snack" label.

Great new innovation making chicken broth!

Actually I'm going to skip this whole step and just use that new product, Swanson Flavor Boost concentrated broth.

Great new innovation making chicken broth!

Well, that's the thing. You pull off the chicken meat while it still has some flavor.

Flavor extraction happens quickly on the surface of meat, so to increase the surface area of the chicken and speed up the rate at which the flavor is extracted, use store-bought ground chicken. It gives up its flavor so readily after sauteeing with aromatics that, in about an hour, you get an intense, golden, chicken-y stock.

Moving to Pentagon City-a summary, please

What is it with all the Italian restaurants right there on that block? There must be five places within that one block...

Drive another 10 minutes south to Del Ray. Explore.

Shortbread Placecards

You can buy edible ink cartridges for your laser printer and edible potato wafer paper, and bake the names right onto the cookies.

Instead of a cookie, it could be a amuse-bouche or vol-au-vent.

Great new innovation making chicken broth!

America's Test Kitchen had a formula where you use one chicken (remove the meat after cooking through) and one pound of ground chicken (thrown away at the end).

What to add to fish tacos?

Moa in Rockville?

Sounds great. I've only had Korean a handful of times, and am still a little intimidated by kim chi. Looking forward to it.

need some inspired, healthy cauliflower ideas, beyond cauliflower cheese, roasted cauliflower and aloo gobi...

I had a South African friend who made a really nice African Spiced Vegetable Salad with cauliflower, carrots, red pepper and corn. I found something with ginger, cumin, coriander, nutmeg and salt.

I also like the sound of a Curried Sweet Potatoes, Cauliflower with Green Beans

Help using Knorr concentrated chicken stock?

I keep seeing ads for the Swanson Flavor Boost concentrated stock. There are many situations where it would come in handy. The powdered boullion is too gritty and a hassle to prepare. Sometimes adding stock makes a dish too watery.

Marci's Dog House

Ack! Well, on the bright side, it should be easier to get a tee time now.

Marci's Dog House

What a weird location... it must be inside a commercial building? It thought it was all residential there.

Foods you dread making because they’re time-consuming

I find that if something takes a long time to prepare... browning, stirring, reducing, etc. I completely lose my appetite so that by the time it is done I don't want to eat it. Great diet technique.

Oh Shit, Kashi!

Turns out Kashi is now no longer Natural nor Organic.

The Green Grocer in Porthsmouth, RI, has posted a sign and posted a photo of the sign to their Facebook page.

Their sign reads: “You might be wondering where your favorite Kashi cereals have gone. It has recently come to our attention that 100% of the soy used in Kashi is Genetically Modified and that when the USDA tested the grains used there were found to be pesticides that are known carcinogens and hormone disruptors.”

and their Facebook page has lit up, as has Kashi's and Kellogg's.

Birthday cakes for the opposite of a crowd

I really like the idea of a miniature layer cake. How about a large coffee can, larger than the Progresso soup can above, but still smaller than a cake pan.

Birthday party idea around food?

I started a thread in the Mad Men thread of TelevisionWithoutPity.com where we planned cannapes and cocktails for each viewing in the first season.

We came up with some pretty fun menus.

Birthday party idea around food?

Call Jeff Neely at the GSA for party planning, I'll bet he has some thiinking outside the box ideas.

'Hound-worthy chow recs for a 4-day trip to DC, near Mt Vernon Square?

I was just asking VaPaula today about Louisiana cuisine in the metro area and now I see Acadiana is located right across from your hotel. Has anyone been there? Pretty good marks from yelpers and they are open for lunch.

Birthday party idea around food?

A lot of people like hiring a hall that serves the food, but I'd prefer separating the two. Find a venue and find a caterer. On Friday night I ate at a charity event held at the Women's Club in Washington Grove near Gaithersburg, which probably seats 30 people and has a small kitchen for food prep.

4 days at Inner Harbour

I'd eat at Mr. Rains only if you are already set on taking in the American Visionary Museum, but you have to realize it is an oddball assortment of found object art and non-mainstream crafts.

CHOWDOWNS in metro area

It was great to meet you all and to see other CHs. Although 66 was a disappointment, I generally don't mind driving 35 minutes for one of these events, just shooting down 270 and 495. But I do find intimidating the idea of taking metro into the district. Yes, I've taken trains into NYC, Boston, Chicago, and Miami, but once I get there I feel terribly unanchored trying to make my way around with subways, elevated trains, buses, zipcars, trams, jitneys, and taxis. I'm a suburbanite.

Need Dinner Recommendations for Bethesda Area

You're from Boston so you certainly already have an opinion on Legal Seafood, but there's one right there in the Westfield Montgomery Mall.

Palm Beach for the Weekend

You'll want to slow down, relax, and spend your time at the beach instead of running around Lake Worth. You can get authentic deli in Brooklyn, so you don't need to cross the Intracoastal to go to TooJays for the same. The Atlantic Bar at the hotel has a great view of the ocean, as does Ocean Bistro. The atmosphere is beautiful, just relax and sit outside and take in the warm breeze off the water. "The Restaurant" gets high marks for dinner, too.

If you feel like rubbing elbows with the people of West Palm Beach, and you have a car, I'd recommend tacos al pastor at Taqueria Guerrero & Tortilleria on Dixie Highway.
